To Kill a Deer

Summary:

Day 4 of Trainwreck week

Ingo and Emmet live alone together in the woods until Ingo mistaken angers a powerful fairy.

Work Text:

Emmet wandered through the woods, calling for his brother. The sun was already getting low and Ingo was missing. He and Emmet lived together in a small cottage, Emmet did the farming while Ingo hunted for meat. Today he didn't come back from his morning hunt and Emmet was worried.

He came to a small clearing and found a white deer, one of Ingo's arrows sticking out of it. Emmet studied the corpse, it was still warm, meaning Ingo had to be close. He heard a noise nearby and as he breached the bushes he saw his brother tangled up in brambles, unconscious.

"Ingo!" Emmet shouted, rushing over.

A figure stepped inbetween Emmet and his brother, holding his palm out to stop him. He was tall and gorgeous, with long blonde hair that went past his shoulders and covered one eye. On his back were a pair of massive fluffy white wings that looked like they could have been made out of clouds. Emmet knew what he was, one of the fae.

"Stop right there. This one belongs to me now." The fae said.

"Ingo is my brother! He doesn't belong to anyone!" Emmet said.

"He killed one of my precious deers. He must pay the price." The man sneered.

Emmet fell to his knees in front of the brambles. Panic filled his eyes. His one and only brother, taken from him. Suddenly the answer came to him.

"Take me instead!" Emmet insisted.

"Why should I take you over him?" The fae responded.

"We are identical twins. It would be a fair trade. Please, he is all I have." Emmet pleaded.

"...Fine." The fairy snapped his fingers and Ingo was released.

Emmet grabbed his brother before he hit the ground. Ingo blinked as he woke up.

"Emmet?" Ingo asked softly.

Emmet rubbed the tears from his eyes and gave Ingo a false smile, "Ingo, you're okay. You're alright."

A golden collar appeared on Emmet's neck. The fae stood over him, grinning at his new pet.

"No, wait!" Ingo said.

"Quiet. He already agreed to take your place. I'm not going to keep trading one for the other." The man said.

"It's going to be okay, Ingo. We will make this work somehow. I'll find my way back." Emmet said, tears coming back.

Ingo shook his head, tears pricking his eyes. "Please, Emmet why did you do this? It was my fault."

"Because I love you." Emmet replied.

A whirlwind snapped Emmet up. He shut his eyes and shielded his face. When the winds died down he was in an unfamiliar place. A small cottage in a lush field of flowers, far brighter and more beautiful than he ever could imagine. Deer happily grazed on grasses, squirrels ran about the trees, birds sang the most wonderful songs. Such a sight would normally bring Emmet joy but now it filled him with despair. He wept into his hands, afraid he would never see his brother again.

A hand touched his head and pet him gently. He glared up at the fae who smirked down at him.

"You have beautiful eyes. I think I made the right choice taking you instead," He hummed.

"You're a monster." Emmet spat.

"Oh hush. If you behave I will let you visit your brother every now and then." The fae said, casually waving his hand.

Emmet blinked, "Do... do you mean that?"

"The fae can't lie. Only bend words. So I'll be very clear. If you behave yourself I will take you to see your brother before next spring." The fae explained, waggling a finger at him.

"Why are you being nice to me?" Emmet asked, still not trusting the creature.

"Because having a miserable pet is no fun. I want you to enjoy having me as your master. You may call me Volo by the way. Now, your name?" Volo requested.

"Emmet." Emmet said softly.

Volo put a hand under Emmet's chin and lifted his face to meet his eyes. "Emmet... a good name. Come along, Emmet, let me show you where you will be staying."

Volo lead Emmet to his house, it was small and cozy on the inside. There was an old kitchen with copper pots, a small fire place, a pile of cushions, blankets and feathers that looked like a nest. But the most noticeable thing was the books. Every surface was covered in books.

"I don't have a guest bed so you can sleep with me. It is very comfortable." Volo said pointing to the nest. "Also has the benefit that my scent will get all over you quickly and the animals won't be afraid of you."

"You must enjoy reading." Emmet said, sitting and sinking into the nest.

"Most fae think I'm crazy but I love studying things." Volo mused.

Volo suddenly grabbed the blankets and rubbed them all over Emmet. Emmet flailed as he was bundled up and throughly scrubbed by fabric.

"You smell so bad!" Volo winced, "Why must humans smell this way. Let me make you some food. You need to eat fairy food so you can stay here."

Volo stood and went to the kitchen, putting a pot on the stove and grabbing some potatoes from a storage bin. Emmet freed himself of his blanket knot and saw that Volo's house had little pathways in it for smaller creatures. A bunny peaked its head out of a hole to look at him and a large owl leaned down to gaze into his eyes.

"You... really like animals." Emmet said.

"They are my only friends." Volo said, chopping up a carrot with a bone knife. "Something you would understand seeing as you said all you had was you brother. All I have is them."

"...That's why you were so mad about the deer." Emmet murmured.

Volo slammed the knife into his cutting board and glared at Emmet. He could see grief behind the anger in his eyes.

