Chapter Text

Viggo had to admit.

Allowing Astrid to shove him onto his belly and let her pin him while grabbing his arm.

It honestly looked painful, but the laughter never seized. The boy could clearly get out of it anytime he wanted to.. but instead he hit his hand on the ground while Astrid proclaimed her victory.

Or was he not able to get out? Snotlout was indeed a good actor.

He was able to fool him once when he got passed him as Sir Ulgerthope, so him being able to fool everyone on how he was feeling and how he couldn't get out of an easy arm hold was plausible.

The stout Viking hit his fist into the wooden planks, "I yield, I yeild!" As the words were said a smug looking Hofferson got up and extended a hand.

Snotlout took it and was helped up before wiping himself off and massaging his shoulder. "Yep, good ol' Astrid." His voice sounded like he was in a bit of pain but the smile that followed afterwards was real.

"Can I go back to eating now?" Astrid rolled her eyes, "Fine, but I'd like to spare later. Having a good sparing partner is fun.."

Snotlout put his hand to his ear, "What was that, I don't think the others heard yo-."

"ooF!" He didn't get to finish as Astrid knocked the air out of him so quick he saw stars.

The Viking rubbed his belly and wobbly walked to his spot once again and sat down.. "ookaay."

Tuffnut laughed, "Walked into that didn't he sister?"

The gang rolled their eyes as Ruffnut piped in. "I was hoping to see blood."

Everyone but Tuffnut looked at her incredulously, "What?"

"Well, this morning has been eventful." Viggo held one hand to his chin the other was supporting it as he spoke.. "but Hiccup if we can get to business."

"Oh, right. Alright Gang, we all know what we're doing this morning."

The twins groaned but shook their head in confirmation while the other spoke their understanding.

The only one who didn't say anything was Snotlout who was reaching into the cauldron getting his third serving.

Everyone waited patiently for his response until it was clear he wasn't paying attention as his legs were kicking and he was shoving the spoon in his mouth with a small smile on his face.

Hiccup sighed, but years of Snotlouts antics taught him to be patient. "Snotlout." His voice was calm but the Jorgenson seemed to be enjoying his food too much.

"Snotlout." Still calm as ever.

The boy looked up, freezing when he realized all eyes were on him again and a shy smile spread on his lips, "What was that? I wasn't listening."

"You know what you need to do today, right?"

Snotlout took another bite before speaking with his mouth full. "You know I do."

Tuffnut and Ruffnut snickered, "I'm sure you do."

Hiccups calm expression never faltered. "You want to tell me what it is?"

Snotlout rolled his eyes, the rays from the sun caught his eyes, making them sparkle and pointed with his spoon at the parchment paper pinned on the side of the large door with a dagger.

"That."

Hiccup took a breath, "And?"

"Is there more I need to do besides counting the hundreds of Nightterrors we have and the Gronckles and Dagurs Tripplestrike that visits every so often?" Snotlout was frustrated now.

"Nope your good. Thanks Snotlout, as always your on top of your game." Hiccups smiled widened when Snotlouts eyes glinted with a happiness that he was acknowledged for knowing what to do and he was back to kicking his legs and eating contentedly.

Viggos lips curled slightly. These interactions felt like he was witnessing something he shouldn't be apart of.

And of course he knew he didn't belong. At least that is what he felt.

After saving Hiccup and Toothless he was dragged back to the edge injured and nursed back to health.

It took him a while to gain everyone's trust but they have invited him to live among them.

The only person who still had doubts was the Jorgenson. The stout Viking with a stubbornness no one could match.

"Alright Gang, let's get started."

Snotlout watched as Viggo set an arm around his cousin. Not caring for the geek conversation they were having as they were stepping out but he watched them leave, eyes narrowed only for a moment then going back to his food.

Slurping it up then getting a fourth.

Everyone started to leave while Snotlout was still finishing his breakfast. The boy had a belly as large as a dragon.

Tuffnut and Ruffnut was assigned to watch the far side of the island to the north.

Fishlegs, like he said had parchment to continue to work on.

Astrid was on patrol.

He had the most boring job of all of them. Counting then recounting the number of dragons on the island.

Or it was just Hiccup getting him as far away from the group on purpose. To where he couldn't keep an eye on them.

Well he'd surprise him. He'll count the dragons as fast as he can and be back before the sun is not even half way in the sky.

He gulped down his fourth bowl and left it on the stone table and got up grabbing the parchment paper Hiccup hung up to the exit of the dining hall and a charcoal pencil before running out.

Snotlout jumped onto Hookfang and took off, determined to finish the job.
