Under The Mistletoe

Summary:

Maybe it was the way he looked, the way he was a total flirt, or maybe it was how Kunikuzushi didn’t know anything about him even when they lived together. But something was there that pulled Kunikuzushi to want to see his roommate on Christmas Eve.

Notes:

This is in fact a little bit late for the Holidays or Christmas, but Merry Late Christmas. Enjoy this cute Scaraether Christmas fic 💗 I spent so long on it

Work Text:

“Christmas Party? Do you think I’m fucking five, Tartaglia? No way.”

Kunikuzushi rolled his eyes, glaring at the ginger in front of him, that was annoyingly over at his shared apartment. He liked to barge in unexpectedly, rather to see his roommate, or ask Kunikuzushi for dumb shit like this.

It was that time of year again, December, or more over, that time of year where everybody is so cheerful for no reason, and the time where Christmas music won’t shut up. Kunikuzushi liked when it was finally over, new years, or finally closer to his birthday where he can spend time in peace.

The two of them sat in Kunikuzushi’s bed, Kunikuzushi trying to get Tartaglia off it to be in fact, but still staying. As December rolled around, it was also time for exams, he didn’t have time for any “Christmas Spirit” or whatever people called it. He needed to pass his university exams which is more important than a stupid holiday.

“Listen, Bob, I know you don’t like these social events but your super hot roomy is suppose to be there.” Tartaglia said looking at Kunikuzushi with a big smile on his face.

In return, Kunikuzushi’s face was a blank judgemental stare as he sat up with his tablet in hand. Mumbling about how Tartaglia has been coming up with stupid ass names to call him recently— it was more of complaining.

Kunikuzushi scoffed, “We don’t even talk half the time in our house. What makes you think I’d care if he’s there?”

The truth is, Kunikuzushi has been hitting on his roommate for the longest of times. Another truth was that his roommate didn’t talk a lot. Both of them had a busy schedule so they rarely had time to just talk, plus their personalities really didn’t mix well. As a person, Kunikuzushi’s roommate was annoying, the only good thing was his face and body, but as a roommate, he was spectacular to live with.

Kunikuzushi got to sleep peacefully without any loud commotion, they both kept the house clean, and both didn’t like people over. The only times it got super annoying was when his roommate had to bring his baby sister over. This kid was super aware on Kunikuzushi’s standards, but luckily enough, Kunikuzushi didn’t mind kids.

“He’s hot as hell, babygirl-“

“Can you stop calling me these ridiculous names and just call me by my name.”

“Asides, He’s super hot. You really do not know how many people are trying to get with him. And out of everybody, he decided to move in with you.” Tartaglia said, stopping his sentence like it was a big surprise. From the little reaction to no reaction Kunikuzushi gave Tartaglia it provoked the male to keep speaking, “Sooo, What I’m saying is your chances are higher than most. Like, what if he’s totally into you and you’re just ignoring it?”

Another one of Tartaglia’s useless rambles. It felt useless to Kunikuzushi at least. His blond roommate definitely didn’t like him whatsoever. Kunikuzushi fed the two, mostly when the blond came home late nights or early mornings, they only interacted when even necessary. Sometimes, when they see each other in the living room or kitchen they still ignored each other.

On some occasions, Kunikuzushi did hear his roommate talk on the phone. It sounded giddy and talkative, completely opposite of their conversations. It was probably creepy but their walls weren’t the thickest, so to know his roommate more, he would sometimes listen in on the conversation. The blond seemed to always talk to a sibling of sorts whenever on the phone, and he constantly told them everything. On some topics, it made Kunikuzushi feel like a pervert listening in, but it wasn’t really his fault.

“Archons, You’re so lucky. If I were you I’d totally get him laid.” Tartaglia ended his sentence.

Kunikuzushi looked at Tartaglia like he was crazy, hitting him with one of his pillows on the head. “We’re just boring ass roommates. Get your head out of the gutter you gingered-reindeer looking fuck.”

“Hey-! I’m just saying-! Just promise me to be at the party! Who knows, maybe he’ll dress up if he hears you’re coming.” The gingered laughed, blocking the beating pillow with his hands, and then grabbing it from Kunikuzushi.

With that, Kunikuzushi admitted defeat. He really didn’t want to go, but the only tolerable person there would be his roommate to him. He knew the blond would much probably want to talk to anybody but him, but he kinda wanted to see his roommate more lively. It was something he didn’t see often, or at all, so maybe, he’d just sneak in, take a few drinks, witness his roommate from afar, and leave without being noticed. Kunikuzushi doubted his roommate would even notice him due to how blank they are to each other.