"I'm sorry." Emmet whispered out.

Volo looked away and continued cooking. Emmet sank deeper into the blanket pile and stared at the ceiling. So much had happened so fast he was having trouble processing it all. Before long Volo was in front of him with a bowl of soup.

"Here, eat this. I'm going to draw you a bath." Volo said.

Emmet took the soup and began to eat. It was good and warmed his belly, giving him a little comfort. Volo came back and took the empty bowl.

"Good?" Volo asked.

"Yes." Emmet answered softly.

"Let's get you clean then." Volo said taking Emmet's hand.

He lead him to a large wooden tub, showing him where the soaps were along with the towels. Volo left some pajamas for him as well. Emmet felt oddly comforted, a feeling he fought. The man had separated him from Ingo he shouldn't be feeling cozy. The water was hot and soothed his muscles, he hoped Ingo was finding some comfort at home. He exited the bathroom and went back to the nest, this time finding his captor sitting inside with a book.

"Let me smell you." Volo stood and sniffed Emmet. "Hmmm... still there but better."

Volo grabbed Emmet and fell backward into the nest. Emmet flailed a bit as they landed in the pile of cushions. Volo held him to his chest and started running his fingers through his hair.

"Stay close to me, you'll smell like mine soon enough." Volo purred.

Emmet glared up at him but the sensation was wonderful. Volo's nails scratched his scalp gently as his fingers combed his hair. Emmet, emotionally exhausted, closed his eyes and drifted off with his cheek pressed to the fae's chest.

The next few months where a blurr. Emmet learned Volo really only had animals as friends. He would talk to them and though they couldn't speak it was clear they understood him perfectly. He would keep them safe in his glen, letting them roam free and happy. Everyday they would forage for food. Volo had a large garden that put Emmet's back home to shame. They would prepare meals and then relax by reading or enjoying the forest.

If not for the circumstances, Emmet would have greatly enjoyed it, especially at night. Every night Volo would pull Emmet close and run his fingers through his hair or rub his sore muscles, if they had worked hard that day. When they had gotten set in this routine Volo started to add little whispers of praise, telling Emmet he was a lovely pet or a handsome man. Emmet felt intoxicated by his words.

One morning they woke up to a terrible storm, the winds howled and the rain blew so hard they couldn't see out the windows.

"Well my pet, we are stuck in here for the day." Volo said.

Emmet's smile turned down a bit and he flopped back into the nest. "Guess we will read."

Volo sank in next to him, pulling Emmet into an embrace as he always did. "...I don't want to read."

"You don't?" Emmet looked at Volo with confusion. Reading was all Volo did.

Volo lowered his eyes. "No... not today."

"What do you want to do then?" Emmet asked.

Volo's cheeks were dusted with pink. He tilted Emmet's face up and brushed the slightest kiss against his lips. Emmet sat up in shock, his entire face going red.

Volo looked away, "Too early for that, huh?"

"You want to kiss me?" Emmet whispered confused, covering his mouth.

Volo looked back at him with a smirk. "Yes, my darling pet. You seem to love it when I cuddle and praise you. I thought you might enjoy this too."

Emmet licked his lips behind his hands. Volo waited for Emmet's reaction, the two staring deep into eachother's eyes. Finally Emmet sat back down and awkwardly kissed Volo again.

"Good pet~" Volo hummed.

His lips were sweet like honey. The two explored eachother's mouths, the kiss slow and lazy. The storm raged on and they became comfortable with eachother. Volo started running his hands under Emmet's shirt, making him arch his back. Emmet pressed his forehead to Volo's as he hesitated on what to do next.

"We shouldn't. I shouldn't." Emmet mumbled.

"Why not?" Volo asked, his hands still exploring.

"You know why." Emmet hissed.

"I wanted to be closer to you." Volo said.

"Why?"

"...Because you're the only person I've ever felt this way about." Volo responded.

Emmet was shocked. "You love me?"

Volo pulled away a bit, unable to look at Emmet's face. "I do. But not just that. You're the first person to actually spend time with me, who enjoys reading with me. You make my house feel warm instead of cold and lonely."

Volo's words dripped in isolation, the sadness and loneliness was overwhelming. The silence between them felt endless as Emmet processed what Volo said. Slowly he pressed their lips back together, and lifted the front of Volo's shirt to touch his stomach. Volo wrapped his arms around Emmet's neck, clinging to him as their kiss continued. They stayed like that till the storm let up, limbs tangled in a tight embrace.

"I have to pee but I don't want to get up." Emmet grumbled into Volo's wing.

Volo laughed and shifted. "Go pee."

Emmet stood, already missing Volo's warmth.

"I'm not going anywhere Emmet." Volo said.

Emmet left for the bathroom and tried to be quick.

The days that followed they got even close. Mornings were spent giving eachother little kisses and playing with eachother's hair. They held hands while walking together and would sneak up on eachother to surprise them with a hug or a kiss. Fall came, Volo made a wool cloak for Emmet to wear. On the day their last fall crops were harvested Emmet felt something burning in his stomach. A brand new desire. He watched Volo as he cut free the last cabbage in the garden and swallowed hard.

