Missing Youth

Summary:

Izuku doesn’t remember when his childhood started.

-----

Growing up in isolation has messed up with his mind. Trapped inside a beautiful cage woven for him, Izuku knew freedom was something that'll never be his.

Izuku has tried his best to be better but nothing seems to work in the way he wanted nor deserves.

Though many has reached and gave him a helping hand when he needed it.

Notes:

I dreamt about this for days now. I'm haunted. Seriously.

I just wanted a cute story where Izuku is a part of Todoroki family, but my brain decided to give me this.

If I suffers, I also want y'all to suffer the same way. Idk, maybe you'll enjoy it, maybe you'll hate it, honestly I just want to get this out from my system.

Anyway Enjoy!

Work Text:

Izuku doesn’t remember when his childhood started.

Maybe at the age of four? But he’s already helping his mother to clean the house after her late-night outings. He knew his mother could care less about household chores and the only reason he’s fed is because she would bring home food she ate from outside. He even tried to show her his quirk, which the doctors called it as pyroportation, but she only gave him a cold glare as an answer.

Maybe she doesn’t like on how his quirk can only be activated within fire area, maybe it’s because he found out about his quirk after accidentally burning the kitchen, or maybe she doesn’t like it because it reminded her of his father.

Growing up, Izuku realizes it was the latter.

Maybe at the age of six? But he already knew his mother despised his existence. He has worked his hardest to get his mother’s attention, but it seems that it never worked. It’s because he’s Izuku. He knew what a mistake is, and he learnt the hard way that he’s also considered one. His mother didn’t even give him a proper surname, maybe because she’s hoping that he’ll take someone else’s surname instead, becoming someone else’s burden.

Maybe at the age of nine? But he doesn’t go to places that normal kids would go to as a part of having a fulfilling childhood. Something called school, arcade, mall, and such. Izuku has never went to any of those places, trapped inside a dingy apartment, stuck to repeat a never-ending chores, and keeping himself alive when his mother wouldn’t.

Right now, he’s twelve. Way too mature for his own age when his mother enrolled him in some place called the academy, when he’s ten. Izuku differentiated two years ago and it seems like his mother took that as an opportunity to get rid of him once and for all. The academy he’s in only accept Omegas as students, though there’s a certain feeling in his chest where everything just feels wrong, it shouldn’t be like this, shouldn’t feel like this.

He doesn’t understand, and he never will in the near future.

He didn’t know what students should learn or do, but learning to do household chores, sewing, knitting, cooking class and all of that isn’t something new for him. He thought school is supposed to let him learn something that you never knew before. Though he doesn’t complain, because if they passed every class, they will meet an Alpha that would take them as their wife. Alphas will only like perfect Omegas, and Izuku strives to be the best.

Izuku finished all of his classes with flying colors nearing the age of thirteen. His teachers patted him at his back and instructed Izuku to have a meet-up later at evening. Izuku knew he’s going to be chosen. Someone is going to pick him, he thought with glee.

He does get picked.

A tall, muscular Alpha with bright red hair, looking like a spike. Izuku can guess what his Alpha would be like from his stern face, constantly furrowed brows and a frown that seems like it’s going to last forever.

To say Izuku isn’t scared is a lie. The boy is frightened beyond words. He doesn’t know what to do when he got picked, he doesn’t know what requirement his Alpha would want from him, and he doesn’t know whether he’ll do good or not.

Though he’ll try his best to be the perfect mate.

The greenette is pregnant not long after. Izuku just learnt the man’s name after his first month of pregnancy. From the moment he’s married to Enji, his Alpha gave him list of chores he’ll have to do around the house. He knew Enji has three children. The eldest daughter and second son is away right now, the former is in college far across the country, and the latter is in boarding school. His last son, Todoroki Shoto, is the same age as him. He was surprised to know on how different his life is compared to the bi-colored hair boy.

Though Izuku comforted himself that Shoto is an Alpha, and it’s just natural to do things he’s currently doing right now.

Soon enough, Izuku went to a familiar rhythm of chores once again. Considering Enji hired maids to do the cleaning, Izuku only need to do cooking and checking the expense around the house. He has to make sure everything got paid and minimize the expense, so they won’t be wasting much money.

Thankfully, the academy has prepared him for this. Checking the money balance in the family is an important skill to have when an Omega got married. So when their husbands focus on their work, Omegas, as the wife, will take care of the rest.

A month after familiarizing himself, Enji told him that he needed a new heir. His Alpha has always wanted a perfect heir but none of his current children has fulfilled his expectations. Shoto is the closest considering his perfect half ice-half fire quirk but Enji got fed up by the attitude his youngest has been giving him, so he decided to have a more obedient son.