He sighed, his grip tightening, and then one big exhale. “Fine. I’ll think about it. I think it’s utterly worthless, but since you won’t leave me alone until I give you an answer you’re happy with.”

Tartaglia chuckled as he went to give Kunikuzushi a hug. Kunikuzushi leaning away immediately, “Don’t you dare think about it.”

He nodded as he leaned back from Kunikuzushi but Kunikuzushi could tell he was genuinely happy. What a stupid person that called him a friend. Now that, was laughable.

~♡︎~

Call Kunikuzushi dumb, but he actually did show up. Thank god, he brought a coat because it was freezing outside. What? He wasn’t afraid to wear a long coat just because it’s not in fashion. Underneath was also basic; just a turtleneck. He wanted zero attention towards himself, so in that he wore the most basic thing in his closet that he seemed to wear a lot.

He wanted to be in and out, maybe a few drinks, see how Aether acted, and get out of this cramped house. It was obviously hosted by a spoiled rich kid due to how nice the house genuinely looked. If he had to guess, it was probably hosted by one of the nerds of his University.

It was completely filled with guest, even actual food on the dinner table. It made Kunikuzushi feel like he was at one of those big family gatherings, the one where everybody knows you and you don’t know them, except it didn’t seem like a lot of people knew each other here.

Kunikuzushi didn’t know what he was doing. Looking for Aether? Possibly. Was he trying to not look like he was? Absolutely. Kunikuzushi didn’t even know how to approach Aether. Yes, they were roommates but, they really were just strangers. They only knew a few things about each other and were just agreeing to keep the peace in their shared home for both their well-being. They weren’t close whatsoever, so Kunikuzushi couldn’t really just walk up to Aether, and act like he knew him.

The worse part of it all was; Kunikuzushi couldn’t see Tartaglia at all. Kunikuzushi was what you would call the adopted introverted friend by an extrovert, so Tartaglia naturally was the one doing the talking for him. If the ginger was here— Kunikuzushi could have used it as an excuse to talk to Aether.

There was a big Christmas tree decorated in the living room and with nothing else to do, Kunikuzushi kept staring at it like a cat. It could be in a similar way why cats stared at them too. He was simply curious and interested in how bright it was, how many ornaments were on it, and even the gifts under the tree. It felt so show-sparkly since Kunikuzushi usually never cared for putting one up, plus his family never really celebrated it as a kid. So, it was one in few times he saw it in an actual house looking this nice.

He soon realised, he probably looks like a total loser. Kunikuzushi went back to glancing around the room to legit trying find anybody he knew that wasn’t Aether. He didn’t even know where Aether was but it’s definitely not a choice.

The thing about Aether was he liked to teasingly ask questions all the time when they talked. Kunikuzushi didn’t know if Aether was like that just to him or to everybody but, it made him so attracted to the blond. Aether’s looks and his personality was sickening to Kunikuzushi.

Then, his eyes spotted one person. Not his personal favourite but definitely somebody he knew to an extent. His ex from his 1st year of university, safe to say, they didn’t really end on the best of terms. Mona wasn’t a total bitch, they still talked in their classes, and shared notes. They were both just controlling and had different views, so they just split. Kunikuzushi didn’t want to talk to her but, it’s better than staying in this damn corner alone.

He saw her talking to a certain platinum blonde hair girl that he’s never seen in his life. Whoever it was, it wouldn’t be bad for Kunikuzushi to know more people, he just didn’t like to. Whatever, he can just come off as nice.

“Hey, Mona. Am I interrupting something?” Kunikuzushi said as he walked up to the two of them with a smile plastered on his face.

Mona simply scoffed at Kunikuzushi’s attempt. “Get that ridiculous personality out of my face, Kunikuzushi.” She said as she rolled her eyes obviously not caring for Kunikuzushi’s fake-look in the slightest.

“Oh- Mona? Who’s this guy? Do you two know each other?” The blonde girl next to Mona asked.

“Don’t worry about him, Lumine. He’s nothing but a fly. Just keep talking while
this fly stays on the wall.” Mona replied to the girl named Lumine.

Lumine. That name rung a bell in Kunikuzushi’s head. Where has he heard it before? Whatever the case, it seemed Mona didn’t mind if Kunikuzushi was here. Just didn’t talk. And that’s what Kunikuzushi preferred. Just don’t make him look like a total loser and he’d be fine.

