    Envy has anger and sadness piled up in his emotions. But it wasn't his fault. He never asked to be born as a Homunculus, and certainly didn't ask to be Envy out of all of them.
    After months of the Homunculi and military being at war, Edward and Mustang eventually realize why Envy acts the way he does. He acts out of hurt and being controlled by the creature they called Father, not malice.
