Player 2 Admits the Truth

Summary:

Midoriya finally tells his friends he is dating someone.

Work Text:

Shigaraki was rather shocked at the text that he received from Midoriya. The hero in training had texted him in the afternoon with some rather surprising news. Humming to himself, Shigaraki walked pass an annoyed looking Dabi on his way to his room. “What are you so happy about?” Dabi snapped, annoyed that his boss was in such a cheery mood while he was dealing with some of their annoying new members. With the fall of the Shie Hassaikai, the League of Villains had started to get more lower rank villains. This led to many headaches for the fire quirk user which was compounded on by Shigaraki’s cheerful attitude for the day.

“Izuku told his friends that we are dating.” He grinned at Dabi making the other villain cringe. It stuck him odd that it had taken the young hero in training so long to admit that he was dating anyone. It was more shocking that he would admit that he was dating a villain.

“Oh yeah? How do they feel about you dating their precious friend?” Dabi tried to inquire nonchalantly, feeling his mood pick up a bit at the potential of a good story.
Shigaraki leaned back against a nearby crate, facing the other man as they talked.

“He used my old name. I told him that if he ever wanted to tell his friends or family about me to call me Tenko.” Shigaraki smirked as if that had been the best idea that could have ever been conceived. Dabi snorted, shaking his head in disbelief at the other man. “What? I think it is a good idea. It was my name at one point in time after all.”

Dabi shrugged, settling onto a crate of his own, completely forgetting about having to deal with some of the more annoying underlings. It wasn’t too often that the two of them spent time together and without Toga. Said girl was currently off with Mr. Compress trying to dig up more information about Kurogiri’s whereabouts. “No, it’s a good idea. Until someone figures out that Tenko was your name before Tomura Shigaraki.” Dabi pointed out casually. Shigaraki scowled, glaring at the taller man who just kept smirking at him. The sheer cockiness of Dabi was starting to ruin Shigaraki’s mood.

“You always have to think of the negative, don’t you?” He half snarled, understanding the warning the other offered in his casualness. “But no one realized that connection before and they wouldn’t know without knowing some part of my past already. Even then it would take a lot of research.” Dabi had to give it to the other man, it would be hard to make that sort of connection. With the right amount of makeup and even a wig or hair dye he could potentially get away with looking like a completely different person.

Shigaraki raised an eyebrow as he noticed Dabi looking him over thoughtfully. “I trust you know or at least pretend to know what you are doing.” Chuckling, he patted Shigaraki’s shoulder. Shigaraki shrugged off his hand, moving away from the unexpected touch. “If you ever need to meet his parents, we can always pretty you up and no one should be able to recognize you.”

“Pretty me up?” Shigaraki looked oddly confused for a moment before glaring at Dabi. “You asshole.” He grumbled while glaring. No matter how much he glared at Dabi the other villain was completely un-phased by it. “Izuku thinks I’m handsome. I don’t need to be made any prettier than I am.”

Dabi snorted, “Just because Midoriya likes how you look, doesn’t mean that the kid has taste.” He teased, grinning widely at how quickly and easily Shigaraki got upset. Dabi sighed happily, he made a mental not to himself, he would have to remember that tormenting Shigaraki was a good stress relief. Especially after dealing with new members and that damn bird-brained Hero that wanted to become a villain.

“Don’t you dare talk badly about Izuku! I thought you liked him?” Shigaraki was actually kind of confused by this. Dabi could have wept because of how much joy Shigaraki’s confusion was bringing him.

“Oh, don’t you worry. I like Midoriya plenty, it’s just his taste in men that’s kind of questionable.” Shigaraki scowled more as he got up from the crate, shoving Dabi with his shoulder as he passed by. Finally, Dabi couldn’t hold back his amusement, he laughed deeply as Shigaraki continued to walk away from him. Ah yes, he would have to make sure to find the other man the next time he was in a bad mood. If he was lucky, he might find him with Midoriya which could be even more fun.

Midoriya was laying on his bed, smiling at the texts he was receiving from his friends about his boyfriend. Uraraka asked him when they had met and why he had not told her sooner. Iida on the other hand, wanted to know more about Tenko; how responsible he was and where he was going to school. He had also noticed the look of both relief and sadness Uraraka had on her face when he told her about Shigaraki. Whatever she feels she had been battling with during his announcement, she had seemed fine and chipper after lunch. Midoriya tried his best to placate his friends, reassuring them that they had wanted to really get to know each other before announcing their relationship. That seemed to settle some of the less interested parties. Bakugou had only made some snide remark about not really caring that Midoriya had gotten himself a boyfriend.