“Anyways, my brother keeps talking about how he finally met his dreamboat guy. Dark and mysterious, can cook, is good with kids, already rich, and doesn’t he sound just like he’s describing some fictional character?” Lumine gasped as both and Mona laughed, “What if he totally has been and I’ve been getting the message wrong the whole time.”

The two girls giggled and gossiped. Kunikuzushi wasn’t trying to sound like he was actually listening but Archons, he was. They made it sound so interesting about this drama, and to be honest, Kunikuzushi was invested.

“He told me he actually got to move in with his dreamboat guy. And I was like, Are you sure you’re actually experiencing this or have you gone crazy without me?” Lumine continued. “Then, he started saying shit like “What if I sleep with him for Christmas, I can just tell, he’s also super attracted to me- like Lumine, he’s just my type.” And I was just saying that maybe he’s delusional by watching all those hallmark Christmas movies.”

“Isn’t your brother suppose to be here too? I thought you two came together. Maybe, he invited him and you could sneak around asking?”

Kunikuzushi wanted to laugh. He never got invested in drama like this, this was truly laughable to him. Do people actually talk about these things? It was interesting to say the least but it was funny to see it in real life rather than movies.

“Or maybe they’re making out, creating future kids, for our abyssal family.” Lumine said sarcastically. She hit Kunikuzushi’s shoulder like they were the siblings instead, and it felt weird being treated like the younger sibling now. He use to do that to Raiden, so he would know what it’s like to just hit your younger sibling randomly.

“Enough about my brother, who’s this loser? Kunikuzushi, right?” Lumine said. Well, Kunikuzushi’s plans for not being seen as a loser went down the drain; at least his name was remembered.

“Nice to know you too, piss hair.” Kunikuzushi said mockingly.

“Lumine, he’s wretched and horrible. I would not recommend ever having a conversation with him, he always argues.” Mona said obviously taking offence to the insult he gave Lumine.

Mona was the same as always. Shit talking him and complaining about him, she use to complain about everything, that Kunikuzushi remembered the most but he got use to it. It wasn’t the worse possible thing.

“I’m only here because of Tartaglia but..as it looks…that fucker ditched me and left me alone. You should know him, he’s the most annoying frat boy on campus.” Kunikuzushi said, shit talking the ginger. Tartaglia was use to it and maybe he should get the hint Kunikuzushi still didn’t want to be his friend, he just tolerated that imbecile. Plus, pulling shit like this made Kunikuzushi not want to be his friend even more.

“At least we share the same idea. He got me to go then my brother. The things that idiot comes up with to get people to come to these things.” Lumine complained, rather to herself than to anyone, but he could relate. He nodded in response.

“Anyways…We can bond about hating Tartaglia together later. Right now, I should go find where in the world did my brother run off to…or if he’s hiding from me. So, I’ll count you on our shit talk later?” Lumine asked, rather stating that they will. Kunikuzushi couldn’t care for the other people she shit talked, but Tartaglia and especially at this moment? Absolutely.

He smiled and watched as the two girls in front of him left. At least he gained another Tartaglia hater to talk shit with. His Aunt, Nahida, probably didn’t want to hear about his university problems when she’s just in kindergarten, though learning 6th grade studies. His family is weird. Really weird.

But, the whole point of him coming here was a fail. He just wanted to see Aether.

And just like that, like his wishes came true. He finally did see Aether and boy, Aether looked so pretty and lively. He wore a dark brown, long sleeved, crop-top that showed his collarbone, black sheer, a black choker with a pendant, and flare blue jeans. It was a basic outfit, it really was, but on Aether it shined like no other.

He was smiling as he held a big tray of food, it looked really good, Aether never cooked often but his cooking was still amazing. His dumbass also wore a silly elf hat. Aether really did seem to get into the festive season more than Kunikuzushi.

What Kunikuzushi didn’t seem to realise is how easily it was to tell he was staring at Aether in the room. The blond turned his head right over to Kunikuzushi, and catching a glimpse of him. There’s no way Kunikuzushi would get caught being here of all places. Too festive, too many people, and a shitty party in general. It wasn’t something up his ally and he’d rather get caught dead than have this to his name. Plus, Aether knew Kunikuzushi didn’t like these types of things, why would he even come? Yeah, Kunikuzushi should be asking himself that.

He found himself a hiding spot, a balcony that this spoiled kids house had. Nobody else was out there so he slipped right out. If Aether asked about tonight, he’d just tell Aether he’s crazy, and then continue his work. Problem solved. Thinking about it, why doesn’t Kunikuzushi just get Aether drunk, spend the night with him, and if Aether asks just tell him, he got drunk, and Kunikuzushi was called out of all people.

