everyone else can believe baekjin is dead, but Seongje knows he isn't. he's still out there. death is just a convenient excuse. easier than having to face the damage he'd caused, the wreckage he'd left in his wake. a clean break. a swift cutting of the cord.
nothing could tether seongje to baekjin if baekjin was dead. seongje is sure that's how he saw it, how he rationalized it in his mind.
but he was wrong. because dead or alive, seongje was tethered to him. baekjin was like a cord wrapped around his neck, and no matter what he did, he couldn't loosen the hold. Even now, seven years later, seongje is still in his choke hold, still slowly suffocating.
because he knows he's not dead, he's just hiding. because he's weak. too afraid to face this, to face them. too scared to let go of his past, to let go of baku. so he left. everyone and everything behind. but he didn't really leave. not for seongje. because seongje is haunted. haunted by the look in his eyes the last time he saw him.

Hyuntak smirks at that, just a subtle quirk of his lips, but he sees the way Seongje's eyes narrow at the movement. "I knew you'd step in before it got that far."
Seongje shakes his head, biting down harshly on his bottom lip. A second bead of blood pools there and Hyuntak has the urge to lick it up with his tongue. But he can't do that. Not yet. Not when Seongje is still looking at him with murder in his eyes.
"You're fucking sick and twisted," he spits out.
"Takes one to know one," Hyuntak shoots back, grinning.
