Zuko lay awake in Sokka’s bed, listening to the steady breathing of the man lying asleep next to him. He allowed himself to be greedy, sliding himself under Sokka’s arm and feeling it shift to tighten around his torso.
It had been a few months since that heavenly night when Sokka swore to humble him with the absolute weapon between his legs.
No humbling happened, Zuko was just as sour and closed off after Sokka took him apart in the dead of night as he was before.
The only difference? Now he had Sokka’s number in his phone and a line of short messages leading back for the past four months. Evidence of late-night hookups after long weeks at work. The messages suggested no warmth between them, just quick “Are you free tonight at 7?”. “Yes, see you there.” They sounded hollow, like the scraps of release Zuko had been surviving off through the occasional fling after a night out where he got too drunk. The scraps he’d been living off since breaking up with Mai after realising his sexuality in his late teenage years.
But these were so different from a Friday night fling with a stranger from the club.- Language:

“Yeah, you’re right,” Jet bit back, no hesitation. “Didn’t even know your fucking name. Had to learn that from someone else. You know, I liked you, man. I –”
He cut himself off before that thought had time to flower, and he glared at the floor, shaking his head. He wasn’t going to give him that satisfaction. As much as he didn’t want to admit it, it stung. So, he left it just like it was, hanging there in the air.
It seemed to have zapped the energy from Zuko, at least, stunned silent. His gaze fell to the floor, ashamed, and… blushing? And Jet tried to pretend that didn’t make him feel anything at all.
Summary: Jet survived in Ba Sing Se. On his way to reunite with his gang and join the Avatar, he is forced to contemplate his morality. He is pitted against situations that question his understanding of the humanity of the Fire Nation, including the uncertain acquisition of an orphaned Fire Nation baby, as well as being forced to accompany none other than the Prince of the Fire Nation himself.

He looked sideways without thinking and found himself unable to turn away, transfixed. Zuko was loosening the scarf, pulling it down over his nose, his mouth. Jet felt something kick him in the gut. The drinks arrived. Jet didn't turn away fast enough, and for a split second their eyes met as Zuko caught him staring. He slid Jet's beer across the bar without comment.
Jet smiled curtly, as they clinked their glasses and made sure he got at least half of it down in the first swig.