He heard some rumbling footsteps and then back to muffled talking and normal party stuff. Waiting a few minutes, and then deciding to exit the quiet balcony. He shouldn’t of even came here, the next time Kunikuzushi sees Tartaglia, he’s not sparing him any mercy.

One empty-ish hallway and not even a minute late. Boom, Crashed right into each other. Kunikuzushi’s luck of tonight was so little.

The blond looked taken back as he stared at Kunikuzushi. Then, he let out a small laugh, putting down the tray of alcoholic beverages as he stared at Kunikuzushi.

“What brings you here, Kuni?” Aether asked as if they were casual towards each other. As if they were actually anything but housemates, not even friends.

Kunikuzushi looked at Aether, then the wall, then the hallway, then outside, back at Aether, up, and then Aether again as he stood there waiting for a reply. Though, something caught Kunikuzushi’s eye. He looked up again quickly and then down trying not to revert Aether’s attention to anything but him. A stupid fucking mistletoe.

“I was bored. A certain idiot also fucking ditched me to who knows where after forcing me to come. At least now I know where the hell you are when you come back at 3 in the morning.” Kunikuzushi replied.

Aether let out a faint giggle of amusement, “So…are you about to ditch this place?”

He rolled his eyes at the obvious question. Does he look like he want to stay? Kunikuzushi already got what he wanted. A look of Aether tonight and to see how his roommate normally acted.

“I rather sleep than be doing this bullshit.”

Aether stepped closer to Kunikuzushi, hands behind his back, and with a stupid smile on his face. Kunikuzushi could just tell he was going to say something that nobody in their right mind would say. Aether tended to be unpredictable to say the least.

“How about, instead of you leaving to hide in your room, you stay here and be with me.” Aether looked so giddy asking the question.

“Have a Merry Christmas, Aether” Kunikuzushi said sarcastically. He turned around but soon grabbed by Aether’s hand, pulling him back into the door way.

Kunikuzushi looked at Aether. Aether’s deceiving, begging eyes. He knew it was just all a trick to get Kunikuzushi in the blond’s favour but it worked— to an extent.

“You forgot something.” Aether said as he grabbed both hands.

Aether looked up and nodded his head upwards making Kunikuzushi glance up. Of course, the mistletoe. Aether always followed these holiday shenanigans and today seemed to be the day Kunikuzushi was pulled into this.

“Aether, I-“

Kunikuzushi was cut off by Aether kissing him. Soft and tasted of sugar cookies lips, oh how Kunikuzushi craved for this. It was stupid, yes, but this was a dream for Kunikuzushi. He wouldn’t be dumb enough to miss this opportunity, he kissed back, and pulled Aether in.

The blond’s sweet laugh cut the two off as he pulled back and looked at Kunikuzushi. He pecked the other’s lips— a smile forming on his mouth.

“Let’s go.” Aether said as he pulled Kunikuzushi away from the door frame and towards where everybody else was.

Kunikuzushi really didn’t want to go. He hated people, parties, and social events. It just wasn’t his thing. But maybe for tonight, his moment with Aether could open opportunities for him, for them, and for Aether, Kunikuzushi was willing to do that.

~♡︎~

It didn’t take long for Kunikuzushi to get drunk; after all he never drunk often. Aether still looked sober after all the drinks they had. After Kunikuzushi got drunk Tartaglia finally showed up but he was still fucking pissed at the ginger.

It felt like everybody was eyeing them but, Kunikuzushi just wanted time with Aether. Little did he know, Aether was a total party go-er. He could barely get drunk and everybody found him so fun to be around. Kunikuzushi couldn’t wrap his head around how lively Aether was. He always seemed quiet and reserved at home, a bit of a tease, but overall peaceful.

Was this the real, Aether? Or was the one back home how he really was? Whatever it was, Kunikuzushi sat more quietly as he watched Aether. He was so pretty. He felt like a bug that could be smooshed into pieces. Perhaps, a bug wasn’t the greatest comparison, Kunikuzushi hated bugs, Kunikuzushi liked Aether.

He grabbed Aether’s waist from behind, watching the blond do whatever. Drinking, talking, playing games, and whatever. Kunikuzushi had a massive headache and he just wanted Aether. Being with Aether was the only thing on his mind.

Kunikuzushi heard Tartaglia and another guy yell at them to kiss, like they were fucking teenagers, but Kunikuzushi didn’t mind. It was he wanted anyways. He heard Aether’s soft laugh, seeing the blond notice how drunk he actually was from the hard liquor. Aether placed Kunikuzushi’s hand on his thigh, lifting him up onto the table, and kissing him. More deeply and passionate this time. Kunikuzushi heard whistles and cheers, it was so annoying to him, he knew this was all a giant game to the others, but did Aether really want to kiss him again like he did?

