“Him?” Lando exclaimed loudly.
“Yes, him, from what I’ve heard he’s excellent with horses and I’m sure he can manage your equipment and armour.”
“But- but he’s a stinking peasant!”

Lando assumes Oscar’s attention is temporary—alphas always move on to younger omegas. Oscar assumes nothing and plans everything. So when someone dares to call Lando “expired,” Oscar makes it quietly, brutally clear “You don’t get to talk about him like that,” he says mildly. “Not if you want to keep standing.”

Lando returns to Bristol after graduating and expects to find his old life still there waiting for him.
And it is, mostly. It's just that Lando can't quite shake the feeling of being a man out of place and out of time, with a million and one expectations for him that are growing increasingly difficult to keep up with.
It's no wonder he can't bear to look himself in the mirror most days.

Norris starts walking again. “To seamen,” Norris says, “the songs are a third of their everything.” A pause. “The songs, the sea, the rum. You see it?”
