At an underground auction, Hubert von Vestra discovers that society's trash is his treasure: his academy rival and self-proclaimed "alpha," Ferdinand von Aegir, entirely his for the buying.
With a stunning wave of the count's arm, the curtains flash apart, revealing a giant, iron birdcage hanging above the stage. Inside is a quivering shape clothed in white silk.
Hair like sunset and eyes just as large and bright. The impudent mouth that has taken residence in Hubert's mind more nights than not.
Hubert's next inhalation is a shudder, equal parts taken aback and enticed.
"No, no, your eyes do not deceive!" the count shouts, his nasal tones lost in devious laughter. "Yes, this omega bitch is none other than the 'late' Ferdinand von Aegir!"

Hubert nearly dropped the bottle.
Hubert develops international food safety and nutritional quality standards, in spite of - not because of - Ferdinand.