Izuku, although not possessing an ice quirk to match Shoto, is also perfect with his pyroportation. A teleportation quirk is always something rare and considering the quirk needed to use fire to activate it, that means Izuku or his children who inherited this quirk will have natural resistance towards fire.

A quirk that has natural heat resistance and inherited Enji’s fully is what the man aims as the perfect heir.

Forcing the young Omega has never been the problem. He can cry, beg or scream all he wants but Enji has bought him and this Omega is a property belonging to him.

Izuku’s pregnancy is hard. Considering he’s already in his third trimester and is currently only thirteen, the boy is struggling to keep up with everything when his whole body is filled with pain.

Though he did meet with the youngest Todoroki once or twice. Considering he only went outside his room to cook, Izuku barely can have a conversation with him with their introverted nature and different schedules.

When they did meet, it’s usually in the weekends or when Shoto isn’t going to school. But meeting Shoto will always be a weird experience for Izuku.

Considering their same age, Izuku doesn’t see himself as a stepmother but yet he and Enji is legally married, so he’s also, legally, their stepmother. Shoto also doesn’t know he’s a new addition in the family and mistook him as one of the housekeeper’s kid. Izuku doesn’t want to fix that misunderstanding so he just went with it.

He genuinely enjoyed Shoto’s company. It’s so mesmerizing whenever Shoto recount his experience from the outside world. Even though he thinks his schedule is boring and monotone, but for Izuku who hasn’t stepped outside from the front door, Shoto’s day-to-day activity is like a dream.

He’s used to be inside a cramped apartment, he’s used to stay inside the academy, guarded by the tall gates, and now, he’s trapped inside Todoroki Estate.

Like a precious canary inside its golden cage.

Other than doing the chores Enji gave him, Izuku favorite pastime is to hang out with Shoto when they met.

Though, it’s awkward now when he’s already pregnant, with a huge belly, and Izuku isn’t ready for questions that he doesn’t prepare any answers for. So for the whole nine months, Izuku has been actively avoiding Shoto whenever the boy is out of school, or currently in the house.

He doesn’t understand why he felt the need to avoid. He doesn’t know why shame crept up inside his heart, even though Omegas should be proud for carrying their Alpha’s pup, but Izuku just cannot look into Shoto’s eyes right now.

Labor is excruciating. Izuku really hopes that he doesn’t have to do it anymore but if Enji knew about it, he’ll slap him hard for not being a proper Omega. Omegas will always have to be ready for pregnancy and giving birth, if one doesn’t do it, then they’re not being a perfect Omega.

Those words has been drilled into his head to the point he can recite the whole Omega rule without blinking.

After all, Izuku knew his worth is his ability to carry a baby.

When everything is said and done, Izuku saw how red and wrinkled his son is, how Enji’s eyes never stayed on him and then everything turned black. Enji walked into the room and gave the boy a glance but then focuses back to the newborn baby in the nurse’s arm. He began to instruct the doctors to do tests, determining the possibilities of quirks and second gender this kid will be.

The newborn child is named Todoroki Kenji.

Izuku felt a growing lump inside his heart when he wasn’t able to name his child, though his Alpha knows best so Izuku swallows back the disappointment inside.

The day Kenji is born, Todoroki Estate held a celebration. The doctors can confirm that Kenji has a high chance to differentiate as an Alpha, which doesn’t surprise Enji. He specifically search for an Omega mate just fo his child will follow his blood. After all, pups born from Omegas will have a high-chance to follow their other parent, mostly Alpha.

His previous marriage with Rei was a disappointment to say the least. Since Rei is a beta, his children has mostly follows her, except Shoto, but the boy also refuses to follow his trainings and instructions, so Enji decided to give up.

Now with Kenji, Enji promises to himself that he’ll make this boy rise to the top, finally defeating the number one hero.

Shoto is surprised. The day he found his father walked in with a baby in his arm made his heart palpitate. How? Did he kidnap someone else’s child? What is he doing with a baby?

His questions were answered when he saw a tuft of green curls beside his father.

The boy Izuku is emitting a different pheromone. He knew what this pheromone meant, his mother also has it whenever she tries to calm down his siblings. It’s a motherly pheromone Omegas would emit after they have a child.

Shoto really hoped that whatever he’s seeing, or smelling, right now is not what he thought it is.

His prayers went unanswered when his father called him to talk in his office.

