Work Text:

The whole day he had tried to ignore the butterflies in his stomach. But he couldn't ignore it anymore, the nervousness taking up his body now that he heard Tonks enter the building.
After he had told Sirius last night that he and Tonks would spend the following evening together. Sirius had jumped up and down in glee for nearly 10 minutes telling him he had said so. So Sent us had helped him get ready for a good portion of the day Remus was relieved because it had seemed to distract Sirus from the fact that Harry was still ad the Dursleys.
Now he was wearing his best trousers paired with a white shirt courtesy of Sirius and was nervously shifting on his feet. Sirius laughed as he noticed it 'Don't lose your cool, it's just Tonks, you have spent what at least every second evening alone with her for weeks now?'.
Tonks entered a nervous smile on her lips, she as well had been nervous the whole day, nervous he would beg out last minute, nervous he would found her boring if he got to know her better. She knew that the blabbering she usually bestowed to everyone she was nervous around wouldn't work if she wanted him to come closer, and it wasn't an option to hide behind the tough facade she put up every time she left her flat, she wanted him to know Dora which hide beneath Tonks.
When she entered the kitchen of Grimmauld Place she had to catch her breath, he looked hot in his black trousers and the white shirt where he had left the last two buttons on done. She was wearing black jeans a black Weird Sister Shirt combined with her favored black leather jacket. He was looking at her as if he would see her for the first time, and his lips were slowly forming a smile she couldn't stop the starting.
Sirius has slowly begged out of the room, but it took a moment for either Remus or Tonks to notice. Finally, Tonks started talking 'Remus! I thought we could go to Hyde Park and after that maybe grab something to eat, what do you think?'. 'That would be great, do you want to apparat there?', he answered, shaking free of her mesmerizing looks.
They had apparated to Hyde Park. They were now slowly walking next to each other, talking about everything they came up with. Slowly Remus's nervousness about not finding a topic faded since they had known each other, it had never been a problem to find something g to talk about, and it wasn't a problem now. When they came to the lake, Remus gestured to a bank to sit down. Both looked to the lake where you could see swans circling. They fell silent for a second and just watched.
'Did you know that swans pair up for life if they breed successfully there is only a likelihood of 3%?' Tonks laughed, 'No, I didn't know that. How comes that you always spit out trivia like this?'
'I don't know, always did that. Maybe I spent too much time alone with books.' After that, they talked about books both of them had read. Slowly, centimeter for centimeter, Tonks and Remus both moved closer to one another until their little fingers were touching. She slowly tangled her fingers with his as both of their hearts speeded up.
'Remus, can we talk about what happened yesterday? Was it right that I kissed you? I mean, you caught my eye when Mad-Eye first showed me a picture from the old Order shortly after I passed the Auror test. And I know I felt for you the first evening when Sirus asked me to stay for a drink. You were the first Order members, other than Mad-Eye and Kingsley, who took me seriously.'. 'I don't think I was the only one who took you seriously. I mean, you are Mad-Eyes protege and the youngest Auror for decades. Of course, it was okay more than okay that you kissed me last night. Did you know that I fell for you the first night we met each other you were funny and outgoing? You're the most beautiful witch I ever met. I know you like to change, but you don't need it to be beautiful.'
Now Tonks was speechless, never had anyone said something like that to her. Normally men told her at least after the third date that she should change something about herself. He seemed to be interested in her not for her ability but for who she was.
After that, they went silent for a while. Tonks started to shiver. Only the shirt seemed to have been a bad idea. It was getting cold Remus was slipping out of his jacket and laid it over her shoulders when she began to protest. Shrugging, Remus just said, 'I usually run hot my dad does as well.' 'Really? I need to keep you close, I nearly always freeze, but this outfit would have been ruined with a jumper. What do you think should we grab something to eat?'
They left the park in the direction of Marble Arch, looking for a place to eat. 'The cool thing going out in the muggle world is that you don't have to go to the same places every time.' Suddenly she was pulling him, by the hand, she hadn't let go since they had stood up, to a small cafe, 'Wanna sit down? I think I need to warm up. My treat and don't protest because I don't think men are responsible for paying at a date.'
Remus knew that she knew about his financial problems but put it at the back of his mind, not wanting to destroy the mood.
Tonks was pushing through the cafe, pulling Remus after her in the purse of a small table at the other side of the room, speeding up when she saw another couple looking at the table. They said down, waving to the waitress: 'Two macchiatos and two chocolate cakes, please.' 'That was alright with you, wasn't it? Sorry but I just assumed.' Remus laughed, 'You ordered my two favorites. What should be the problem?'
A smile crept over Tonks's face, and at that moment, Remus couldn't stop himself from reaching for her face. Tonks leaned into his touch. Later both wouldn't be able to say who of them leaned in first, but suddenly their lips were touching. Both were getting bolder when Tonks's tongue was touching his lips, he parted them, their tongues stroking against each other. After what could have been hours they parted breathlessly, just when the waitress arrived with their coffees.
For the next one and a half hours, they played a game invented during hours of undercover work. Whose ever turn it was had to come up with a story of what had brought him here, they laughed at nearly every story they came up with.

All the nervousness had been unnecessary.