Aether leaned into Kunikuzushi and then pulling back, getting off the table. Kunikuzushi could barely tell what was going on if he was being honesty. He could just recognise Aether and that’s what was fine with him.

“You can go back home now. You’re practically falling asleep already.” Aether whispered into Kunikuzushi’s ear.

Leaving Aether? No way. He clung onto Aether and put his head into the crescent of Aether’s neck. Aether let out a small giggle— brushing his fingers through Kunikuzushi’s hair. This was so peaceful to Kunikuzushi. Aether and him, preferably not in the best of spots to do this, but it’s what he wanted.

Aether turned around, letting Kunikuzushi do whatever, and smiled at the group. “Few more rounds, okay?” He said as he started filling up his cup again.

~♡︎~

Somehow, Aether managed to get drunk with how high his tolerance is. He giggled as he sat on Kunikuzushi’s lap, holding him like a giant stuff animal that you only see in those Christmas ads. Kunikuzushi was also clinging onto him and to Aether’s surprise, Kunikuzushi looked like he was about to cry.

“Aether, I love you- so, so, so, much-“ he hiccuped as he hugged Aether tighter, “I wish you were mine.”

Everybody else was already passed out or went home, they were just sitting on the couch waiting for their Uber because Kunikuzushi insisted on going back to their shared apartment.

“Kunnni~” Aether let out a small whine as he kissed and bit at Kunikuzushi’s neck. “You’re so cute…like a cat. Do the things cats do.”

Without a second thought behind it, “Meow.” Kunikuzushi said as he hugged Aether tighter, making the blond burst into laughter.

They entered a moment of silence as they laughed off Kunikuzushi’s silly words. Kunikuzushi held onto Aether as Aether pet his hair, and Aether gazed out at the window. Aether was humming the small Christmas tunes playing in the background, rocking back and forth, and closing his eyes. Kunikuzushi could smell how sweet Aether smelled, he wondered if Aether could smell his cologne too.

Aether got up as he grabbed Kunikuzushi’s hand, “We should wait outside.” He said as Kunikuzushi got up with Aether.

Aether went over to the door and opened it slowly, not trying to be too loud so he wouldn’t wake others up, and getting blasted with the freezing air. Kunikuzushi went to grab the long coat he brought and seeing how Aether shivered from the cold. He was blushing intently as he put the coat around Aether’s shoulders. Kunikuzushi was already covered enough but Aether was quite showy.

The blond laughed as he leaned in for another kiss, wrapping the belt around his waist to make it tighter. Kunikuzushi’s shoulders were a bit broader than Aether’s so it was a bit bigger than Aether. Kunikuzushi found it cute when Aether was wearing his clothes. He loved Aether so much. How did he not even realise how much he obsessed over his roommate?

Maybe it was a sign, Aether was more quiet when he was really himself. Maybe Aether was just trying to get Kunikuzushi to like him too. It felt ridiculous but it all made sense. Aether being quiet because Kunikuzushi liked it, Aether teasing, and then Aether always liking the stuff Kunikuzushi did for him. Wow, Kunikuzushi felt so dumb. So oblivious. It was perfectly right in front of him.

Kunikuzushi grabbed onto Aether and placed a small forehead kiss on him. Aether smiled as he pulled on Kunikuzushi’s sleeve, “I should of kissed you sooner.” He said, pulling Kunikuzushi into a hug, clinging onto him.

“I wish we could of done this privately…and at home. I want to go home, with you, and go in my bed.” He said as leaned both of them on the open door frame of the front door, not thinking too much about the cold air being let into the house.

“I’m sleeping in you’re bed tonight, mhm…” Aether mumbled, pulling them outside the house, and closing the door.

They stood in the driveway, holding each other closely, as they waited for their Uber. The overbearing loud music could still be heard from outdoors and annoying Kunikuzushi. It felt like a ringing in his ear. So overly annoying.

Aether tapped Kunikuzushi, giggling to himself, while he looked up.

“It’s snowing..” Aether Said Holding his hand out to have the snow fall into this hand.

“It’s the end of December. Of course it’s snowing-“ He said. Aether looked at him as the snow fell down gracefully onto Aether’s head. Aether looked at Kunikuzushi like he was asking for Kunikuzushi to apologise. “But, it’s pretty.” Aether clapped his hands as he swung himself around Kunikuzushi.