“You must’ve seen Izuku around right?” His stern face used to make Shoto shiver, but right now, he can’t really think of another thing other than Izuku.

Shoto nodded and his father continued, “Well, Izuku is my mate, so he’ll stay here from now on. I’ve been working outside for months so I’ll take this time to tell you. You have a younger brother, Todoroki Kenji, and Izuku will be Rei’s replacement.”

Shoto can almost feel his heart leapt out from his chest. He wanted to scream, wanted to freeze the man he called father in front of him, run away, anything. This is so messed up.

The boy he’s been talking for a month and disappeared before is his stepmother. Todoroki wanted to vomit, it’s really nauseating the fact that Izuku is his own age and his father just…

“I’m expecting the same level of respect you have for me to Kenji. Since you refused to follow my steps, Kenji will replace your place. Now, you can choose to follow your older siblings whether you wanted to stay abroad or stay here.”

If his father said this to him years ago, Shoto wouldn’t hesitate to choose abroad, he wanted to stay away from his father as far as he can. But knowing Izuku, and now his half-brother Kenji, he can’t betray his conscience to leave both of them behind.

He’ll be ridden with so much guilt knowing he can help a bit but he doesn’t.

So he chooses to stay.

His father nodded, he gestured to the study door, “Alright, you’ll stay at your current schooling, you can get out now.”

Not wanting to stay longer, Shoto walked stiffly towards the door. Outside in the hallway, he searched for the Omega, he doesn’t know what Izuku is feeling but he knew being forced to bear a child at such a young age will scar someone.

Finding Izuku wasn’t hard. The boy is either in the living room, checking for expenses or in the kitchen to prepare some food. Right now, Izuku is in the living room, cradling the small baby in his arm. Shoto hesitates, he doesn’t know what to do, or to say, to the green-haired boy. Frankly, he felt disgusted himself thinking of the things his father forced the boy to do.

He knew his father isn’t a great one, but he didn’t think he’ll go this low.

Izuku notices him and waved, he called Shoto to sit next to him and Shoto complies.

“Hey Shoto, sorry I’ve been avoiding you before.” Izuku gave him a sheepish smile. How is he still smiling?

But Shoto doesn’t answer. His eyes stayed between Izuku and the baby in front of him. The greenette seems to notice Shoto’s gaze and scoots farther, his arms guarded Kenji tighter. Izuku gave a nervous chuckle, “Ah, so your father must’ve talked to you huh?”

Shoto nodded in which Izuku gulped, “Uh, it-it’s fine. You don’t have to be, uhm, weird around me, “ His eyes flicks towards Kenji, “You can still call me Izuku and, um, this is your brother, Kenji.”

Shoto stared at the baby. He didn’t know what to feel considering many things are jumbled in his chest but what he knew, is that he’s guilty. He can already imagine all of the things this baby will face in the future, all of the trainings he and Touya used to do, he can imagine the fury, the cries and the pain Kenji will experience. And it’s all because of him. If he didn’t argue with his father, if he didn’t rebel, Izuku will probably have a happier childhood, Kenji doesn’t need to be born and experience hell.

All of this will never happen if he just obeys.

Though regretting the past doesn’t really changes the future, so Shoto will try his hardest to cope and help the greenette in front of him. Out of all of the things Shoto wanted to say, he only utters, “Can I hold Kenji?”

Though it seems to help the wariness and panic inside Izuku’s eyes, “Of course.” He handed the baby into Shoto’s arm.

It was a peaceful time.

The clock ticks and time passes in a flash. Thankfully for the three kids, Enji doesn’t always stays at home, since he’ll be out for months because of his job. But revealing the news to Shoto’s siblings however, is difficult.

When Fuyumi and Natsuo first came home, they were greeted by Izuku in the kitchen while Kenji laying on the couch. Both Todoroki siblings were confused. After rounds of questioning and Shoto answered their question, Izuku can see their furious expression on knowing what their father did, and cast Izuku with sympathy. It wasn’t the best experience, but Izuku is glad there’s someone else to understand him.

After knowing the three Todoroki siblings, everything Izuku knew about being an Omega is turned upside down. Since Izuku doesn’t have a phone or watches TV, he missed the news regarding the academy he was in got caught for prostitution of minor, selling off Omega children to Alphas and promotes sexual assault for Omegas.

Every staff in the academy held guilty and all children in there were saved and placed under the government’s watch. The news circulating rapidly to the fact many Omegas has been showing their displeasure and protesting on the streets for better protection against Omegas. These Alphas can get their ways considering there wasn’t any age limit for Omegas to marry. As long they differentiated, they’re considered adult enough to get married.

