"Are you nervous?"
Narda asked Regina as they sit in traffic on the way to where the gala is being held. The car is moving slowly and it is not at all helping with Regina's nerves.
The gala was for heads of philantrophic foundations all over the world. When Regina received the invitation, she felt honored to be included. Then when she found out that Lena Luthor is one of the philanthropists being awarded, she squealed uncharacteristically which Narda heard even from the other side of the city. Her girlfriend burst through her office balcony looking anxiously around the room before her eyes landed on her. The young attorney told her what happened and Narda's beaming smile made everything so real.
She's going to meet Lena Luthor.
"I'm fine." Regina assured her girlfriend. Narda only quirked an eyebrow and looked at her. "Okay. Maybe I am a little bit nervous." she admitted.
Narda shifted to face her fully and took her hands, "You're brilliant and amazing. A damn good attorney and a hero in your own right. You deserve to be here." She paused to give her an encouraging smile, "Anyone will be lucky to meet you. And when Lena Luthor does, I have no doubt that she's going to love you. Just like the rest of us lucky people who knows you." She ended her sentiment with featherlight kisses on each of her knuckles.
Regina's heart felt too large in her chest. How did she get so lucky in life? She must have been doing something right to be here in this moment with the love of her life.
Regina was suddenly overcome with the urge to kiss her girlfriend. So she did just that. She felt Narda smile into the kiss. What was supposed to be soft and chaste kiss has quickly turned hot and heavy in seconds. Frantic hands grabbing whatever they could hold on to. Little moans and answering groans from both of them.
A soft but insistent knock startled them both apart. Breaths heavy and hearts pounding, they turned to the window and saw their driver. His face sheepish from interrupting them but still managed to mouth, "We're here, ma'am."
They nodded at him before turning to each other. They both had shy smiles which turned into giggles at the slightly embarrassing moment.
"How do I look?" Regina asked while fixing her outfit.
"Gorgeous like the goddess that you are." Narda's quick reply.
"Shut up. I'm serious."
Narda reached for her hair and gently fixed it. "There. Not a hair out of place." She gave her a cheeky grin. "Your lips are a little bit swollen though, but I'm kinda happy about it."
"And why is that?"
"Because then the people inside will know that I, the person who'll be in your arms tonight, put it there."
Narda gave her an all too charming wink that the only thing Regina could do is to chuckle at her girlfriend's antics. "You're shameless."
"You love me anyway." Narda took her hand and squeezed before opening the door.
"Ready?"
"As I'll ever be."
The event was in full swing when they enter. A soft jazz music became the background to the conversations happening all around between friends and strangers meeting for the first time. Flashy suits and fancy dresses completes the whole picture. The young couple fits right in.
Regina wore a perfectly tailored tight black pants, paired with a deep green button-down shirt that was cut so low, the first button didn't start until right between her breast. A form-fitting black blazer and high heels completed the ensemble.
Meanwhile, Narda is wearing a long, forest green dress, cinched at her waist and coming up to her shoulders in a fairly high neckline, the straps incredibly thin. It's a backless dress, cut almost down to her tailbone, completely open. A little cutout was added with a long slit up the side, far above her knee, which showed off her leg when she walked.
Regina remembered calling it deliciously sinful when Narda walked out of the bathroom. They almost didn't make it out of the door on time because neither of them could keep their hands off each other.
Regina picked up two flutes of champagne from a passing waiter. She handed one to Narda and sipped the other in hopes to loosen her nerves.
With her arm around her girlfriend's waist, they started walking around the room. The young attorney knew most of the names in attendance. A few of them she's already been acquainted and some she only knew from news articles and magazines. Unsurprisingly, Narda never seems to shy away from introductions but instead thrives in it. She feels a little proud and also a little bit turned on at her quiet confidence.
While they were going around, Regina was also craning her head to look for the woman she'd been excited to meet ever since she got the invitation. She knows that the married power couple had already arrived since she heard snippets of conversations about them.
"Kara!"
Regina snapped her attention back at Narda's call. She looked at the direction Narda has called out to and saw Kara, looking absolutely beautiful in a royal blue dress. Their hero friend's face lighting up when she saw them.
"Narda! Regina!" Kara excitedly bounded over to them and they met her halfway. "Oh, It's nice to see you two again." She said while enveloping them both in hug.
"The feeling is mutual." Narda said as the hug ended.
"Oh, you just missed my wife. Lena's about to make her acceptance speech." At that, all three of them looked toward the stage.
And there, standing behind the glass podium, dressed immaculately in black, is Lena Luthor. She looked every bit of the regal and sophisticated brilliant woman that she is.
Regina knows she's missing the speech but she consciously stayed in a trance looking up at her childhood hero. All too quickly, she was brought back to the present as loud applause erupted in the room. She saw Lena looked towards their direction and smiled lovingly at her wife. Kara mirrored her wife's expression but also with a hint of pride. Lena came down from the stage and walked towards them. Regina felt Narda squeeze her hand.
"You okay? You're shaking." she whispered.
Regina nodded and squeezed her girlfriend's hand back. "I'm just really excited."
When Lena reached them, the first thing she did was wrapped her arm around Kara's waist. She smiled up at her, then reached up to give her wife a kiss. The moment felt very magical and Regina can't believe she's witnessing it in person.