Aether grabbed Kunikuzushi’s hand as he spun himself around the male, a bright smile plastered on his face, dancing himself around Kunikuzushi stupidly.

“Kuni-“ Aether laughed, Kunikuzushi not picking up what Aether wanted at all. “It’s snowing and….we’re a couple so, we should do those cute things. That people do in the snow. Like with us. Together.” he said nervously.

Kunikuzushi paused as he heard the words from Aether’s mouth. Couple. Relationship? His cheeks turned a warm red that could battle how cold it was outside. He looked in awe at Aether, grabbing the blond’s hand, pulling him in, tilting him down, and kissing him.

Just how shocked Kunikuzushi was a few seconds ago, Aether also was shocked from Kunikuzushi’s reaction. The male was soft to the touch, Aether could feel the heat from Kunikuzushi’s face as it spread to his, and he wrapped his arms around Kunikuzushi’s neck.

They pulled back from each other and Kunikuzushi grabbed onto Aether’s hands. His hands were much warmer than Aether could imagine. They even felt sweaty even though it was freezing out. Aether was sure his hands felt the same.

“Don’t- Don’t make fun of me, okay? I haven’t done this in years. I’ll only do it for you.” Kunikuzushi said as he guided Aether to match his footsteps. He couldn’t remember the steps but he was sure he could figure something out for Aether. He didn’t take dance classes for nothing when he was younger at least. Kunikuzushi was sure he was trembling— be from the cold or how ridiculous this was.

Aether let out a small laugh, “I should marry you. Soon as possible. You’re so-“ he cut himself off as he tried to focus on his feet. Both of them were tumbling and tripping over their feet, stepping on each other’s feet, and even falling on each other.

It didn’t help how icy it was on the driveway either, it felt like they were tossing each other back and forth but, their soft laughs filled the night in the blanket of white. Or mostly Aether’s and Kunikuzushi was complaining. Aether found his complaining even more humorous, which made him laugh even more, and that made Kunikuzushi compliment Aether more. Kunikuzushi was criticising himself; he was obsessed with Aether.

Aether’s breath was shown in the snow as he gazed into Kunikuzushi’s eyes, heavy breathing, and his cheeks tinted pink. No matter what season, what Aether wore, what Aether did, Aether always glistened to Kunikuzushi. Kunikuzushi wanted to capture everything about Aether. To have him forever.

“Aether, can I call you mine this year?”

~♡~

The way home was a blur in Kunikuzushi’s head. He laid in his bed, Aether on the bottom of him, and kissing him. His hands were roaming Aether and Aether was grabbing his face with both hands. He didn’t know how they even ended up like this at all, it was complete shambles in what happened after they left.

Aether’s body rolled into his and Kunikuzushi loved how Aether felt but, he sincerely couldn’t do this. Not tonight at least. He pulled back as Aether looked up at him in confusion.

“Am I doing something wrong?” Aether said as he could feel the way Kunikuzushi felt hesitant. Maybe it was the way Aether never saw Kunikuzushi hesitant in anything, so it was concerning, if maybe, it was himself.

“Yes. No. No. This is- this feels wrong.” Kunikuzushi slapped himself. What was he saying? “I have a headache. I feel like shit right now but, I do want you.” He heard himself saying such sappy shit. His mind was foggy. He didn’t even know what was happening if he was being honest.

Aether took a moment of silence and nodded. Whatever he was thinking, he needed to think, hoping he wouldn’t fuck up this moment too. He grabbed Kunikuzushi’s face, brushing the strands of fallen hair out of his face, “It’s fine. We don’t have to do this tonight. I’m fine with it. Just at least, make sure this night isn’t a painful dream during the holidays. Make it my actual wish to be true.”

Aether pushed Kunikuzushi’s head into the crevice of his neck. Kunikuzushi knew what he meant. Even if his head wasn’t thinking with him. Kunikuzushi knew Aether was also drunk this night and he didn’t want to forget. He wanted a sign that this night did happen. That it wasn’t an illusion. A dream. A lie. A hoax. That was something Kunikuzushi could comply with.

This felt surreal to Kunikuzushi. The way he licked Aether’s neck, the warmth of their shared house, the blond grabbing onto him with his eyes closed, like he was also scared, and the faint scent of cinnamon and cranberry coming from Aether. Of course he bought a scent similar to Christmas. He was always a festive person in Kunikuzushi’s mind. Though, it did smell quite good to Kunikuzushi.

