Love wasn't for everyone for sure.
Tenma Tsukasa , a top actor that had always been busy filming for shoots. He has a boyfriend , but barely gets to spend time with him due to the amount of work his manager would give him. Of course , after his work was done he'd always spend his whole time with his boyfriend.
Kamishiro Rui , an unfortunate boy who had been cursed with the Hanahaki Disease. On one fortunate day , he suddenly became Tsukasa's boyfriend. Although , that was the only luck he had left. Tsukasa barely has any time for him and neither does he. He had never told Tsukasa about his disease since everytime he tried to tell him , someone or something just had to interrupt.
It's already June 23 , a day left before Rui's birthday. Unfortunately , Tsukasa's schedule was filled at that day. He's a hardworking guy truly , after all , being an actor was his dream job. Rui loved the other truly so he would wait for him no matter what , as long as he can spend time with him.
Rui had been suffering from the disease for about 2 years now , ever since Tsukasa accepted his confession. Vomiting flowers was like a hobby to him now , though he still feels uneasy because it can happen anytime. He knew that he wont be able to survive much longer.
He knew he'd eventually die.
Someone called him. " Hello? Tsukasa?- " Rui started coughing , it felt like everytime he had mentioned Tsukasa's name.. he starts vomiting.
" Rui? Are you okay? " Tsukasa had heard his coughing and was genuinely worried.
" I'm fine.. why did you call me? "
" Why shouldn't i? Besides , i have a surprise for you tomorrow! "
" Really? I'll be looking forward to it. "
" Advanced Happy Birthday to my love~ " Rui just smiled at the others birthday greet to him , unfortunately it wasn't so happy since he started coughing again.
" ..Rui? Are you really okay? " He sounded more worried now.
" I'm fine , I swear- "
It started , Rui desperately tried to tap the hang up button but his fingers were shaky. He didn't want Tsukasa to worry further , but his body was too weak now. His body couldn't handle it anymore , he felt like passing out.
" Rui?! Rui?? " The other kept calling his name , but all he could hear was his beloved coughing.
" Tsukasa.. don't worry about me , I'll be fine tomorrow.. i can't miss out on your surprise after all.. "
" Are you sure? I can go take a break and go there- "
" Don't.. just continue your work , it's alright i swear. "
Though the blond didn't believe him at all , he knew Rui well enough.
" For me? "
" Fine... "
" Take care of yourself , alright? "
" I will. "
He was , he was trying to. But his health was already bad from the disease , yet he just kept fighting it.. just to see the blonds smile everyday. He loved that feeling , but he couldn't love it for much longer in his condition. If he was to die , it should be after he had seen Tsukasa's surprise.
But he wasn't even lucky to begin with. He doesn't know how Tsukasa loved him , accepted his confession and all of that. Maybe it was fates doing , giving him the one he had adored so much and then suffering an incurable disease.
The more he thought of Tsukasa , the more pain he had to go through. He wonders , ' would things be different if he had rejected me? ' . Maybe , but either way the disease is given to one who is suffering unrequited love or reciprocated love. Either way , he was meant to die.
If he had never fallen inlove , things however , would definitely be different. But , you can't escape love.
The Hanahaki Disease is not given to all people who has unrequited love or reciprocated love , it was simply chosen randomly.
In other words , Kamishiro Rui was cursed with death to begin with. Nothing could save him from that.
Even so , he must be hated by the Gods if he were to die before he had seen Tsukasa's surprise birthday gift. Then , if he was really hated by the Gods.. he would be dead by now.
It's already night time , a few hours left until his birthday. Tsukasa would be coming home at any time now. If only , if only he could see the blonds smile before his death.. then it would be alright. But , would Tsukasa be alright with that? No , that's right , Rui barely thought of how the other would feel.
He just realized this , being an idiot and keeping all this to himself. He's only giving himself pleasure , but not the other. He was selfish , but it's alright to be selfish before dying right? He didn't know. How can someone so selfish like him be loved by someone? He didn't deserve anyone.
Maybe , just maybe , this was why he was cursed by death.
His body was still shaking. He could barely even stand up , if Tsukasa were to see him like this... he'd rather die. After all , the blond had looked up to Rui so much. Rui was the reason Tsukasa had got a job for acting. The two were always there for eachother. But now , they're adults. Barely being there for the other.
Rui thought a lot today , to the point his head started to hurt. Why today out of all days? Before his birthday even , it's so cruel.
A few minutes later , he had found himself blacking out from the stress.
Tsukasa arrived just after. " Rui!! I'm home!! " the boy shouted , though Rui was passed out on the bed. The blonds arms are behind his back , what is he hiding?
" Oh? He's sleeping already... "
That's what he had thought , for now. The blond moved closer to Rui , though he didn't look like he was breathing.
He didn't want to believe anything right now , " .. I'll just go take a bath first. " Tsukasa stood up again , and placed a small box on top of a drawer.
Tsukasa walked over to the bathroom , turning the lights on. His eyes widened upon seeing flowers in the sink. " What? Flowers?... " , He was confused yet scared the whole time.
" Why would there be flowers here? " Though he wasn't that close to the sink , he just saw flowers sticking out from the sink. He could see it upon entering the bathroom.
The blond went over to the sink , there was also blood there. It wasn't water that was on the sink , it was blood. But flowers and blood? How does it connect?
Soon he realized it , His sister was talking about how some people cough blood and puke flowers if you had a certain disease. But then , why had Rui never told him?
He went out of the bathroom , going over to Rui. His body was getting colder , Rui wasn't dead right? He didn't want to believe it , he couldn't even give a proper goodbye to him. He should've just went over and ditched work. But then again , Rui wouldn't like that..
Tsukasa picked up the small box , slowly opening it with his shaky fingers. A ring was in it. Yes , he was supposed to propose to Rui for his birthday. But was that even possible now?
A few minutes had passed , Tsukasa just stared at the ring with an empty feeling.
It hit 12:00 , It's June 24. Rui's birthday. But the birthday boy himself couldn't even enjoy it. The blond picked up the ring and grabbed Rui's hand gently.
" I'm sorry i didn't have enough time for you.. " Tsukasa said as he placed the ring on the others finger.
" Why didn't you tell me you barely had time too? " he whispered to himself , turning into a crying mess.
How would he enjoy life now?