"Hello, you must be Regina." Lena said and offered a hand for her to shake.
Regina would be embarrassed to admit but she definitely froze in the moment.
"I- um."
"I think you broke her." Narda teased, but she softly squeezed Regina's hand for support.
"Hi, yes! That's me. I'm sorry I'm not usually like this. It's just that you're one of my heroes, and this feels surreal." Regina is definitely fangirling now.
Kara grinned, "I get it. I feel like that everyday whenever I see her, and I'm married to her. You'd think that would dull the feeling but it just get stronger everyday."
"You're such a sap."
"You love it." Kara said with a wink. "Anyway, this is Narda and Regina."
"Congratulations on the award, Mrs. Luthor." Regina greeted.
"Please, just call me Lena. Mrs. Luthor gives me the chills and it's not the good kind."
"Then it's an honor to finally meet you, Lena."
"Likewise. And I've been so looking forward to meet you." She paused and leaned in a bit before whispering, "Ever since Kara told me she met a half-alien superhero and a snake woman in one of her adventures."
They didn't get to spend much time with the married couple as much as Regina would've wanted. Everyone seems to want a piece of them and she gets it. They did made plans to have lunch the next day at the couple's home, which basically completed Regina's night.
When tomorrow came, Regina was both nervous and excited. She woke up early, which annoyed her 'not-a-morning person' girlfriend. Narda wanted her morning cuddles but Regina was too full of buzzing energy to stay in bed.
When they're at the front door of the Luthor-Danvers mansion, Regina has somewhat calmed down. She only hoped that she could talk to Lena and not pass out. She can do this.
Narda raised her hand to knock, but before she could, the door opened.
Kara greeted them with a brilliant smile. "Hi! Come in. Welcome to our home."
"You have a beautiful home." Regina praised.
Kara beamed at that. "Thanks. The designs are all Lena but I keep it clean since I can do it quickly."
"Ha! Same, I do that too. But Regina still cleans up after me because she want certain things on certain places."
"It just makes sense, Narda." The young attorney jokingly rolled her eyes at her girlfriend.
"Yes, dear."
Lena appeared around the corner with a teasing smile. "I see Narda has already learned one of the secrets of the universe."
The group laughed at that. "Keep it up and you just might unlock some special powers." She added and winked at the young heroine.
Narda blushed a beautiful shade of pink. All Regina could think is how adorable her girlfriend is and how she fell a little more in love with her in that moment.
Their lunch was great. The food that Lena prepared was excellent. They exchanged battle stories and each couple shared their triumphs and losses. Regina and Narda told the older couple how they finally got together, which Kara jokingly took credit for. Though the young hero did genuinely thank her for giving her the push she needed to pursue Regina.
When Lena was bringing out the dessert, loud sirens was ringing out around the city.
Kara was the first to move. "There's a building on fire at the business center. It's in the middle floors and there are still people on the top floors."
She's already on her super suit when she finished telling them what's happening.
"Can I help?" Narda immediately asked as the caped hero was preparing to leave.
Supergirl grinned. "I was counting on it."
Narda quickly transformed to her superpowered alter-ego. Darna walked up to Regina and kissed her forehead. "I'll be back."
"Be careful."
"Always."
The two heroes shot up to the skies while the remaining women stared in silence as they watch them disappear on the horizon.
"Does it ever stop? The worrying." Regina broke the silence and throws a worried glance at Lena.
"No." Lena lets out a deep sigh. Then she faced Regina with a comforting smile as she continued, "Not because I don't trust her. It's because, life is unpredictable. Anything could happen."
"I know that. You have no idea how many times I've threatened Narda that if she gets herself killed, I'd find a way to bring her back so I could kill her myself."
"Oh, trust me, I have my own set of threats." Lena responded with a smirk.
They both laugh at themselves, forgetting their worries for a moment. A blaring siren interrupted them as another firetruck drove by. They followed it with a look until it disappeared.
"You know," Lena started. "Loving a superhero surely has it's ups and downs. Worrying is part of the package. But you learn to handle it better over time." she assured.
"You'll just have to trust that she'll come home to you, no matter what. And that you'll be there waiting for her. Always."
-----
Lena Luthor was having a normal day at work when she saw the little green envelope. She fished it from beneath a file of folders and caught a whiff of a familiar perfume as she inspects it. She opened it and saw a rose-colored paper. She took the letter out and smiled as she saw the combined symbols on top. Printed in gold, she beamed in delight as she read the invitation and a hand-written note.
To our dear friends, Kara and Lena:
It's finally happening! We're getting married! Narda and I are both thankful for the friendship and advices you've given us. It made us stronger together. So we would really love it if you can come to our wedding and celebrate with us. See you!
Lots of love,
Regina and Narda
P.S. I know Narda has already thanked you for helping her make the engagement ring, so this is from me, THANK YOU SO MUCH! It is the second most exquisite thing I've ever received in my life. - Regina
Lena finished reading the note with the biggest smile on her face. She feels happy for her friends who's finally getting the happy ending they very much deserve and hopefully, the beginning of the rest of their lives. She took her phone and dialed her wife's number.
"Hello, darling. We need to find a perfect wedding gift."