Kunikuzushi bit onto Aether’s neck, his skin so delicate, and easily forming a hickey. Something in Kunikuzushi felt so special that he got to create a mark on Aether. It was a completely different colour than Aether, it shown so vividly in Kunikuzushi’s eyes, it was his and on Aether, the spot he made was on Aether. It started as Aether wanting it but now Kunikuzushi wanted to litter it all over Aether. To show Aether was now his and nobody could take Aether away from him.

From one, to two, to three, to four, to five, and then Kunikuzushi lost count. Aether’s small whines, muffled moans, and small praise to Kunikuzushi made Kunikuzushi want to keep going. He felt like he was doing such a great job, how Aether kept rewarding him with reactions and praises.

He wanted to keep going, to know all of Aether, and that every part of him is his. He wanted to keep Aether so pleased, like it was his job to, and his one and only desire. Kunikuzushi never expected how much he’d loved this. How he loved treating Aether like was a possession, his possession, and he could do this, while nobody else can. He’s showing his wonderful work to everybody, that Aether wasn’t anybody else’s but his.

Aether laughed at Kunikuzushi’s kisses, like he was adoring a god in front of him, and absolutely cherishing a god. It was another side of Kunikuzushi that Aether never saw but he could get use to.

“Oh god, Kuni…You can stop now.” Aether said, patting Kunikuzushi’s head, and running his fingers through his botched hair.

He pulled back from Aether’s neck as he gazed at Aether, the gazing of lovestruck.
“Am I doing something wrong?” He said, feeling like they just switched roles.

“Not at all.” Aether mumbled, Kunikuzushi’s head resting on Aether’s chest. “I’m just tired. It’s nearly 4 in the morning.”

Kunikuzushi nodded the best he can while his head stayed on Aether’s chest. He listened to Aether’s beating heart, it was rapid, even though the calm exterior, Aether’s heartbeat was so fast. Kunikuzushi could tell Aether fell asleep soon after his words. It was calming. Somebody else in his bed was so comfy. Aether in his bed was so comfy.

The dim light that fell into his bedroom from the Christmas tree in the living room and the candle that was on his desk. Kunikuzushi didn’t even notice how Aether’s hair was undone and how messy it was too. Kunikuzushi observed Aether, how the blond’s chest fell up and down, how his lips were slightly open, and his long lashes.

Kunikuzushi noticed how they were wearing the same thing from the party, probably too dumb to even change clothes when they entered, and maybe it was dumb to not change it now but he wouldn’t move even if it killed him right now. Taking a close look of Aether he saw small scars on his hands, it wasn’t anything terrible, but they were still there. The birthmark on Aether’s shoulder, it wasn’t too big, nor too small, and even the things you would call imperfect on Aether’s skin. Kunikuzushi loved every single part.

The way Aether’s hair fell in his face, to how his hands were slim, and to how overall smaller he was in compared to Kunikuzushi. Aether was taller, sure, but overall, he was smaller. Kunikuzushi wanted to hold him in his arms forever.

~♡~

Kunikuzushi heard small giggles as he opened his eyes for the first time in the morning. It was angelic to his ears. He felt the bed shake as the person turned towards him and kiss him on the lips.

Gold. His eyes tried adjusting and saw golden hair. He really almost forgot. Aether and him. Right, the night before. Whatever he felt on that night was even more painful. His burning headache and tiredness was livid.

“Sleep well?” Aether said to him as he obviously felt super giddy.

“Fucking fantastic. Glad you can see that I’m doing great.” Kunikuzushi said sarcastically. In reality, his sleep was wonderful but, at this moment his hangover wasn’t.

Aether let out an amused hum, his feet kicking, while he waited for Kunikuzushi to fully wake up.

“What do you want?” Kunikuzushi said as he rubbed his eyes, still not fully awake, and trying to suppress his dying hangover.

Aether sat both of them up and leaned Kunikuzushi back on the wall. He quickly ran out of the room, Kunikuzushi hearing a ruckus being caused in the kitchen. He thought about closing the door and to lock Aether out, to maybe forget his embarrassing drunk stories, but he decided not to. Aether came back into the room with a tray of food and a small present on the side of the small table.

Kunikuzushi never tried Aether’s cooking. It was usually Kunikuzushi making food for Aether, not the other way around. So Kunikuzushi was somewhat excited to see if the blond could cook or not. He played the tray on Kunikuzushi’s lap, with a cup of tea, and medicine. At least Aether knew Kunikuzushi had a hangover.

Aether watched as Kunikuzushi take a bite out of his food in anticipation. Aether didn’t have the worst food in Kunikuzushi’s standard. It wasn’t bad at all actually.

