It’s the way James looks, the way he moves, the way he speaks—so confident. So strong. So utterly unbreakable. No one has ever looked at Regulus the way James does. Like someone who could take it. Regulus’ storms and wildfires, his crashing mood swings and his jagged cliffs. No one has ever looked at him like he’s someone capable of unraveling, and James is just there, curious to see what might spill out.
James looks like he could take anything Regulus throws at him, and so far, he has never disappointed.

“Oh, what’s up, Spidey? Chasing criminals?” Barty muses around the rim of his coffee cup. Like most mornings, he forgoes breakfast entirely, solely relying on stale coffee and Regulus’ half-eaten leftovers for sustenance. James is half-tempted to arrange a collective mourning gathering for his digestive system.
“Yeah, only the criminally hot,” James confirms, eyes ever so glued on Regulus. Naturally, the flirting falls flat between them and is instead crushed by the hardened heel of Regulus’ unimpressed gaze. Next to him, Barty promptly chokes on his drink.
| Or: James is Spider-Man and has been broken up with due to this twice. Third time's a charm, right?
