It wasn’t like Scott had never before noticed that Derek was attractive. It was just a lot easier to ignore when he thought Derek was a murderer, or when they were fighting. It was also a lot easier for Scott to ignore when he was dating Allison.
But now, Allison needed space, and Scott was giving it to her. But all of that space he was giving her wasn’t empty space; there were other people in it.

Randolph had interrupted her then and there. Had snapped at her to do something to earn her keep at Garreg Mach instead of gossiping about her superiors. Flustered, apologizing, she had run off to the kitchens. That had been all. Yet the conversation still made Randolph's blood boil to think about.
Hubert von Vestra did not deserve that kind of talk. Never mind that she had praised Randolph in the same breath. If it weren't for Hubert's guidance shortly after the capturing of Garreg Mach five years ago, Randolph doubted he would have headed the monastery this long. Hubert kept this place running as much as Randolph did, Hubert regularly put his life on the line for the emperor, Hubert did the work of 50 men in half the time.
Who was this woman to put looks above deeds? Personally the sight of Hubert did wonders for Randolph but that was far from the point.
