Work Text:

You found yourself situated alone on the couch listening to the rain patter against the window panes and roofs of your house in a moderately-loud rhythm at ten thirty at night. With your lap covered in a blanket, you gazed drearily at the streaks of water on the glass that were illuminated from neighborhood lamp posts and lightning bolts that emerged from afar every now and then, bracing yourself for the thunderous sounds that were yet to come by gripping the soft material of the blanket with a shuddering breath.

Crack!

You were still unable to help your flinching and the goosebumps from forming upon your skin even if the nerve-wracking roars were highly anticipated. Ever since you were young, you were always afraid of the terrifying crackling that emanated from them. The loud cracks of thunder hitting Earth's surface would make your heart race and skin crawl, bringing you discomfort every time. You'd just never grown accustomed to it during unpleasant rainstorms, alone especially.

As your nervousness from the rain and thunder stole most of your attention, you weren't aware that Hazekura Mikitaka, the platinum blonde-haired alien you'd grown comfortable with over time had woken up and discreetly stood in between the wooden door frame of the living room, watching you in concern with a curious head tilt as he was able to perceive your expressions in the dark due to the lamp post lights reflecting across your face. He did not fail to notice the small pout on your lips and the uneasiness in your eyes as you inhaled and exhaled deeply in an attempt to keep your breath steady.

Mikitaka continued to outline and memorize every aspect of your face with quiet eyes. His heart stuttered when your eyes danced nervously to every raindrop across the window pane, when your eyelashes fluttered against your cheeks whenever you blinked lazily when your plump lips parted slightly, and when your fingers would anxiously twirl the ends of your silky hair. His hand unconsciously placed over the skin where his beating heart lay beneath, eyebrows furrowing in uncertainty at the peculiar yet overwhelmingly warm sensation building up in his chest from the sight of you. Was it strange how his heart reacted whenever he'd see or think of you? He wondered if your heart reacted the same way for him.

Momentarily, he knocked on the door frame gently enough to gain your attention but not to startle you.

You turned your head towards the new sound and only met with a charming set of bright pajamas covering the figure's body, smiling at the flying saucers, stars, and moons imprinted on them. Your eyes shifted up towards his alluring sea green orbs and pointed ears as he moved closer to take a seat on the couch next to you, noticing the lack of his nose ring which he must've taken off when he was in bed.

"Hi, Nu," you welcomed him with a soft smile and hushed tone, straightening your posture on the backrest of the couch as his thigh brushed against yours. He returned the smile when you preferred to call him by his given alien name, as it felt more intimate. You pulled the blanket to stretch over his lap so you could share the warmth with him, which he gratefully accepted.

His eyes lingered on the window before bringing his attention back to you again when you asked him a question.

"Nu, how come you're awake?"

"It is so that I had replenished my throat with a glass of water from the kitchen when I had noticed you weren't in your room so I went to search for you," he replied in honesty. "And for you?"

"I can't seem to fall asleep yet, I guess," you answered back, fiddling with your fingers above your lap.

Mikitaka's eyes drifted to the nervously fidgeting hands in your lap, tilting his head like a curious and innocent little puppy. "Is the rain perhaps bothering you?"

"No... It's not the rain, nor lightning," you sighed admittedly. "I'm not overly fond of what follows."

Another deafening crack rippled through the air which caused you to squeak and grasp onto Mikitaka's arm on impact. You apologized in sheer embarrassment, letting go of his arm as he shook his head politely in dismiss reassuring you with a sweet smile. Now he understood what pushed you over the edge. "Well, you've only done so much for me by letting me stay here that I have no choice but to return the favor. It is only fair that you don't face your fear alone."

"As I can transform into nearly anything except complex machinery and powerful objects, I can turn into a pair of noise canceling earplugs for you," Mikitaka kindly offered before turning into the destined object with his shape-shifting ability Earth, Wind, and Fire, having you reach next to you to pick him up delicately as he was now a pair of earplugs.

"Or perhaps a pair of headphones for you to listen to the music of your choice, which may possibly sound a lot more soothing?"

Your expression appeared dumbfounded with your mouth slightly agape in awe, as a faint blush soon grew apparent on your cheeks. You opened your mouth hastily to prevent him from materializing into the next object within your palms as you felt that there was no need.

"No, no," you declined in a gentle manner, still holding the two-century-year-old alien in the palm of your hands. "I don't think any of those will work."

Mikitaka swiftly flew out of your palms as he morphed back onto the couch into his original tall form with his astronomical-patterned pajamas clinging to his skin.

"My sincere apologies." He lowered his head in shame with shut eyes and furrowed eyebrows from your possible disappointment in him. He wanted nothing more but to fill you with contentment as you've had done so much for him, like those times you'd soothe his pain from those loud sirens with temple rubs, hugs, and sweet whispers. "Is there anything you request of me that may be of any help?" He asked in hope of relieving your discomfort.

You felt a pang of regret and guilt as you did not intend to make him upset.

"Just having you here is more than enough, Nu," you admitted sheepishly, looking away and soon finding yourself fascinated with the blanket material. "Can you stay here with me until I fall asleep?" The blush on your cheeks only grew a deeper shade of pink by your request, nervously rushing out your next comment. "I mean, only if you want to, of course."

His gaze raised slowly to yours again, greeting you with the full force of his glimmering hues of green forest. He let out a delightful chuckle where a subtle peach invaded his own cheeks and the top of his uniquely pointed ears. "Of course, I'd be happy to," he graciously accepted your request with happiness radiating off his smile, the same smile that never ceased to make your knees go weak.

He boldly patted his thighs as a signal for you to climb on top of his lap so he can cradle you under the blanket; one of the intimate skin-to-skin acts he picked up from watching movies with Josuke and Okuyasu or how human couples in Morioh would interact with one another.

To his surprise, you timidly sat in his lap with his arms securing your frame as if to protect you from the danger outside, laying your head on his chest with your hand reaching out to interlock his fingers with yours.

Sleepily, you reached your lips to kiss his cheek in tenderness and gratitude which caused his eyes to widen slightly.

He was still trying to grow accustomed to your contrastingly small hands reassuringly holding his larger hands to comfort him at times. How was he supposed to handle your soft lips gently brushing against his skin?

"Thank you, Nu. It means a lot to me that you're here," you whispered with smiling eyes.

Mikitaka couldn't stop smiling as he dreamily looked down at you nuzzling into his embrace, his kiss lingering on your forehead before resting his head against yours. He had never felt this way before for someone, especially for a human being--and frankly, he loved it.

It was as if you put him under your spell that would have him dreaming of conquering the whole entire galaxy with you and only you.

The comforting sounds of his relaxing heartbeat and calm breathing soon drowned out the thunder and left you to drift off to sleep in the safety of his arms without any worries. Mikitaka soon joined you in your sleep with a smile plastered his face for the whole night, dreaming of flying with you in his saucer around his home planet within the Magellanic Clouds.

Maybe the thunder wasn't as bad as you thought anymore.

Notes:

Thank you so much for reading! Don't forget to leave kudos or a comment about what you thought of this if you enjoyed it. I feel as if Mikitaka is lacking recognition so I decided to write one for him because he deserves more love--since Araki didn't show too much of him :')
