    Summary

The door opens slowly—then all at once, like a curtain finally pulled aside, warm light spilling into the night.

Lestat stands there with a bottle of wine loose in one hand, the other tangled in the sleeve of a white satin robe that slips and pools around him as if it can’t decide whether to cling or fall away. The fabric catches the low light from inside the house, soft and luminous, trailing just behind him when he shifts.

His hair has come loose from whatever restraint he’d bothered with earlier, pale and disordered, falling around his face like a veil. His eyes—too blue, too bright even now—are glassed over, rimmed red, tears gathered and waiting. There’s something almost angelic about him in his grief, the kind that looks breathtaking when caught in the muted glow of a shadowed doorway.

    “Tell me,” Lestat whispers.

Louis feels it in his chest before he hears it—the naked need beneath the softness.

“Louis,” Lestat breathes again, voice cracking. “Tell me it’s not true.”

OR: Private investigator Louis is hired by his client—and former one-night stand—Lestat to investigate an alleged affair, only to uncover a far more elaborate secret.

"Do you think you'd lose something, sweet man? That I'd be taking from you? It's nothing of the sort." Those eyes, blue like nothing in nature, vivid and glinting and fixed on him and him alone. "When you're moving in me, I feel whole, Louis, as I haven't in so long. Entirely whole and adored."

Lestat draws Louis over another line in the sand.

    Summary

From what Louis had told him, Daniel had pictured Lestat as a Frenchman in his late-thirties, pug-faced, maybe a little balding, and permanently red in the face from the burst capillaries that come with too much drinking and smoking. The truth is a bit of a hard punch to his stomach, an uncomfortable tightness in his throat.

Daniel has worked too hard on his relationship with Louis to let some French asshole take his place.
