Work Text:
Solomon told you he wanted to make something everyone could enjoy for the RAD Christmas celebrations, but you’d been so busy running around inspecting (and spying) that you had no idea what he’d planned until it was completed.
He proudly showed you a slope that was, to be honest, a little terrifyingly steep. But you gamely went along with him, climbing a ladder to the top, where there was room to stand and get a better feel for exactly how terrifyingly steep it was. He’d piled some inflatable snow tubes, and there were bales of hay at the bottom to prevent you from being hurled off into something more dangerous, but it was still pretty intimidating.
“Don’t worry,” he assured you, “I’ll make sure that you’ll be safe.”
You trusted him, but you still had to muster up a lot of courage to climb into the tube - and stay there - and let him push off down the slope.
You held on for dear life, trying not to scream, and by the time you slowed at the bottom and bumped into the hay bales, you were limp with relief.
That’s why you’d let go of the handles.
Which is why the bump at the bottom tossed you right onto Solomon.
And he hugged you without any hesitation.
So you kissed him.
He made no move to interrupt you, and when your lips separated, he asked, “Was that a ‘thank you for saving me’ kind of kiss or an ‘I love you’ kiss?”
You were caught off guard by the question, and in your moment of confusion, trying to figure out what to say, he added, “Personally, I’d be happy if it were the latter…”
When you finally found your voice, it came out with a squeak.
“You mean I’ve been keeping my feelings a secret for no good reason?”
His expression turned from surprise to happiness in less than a second. He put his hand behind your neck, pulling you closer as he rose up to meet you for a much more emotional kiss than the one before. It was much longer, too. And the first of several.
“I can’t believe I didn’t know,” you admitted, as you snuggled into the sorcerer’s warm embrace.
“Well, I didn’t, either, so you shouldn’t feel embarrassed.”
Solomon and you shared a laugh over your mutual cluelessness. He took your hands and noted that they were freezing, and suggested you go to Madame Scream’s and get a hot drink together. You rested both your frozen hands on his arm, and he covered them with his free hand the entire walk.
Inside the store, you told each other about the clues you’d tried to send out, both amazed at how many you’d missed before tonight.
“From now on, let’s just say how we feel. Does that sound alright to you?”
You nodded. You were warm inside and out now.
“I was so worried that with everyone constantly vying for your attention, you’d have nothing left for me.” He looked a little sad at this, so you took his hand and laid it over your heart.
“Solomon, I’ve always kept room for you in here. There’s a place for you in my heart for as long as you want it.”
He chuckled briefly, sounding almost relieved, then stared into your eyes. “What if I want it forever?”
You lifted his hand higher so you could press his knuckles to your lips.
“Then it’s yours forever, Solomon. I promise.”