Although that didn’t stop Bakugou from texting him after class and telling him that if his boyfriend ever hurt him, he would kick their ass and Midoriya’s. Despite his childhood friend not wanting to acknowledge their friendship in public, it was nice to know that Bakugou had his back. Not only about his relationship but with checking in on how his mastery of One for All was going.

The only friend that Midoriya had some concerns about was Todoroki. After announcing that he had a boyfriend the other boy had gone quieter than usual. He still talked with Midoriya but seemed slightly upset. He worried that maybe he had unintentionally ruined their friendship which led to him shooting the other a text to check in. Shortly after sending the text he heard a knock on his door.

“Coming.” Midoriya called, rolling out of his bed and quickly making his way towards the door. Unsurprisingly it was Todoroki that stood awkwardly in his doorway. “Hey Todoroki, wanna come in?” He offered, stepping deeper into his room with the other teen following behind. Todoroki shut the door and they stood facing each other awkwardly in the middle of Midoriya’s room. Not much had changed since they had moved in except for the All Might figurine that Shigaraki had gotten him had a special and prominent spot on his dresser.

Midoriya waited for Todoroki to speak, knowing that the other would when he was ready. It didn’t take too long before he did. “I’m sorry for my behavior today, I just didn’t know how to feel or act.” Todoroki frowned at his own words. “No, I just don’t know how I feel about you hiding the fact that you were dating someone. Not about the fact that you are dating someone. I had thought…” Todoroki trailed off, looking uncomfortable and upset as he struggled to find the right words to say.

“I’m sorry. Tenko and I…” Midoriya hesitated for a brief second, considering how to approach the situation. “I wanted to tell you. We just- “Todoroki cut him off.

“I just thought that you could trust me. To tell me things that you wouldn’t tell the others. I see us as...friends...best friends even.” Todoroki shifted awkwardly, avoiding looking at Midoriya as he spoke. Midoriya was shocked by this revelation. He didn’t expect Todoroki to feel this strongly about their friendship.

“I didn’t…” Midoriya trailed off as he looked at the clearly upset Todoroki. It was close to the truth. Todoroki had really opened up to him recently and confided in Midoriya more. “I’m sorry.” He took a seat on his bed and looked up at the taller teen. The dual quirk user watched Midoriya, the hurt was there but the apology had clearly helped a little. “I didn’t intentionally keep it from you but…” Midoriya debated how truly honest he wanted to be with the other teen.

“Did I do or say something that made you believe that I wouldn’t accept your relationship?” Todoroki softly questioned. Midoriya’s eyes widened in shock at the self-hate on the other teen’s face.

“NO!” Midoriya shouted, leaping up from his bed and grabbing Todoroki’s arms. “Never. It was me. My relationship...Tenko…” Midoriya bit his lower lip before looking at the other teen. “My boyfriend he…” Swallowing thickly Midoriya committed to admitting a half truth. “He doesn’t like Heroes, but he respects that I’m following my dream. Tenko, he sides with villains. Despite that...I love him for who he is outside of that. He’s kind and caring but being a villain supporter, it was hard to get over at first. I didn’t want anyone to judge us for that and with it being such a delicate issue at the beginning of our relationship. We didn’t want to risk ending this because of that judgement. So, we waited until we were really committed before telling anyone.” Midoriya laughed to himself softly.

“I know, dumb right? But I didn’t want anyone telling me I was making a bad decision because he supports villains.” Midoriya admitted. It was the truth...technically. Shigaraki did like and support All for One while Midoriya liked and supported All Might. Despite their differences they did really care for each other.

“I can’t say for sure. I’ve never been in a relationship but thank you.” Todoroki offered the smaller teen a smile. “For sharing that with me. I suppose I shouldn’t have just expected you to tell me everything.” Midoriya’s heart twisted a little. In another life he probably would have fallen in love with this boy.

Midoriya pulled Todoroki into a quick hug. “It’s okay. You are my friend and I should have let you know what was going on with me.” He laughed to himself a little more. “I probably could have used some advice at the start of this relationship. Don’t worry Todoroki, you are my best friend. I promise not to keep anything from you again.” He swore.

Todoroki gave him a squeeze before pulling back. They shared a smile and Midoriya brought up some homework that they had due soon. After that they talked about school and training for a bit before Todoroki decided he needed to get to bed. After he left, Midoriya found himself laying back on his bed, staring up at the ceiling.

Grabbing his phone, he texted Shigaraki, ‘Hey, going to bed. Miss you. Let’s hang out soon. Love you and have a good night.’ Without waiting for a response, he put away his phone and smiled to himself. Yeah, it was good to tell his friends about Shigaraki. Maybe one day he would tell them the real truth but for now, half-truths would have to do.