“It’s okay. Guess this is one of the few things you’re good at.” He said as he took another bite and then downing the tea and medicine. “What’s that for?” Kunikuzushi pointed at the small gift as he ate the food served to him.

“It’s for you. Since it’s Christmas after all.” Aether said as he held the gift in his hands. It was sweet to look at to say the least even if Kunikuzushi didn’t like how happy this holiday was still.

Kunikuzushi put his hand out, waiting for the small gift to be handed to him. Aether shook his head as he pushed Kunikuzushi’s hand away, “After you eat.”

Kunikuzushi nodded as he finished the food quickly without even noticing it. Aether removed the tray from his lap and sat himself onto Kunikuzushi’s lap while still holding the gift. Aether didn’t say much but Kunikuzushi could tell he was doing something. Suspiciously too.

He peeked over Aether’s shoulder seeing Irmun-gram on his phone. It was the usual before he looked at his own account. The last post being from last night and of them. Of course they did something stupid like that.

“Are you going to delete that?” Kunikuzushi asked as he tried the least physical contact with Aether as possible. He knows he was probably being clingy when drunk, but in honest now that they’re both sober, he doesn’t know how far he can go with touching Aether.

“Mhm, No. I actually wanted to show you all the pictures and videos we took from last night. Surprising I don’t remember doing any of that.” Aether said as he put his knees to his chest. Seems he also changed clothing. “You also posted on your account. I think it’s cute.”

“How the hell do you know? You’re stalking my socials?” Kunikuzushi said as he leaned over as Aether showed his profile.

“Yeah. On my meme page, I wanted to know more about you when I first saw you.” Aether hummed, pointing towards it, “And Tartaglia somehow got this video of us.”

Kunikuzushi watched the small clips that the ginger managed to capture of the two. It was absolutely embarrassing. Kunikuzushi spitting out how he loved Aether, them kissing on the couch, and then how they held each other in the kitchen, stupidly flirting together. He doesn’t even remember where the hell Tartaglia was in the midst of him and Aether from what he remembers.
Maybe Kunikuzushi should of kept Aether out of his room after all.

Aether turned around and closed his phone, leaning in to kiss Kunikuzushi. It surprised the hell out of Kunikuzushi from how sudden it was. He didn’t know what to do. Aether was kissing Kunikuzushi but he froze. He barely remembered the night before but his roommate was now kissing him.

“Is it all over?” Aether asked his face centimetres away from Kunikuzushi. Aether’s hair fell in between the two making Kunikuzushi only see Aether.

“I don’t think we finished what we started last night.” Kunikuzushi replied kissing Aether back. He felt more in his right mind now, he could do anything he wanted since Aether was giving him the opening. The only problem is sober Kunikuzushi couldn’t react quick enough to Aether like usual.

Aether smiled in the kiss as he wrapped his arms around Kunikuzushi’s neck. Kunikuzushi remembered the hickeys he left on Aether, how they scattered on his neck, and sunk into him. The remembrance that Aether was his.

With that, Aether pulled back, obviously happy with the response, and then handing the small box to Kunikuzushi.

Kunikuzushi didn’t know what he was expecting but he was honestly excited for what Aether got him. Kunikuzushi never got a gift in years. The only gift he ever got after the age of 15 was from his Aunt Nahida. It was never yearly though. So usually, he spent it alone.

He undid the small ribbon on top as Aether watched him, awaiting Kunikuzushi’s reaction. From the small box was a necklace with a moon pendant. It was completely silver, so it was something Kunikuzushi liked, only small jewels were on it.

Aether was blushing as he pulled out the matching necklace from under his shirt. His was a sun that was gold instead of silver. Both of their necklaces had their named carved on their back. It was truly a thoughtful gift.

Kunikuzushi hummed as he put it on himself and then looked at both of them wearing stupid matching necklaces. “I don’t have anything for you.”

Aether moved the box out of the way and kissed Kunikuzushi again. Aether flipped the necklace pendant over so there was an area of Kunikuzushi’s necklace that fit perfectly. Aether’s necklace was the full matching piece. The moon area even had Kunikuzushi’s name on it. Aether that sly dog, making a matching necklace, but if he didn’t tell Kunikuzushi it was matching Kunikuzushi would of never known.

“It’s fine. I think you as my gift is good enough for the holidays.” Aether said as he hugged Kunikuzushi in a tight embrace.

A hug. A warm hug. Matching necklaces. Kisses. Aether. Kunikuzushi could get use to this.
