Work Text:
Eddie was exhausted. He just came off a 24 hour shift at the station and couldn’t wait to get home to his husband. Christopher was at a sleepover of epic proportions, according to his son, with Denny and Harry at Athena’s, one they were planning for weeks with a Harry Potter movie marathon.
So Eddie couldn’t wait to go home and cuddle with his husband. Evan had a good week so far, his MS was currently stagnating. He didn’t have any new lesions or inflammations and they were thankful for that. It lifted everyone’s spirits and mood, but especially Evan’s.
Eddie let himself into the house. It was dark and quiet, which meant, that his husband was already in bed. He dropped the keys into the bowl by the door, toed off his shoes and went into the master bedroom. Eddie leaned against the doorframe and just looked at his husband. Evan had his headphones on and hadn’t noticed him so far. He was reading on his kindle, that Eddie got him for his birthday. Since the inflammation of his optic nerve healed with high doses of cortisone, Evan took the opportunity to read whenever he had the time.
Watching Evan read, Eddie thought, that he would look sexy with a pair of glasses. In that moment the man in question looked up and smiled sweetly at Eddie. He removed the headphones.
“Hey, you’re home. How was work?” Evan shut off the headphones and Spotify and put them on the nightstand.
“Exhausting. We had back to back calls for the last ten hours of our shift.”
Eddie came over to the bed and bent down to kiss his husband and ran a finger over Evan’s nose. The younger man scrunched up his face adorably and Eddie went through the motion of changing into a pair of sweats and a T-Shirt. He also put on a thick pair of socks, as the night promised to be cold.
After he brushed his teeth he got into bed with his husband. Eddie leaned against the headboard, one Arm around Evan, who’s head was resting on his chest. Evan went back to reading on his kindle, while Eddie scrolled through Instagram. He saw Athena’s post of the sleepover and liked the pictures before showing them to Evan. They both laughed at the silly faces the boys made in one picture and another of the boys passed out on the living room floor.
Eddie was texting Athena with one hand, asking for the pictures of the boys, and the other played with Evan’s hair.
Eddie read a couple of sentences of the book Evan was reading, when his and Evan’s phones continuously beeped with incoming messages. Athena had sent all the pictures and videos of the sleepover into the fire fam group chat.
After watching the videos Athena sent, Eddie put his phone down on his nightstand.
“Did you put on socks?” Eddie asked his husband. He always got cold feet and then put them on Eddie to warm them up.
“No, my feet are warm.” Evan answered distractingly, still reading.
“Yeah now, but in a couple of hours they’re icicles and then you put them on me to warm them up.” Eddie wanted to get up, but Evan wouldn’t let him.
“No, don’t get up. I’m too comfy.” Evan said softly. Eddie saw his eyes were drooping. He took the kindle out of Evan’s hands and put it on the nightstand.
“Hey. I was still reading that.” Evan protested.
“With your eyes closed?” Evan huffed. “Come on, carino. It’s time for bed.”
Eddie slid down the headboard until his head was resting on his pillow. Evan repositioned himself, but still had his head on his husband’s chest.
The older man turned off the beside lamp and Evan tilted his head for a goodnight kiss, but that kiss turned into a soft make out session. Just trading sweet unhurried kisses, that lead absolutely nowhere. It had been a couple of weeks since they made love, but with Evan’s MS their love life had limitations, but Eddie didn’t mind one bit. If he never had sex for the rest of his life, but still had his sweet Evan, then he was just fine with it. What they had was more than just sex. They had each other and that was enough.
Suddenly mid-kiss Evan fell asleep on him. He got so relaxed, that he simply just fell asleep. Eddie laughed and kissed his husband’s forehead and followed him to sleep.
As predicted, Eddie woke up in the middle of the night to cold feet between his calves. The night was cold and so was their room. Eddie carefully got up, so as not to wake his husband and went to the dresser for a pair of socks. He gently put them on Evan’s feet and got back into bed. Evan had turned onto his side, so Eddie spooned behind him, put the cover over both their shoulders. Eddie kissed the nape of Evan’s neck and put an arm around his husband. Evan sighed, intertwined their fingers and put them over his heart. The steady thud of Evan’s heart put Eddie to right back to sleep.