Those laws has been dated back to pre-quirk era. Even though there’s other laws against child marriages, against discrimination for depriving Omegas from education, healthcare and basic necessities, there’s always those who uses the loophole in the law and did it anyway.

And the marriage law is one of it. Most Omegas will differentiate later, which means at their late teens to twenties, but for those who differentiate early, like Izuku, is not within the scope of law protection even if he’s still considered a child.

Many laws have been revised and changed for better. Omega marriage law has been abolished, so all gender, Alpha, Beta and Omegas has to be an adult before they can get married. Izuku was bewildered knowing that Omegas can attend schools and receive education, even before the law change, since he never went to one for the first ten years of his life.

He can go to school.

He can learn many, many things other than doing household chores.

He doesn’t have to get married.

He doesn’t have to give birth to a child.

And tears slip out from his eyes, as he mourns for what he can be, but never will.

Fuyumi is there to comfort him. She hugged and patted the green-haired boy’s back. Even though her quirk is supposed to be cold, but Izuku can’t help to burrow himself further in Fuyumi’s embrace, absorbing the warmth from the older woman.

After, Izuku began to pick pieces of himself, he began to re-learn about how things are supposed to be, with the Todoroki’s help of course. Fuyumi helped him to take care of Kenji and Izuku can’t be more grateful to the woman.

He learnt many things, language, math, ethics, law, and he loses count. He was fascinated with everything that sometimes he still needed Fuyumi or Natsuo to remind him when to eat or sleep.

Though, whenever Enji is home, Izuku made sure to stay out of his way and thankfully, the Alpha never bothers him too. Considering the marriage law has been abolished, Izuku is now free from Enji’s clutches, but then again, he doesn’t have anywhere else he can stay with Kenji, so he’ll have to wait a bit more before he can have a place of his own.

Spring turns into summer, summer turned into autumn, and autumn turned into winter. A whole year passes and it’s time for Shoto’s high school year.

Kenji has grown up to be a chubby baby with curly red hair, and bright emerald eyes. Izuku can’t stop his smile whenever he heard his son’s babble or laughter in this messed up life. Izuku didn’t follow Shoto to high school, instead he took online courses to accommodate him better.

Izuku doesn’t have much going on, but he always saw attacks against U.A on the news which worried him endless. After many visits from the hospital, U.A decided to implement the dorm rule after that certain blonde boy’s kidnapping, Izuku swears he felt familiar seeing the name, to protect the students better.

Even though Izuku doesn’t need to enter high school, but there’s a longing buried deep inside to experience what it’s like to be a normal boy. But a glance at Kenji on his side is enough to falter any of his decision to stay far away from his son.

Though he doesn’t need to stay long to know the feeling when he entered U.A to bring Shoto’s stuff. It wasn’t crowded but it’s also not completely deserted either when Izuku came. He hugged Kenji on his hip while his other hand held a bag filled with Shoto’s things that were missed at the house.

When he entered U.A, he saw a ragged looking man, which he recognize as the underground hero Eraserhead! Izuku smiled at the man who has a confused gleam in his eyes, he told him about bringing back Shoto’s stuff and Mr. Eraserhead guided the way to Shoto’s dorm. On the way, Izuku can feel the questioning glances Mr. Eraserhead gave him but he ignores it.

After arriving, Izuku thanked the man and went in with Kenji.

Shouta is confused. Years working underground has exposed him to many things.

Shoto has asked for permission from him and principal Nezu regarding a family member that’s going to visit since there’s some things he left back at his house. Nezu agrees and Shouta doesn’t really cares. He knew the said family member is an Omega and Shoto doesn’t explain further than that, so Shouta has expected it either to be a parent, a sibling, cousin, anything.

But when he saw a really young Omega came in, he doesn’t have that in his expectation. A really young omega with a baby on his hip and motherly pheromone wafting from him.

Shouta can almost see the red flags surrounding this kid and he decided to have a talk with Todoroki boy after the visit.

Entering U.A’s dorm building is an interesting experience for Izuku. When he finished delivering Shoto’s things, the boy invited him to hang out with his friends for a while. Izuku isn’t going to pass the opportunity up and said yes.

Meeting new people were terrifying but exciting at the same time. He saw many new faces and kind smiles around him. Since Izuku can’t cover his natural pheromone, Shoto has to make some things cleared up before. They’re very understanding regarding Izuku’s situation and the greenette is really glad.

He may won’t experience more than this, but he’s glad to stay this far.

He’ll do better for a future he’s finally able to have.