"Emmet are you alright? Your face is all red." Volo noted, coming over to him.

Emmet took a deep breath, "Volo I... I want." He didn't know how to ask for this.

"You can tell me anything pet. It's okay." Volo reassured him.

"Lets have sex!" Emmet shouted, startling a few birds in a bush.

Volo stared in awe of Emmet's outburst and then held back a laugh. His cheeks turned red as he went over to Emmet to hold his hands and give him a kiss. "I thought you would never ask." Volo purred.

"Were you waiting for me to?" Emmet said, face still flushed with embarrassment.

Volo nodded, "A little yes. I wanted it to be when you were ready."

Emmet's face continued to mimic a tomato, making Volo laugh.

"Come. Let's enjoy ourselves." Volo said, pulling Emmet by the hand.

Volo lead them back inside and soon the two had fallen back onto the nest. Volo stared lovingly up into Emmet's eyes, pushing his bangs out of his face.

"My adorable, precious pet." Volo cooed. Emmet blushed, looking away from Volo. Volo sat up and pulled Emmet into an embrace. "Don't be scared. You want this."

"I do..." Emmet whispered into Volo's shoulder.

"Take it." Volo whispered back. "Take me and claim me as your own. Mark me as yours as I have marked you."

Emmet opened his mouth and bit into Volo's neck, making him gasp out a high pitched moan.

"Ah, sorry!" Emmet pulled away, a bruise already forming around the teeth marks.

Volo laughed. "Don't apologize. You did as I asked. Keep going Emmet. What do you want to do with me?"

Emmet bit his lip and thought. He then slowly removed Volo's shirt, running his hands along his chest.

"Good pet. Very good." Volo murmured as Emmet's hands glid over him.

Emmet's breathing became a little heavier as his hands traveled downward. He slowly pushed Volo's pants down, seeing the base of his length peak out of his pubic hair.

"A little more." Volo mused.

Emmet pushed down slowly, more and more of Volo exposed. With a sudden flick his whole length sprang free, Emmet gazing in heated want.

Volo stood, putting his tip directly in front of Emmet's lips. "Have a taste, pet."

Emmet opened his mouth, Volo sliding his length inside. Emmet moaned and closed his eyes, placing his hands on Volo's thighs as he began to move his head back and forth. Volo licked his fingers and reached behind himself to start preparing for Emmet later. He sunk two fingers deep inside, doing everything he could from bucking his hips into Emmet's mouth.

Soon Volo was trembling on his own fingers, having three inside himself. He pulled out of Emmet's mouth to keep himself from climaxing too early. Emmet licked his lips. Volo got on his hands and knees, presenting himself to Emmet. He looked over his shoulder back at him, grinning. Emmet looked down at Volo, fiddling with his fingers.

"Come on love. I need you." Volo's voice wrapping around him like a silken scarf.

Emmet lined himself up and slowly pushed in. Volo let out a gasp as Emmet's head breached his tight ring of muscle. Emmet gave a surprised smile, joy flooding him from seeing Volo's reaction.

"Don't stop, pet. Please, I need you inside." Volo began to beg.

Emmet grabbed Volo's hips and pushed himself in deeper. His thick cock stretched Volo, making the fae whimper in delight.

"Are you alright, Volo?" Emmet asked, rubbing Volo's lower back as his cock slowly went deeper.

Volo let out a cry as Emmet bottomed out, "Fuck yes!"

Emmet blushed and continued to rub Volo's back as his body adjusted to him.

"You're so big." Volo breathed out, his mouth hanging open slightly.

"Is it too much?" Emmet asked, a little concerned.

Volo shook his head, "No, no it's amazing. You feel so good."

Emmet started to gently thrust into Volo, letting out a little gasp as he moved. Volo was incredibly tight and the pressure felt great on his shaft. Volo arched his back and bit his lip as Emmet grapped his hips to get more leverage.

"Yes. Good pet. Ah! Give me more!" Volo moaned loudly.

Emmet started increasing his pace, slamming deep inside Volo with each thrust. Volo soon had trouble supporting himself, slide down onto his elbows while a little drool dripped out of the side of his mouth.

"Fill me up, Emmie!" Volo begged.

Emmet was panting and hot all over. His thrusts became sloppy as his legs began to tremble. He reached up and grabbed onto Volo's hair as he came, sending Volo over the edge as well. They both screamed eachother's names, drowning in eachother's ecstasy. Volo sank down, his face pressed into the pillows, his legs quivering as Emmet's seed bubbled around his cock and dripped out of Volo. Emmet lovingly looked down at Volo and then laid down next to him, taking him into a warm embrace, his cock still shoved inside him.

"So good." Volo murmured.

Emmet kissed the back of Volo's neck. He winced a little as Volo tightened around his cock.

"I'm going to pull out, okay?" Emmet said.

Volo whined, "I wish you could stay inside. Maybe we can go another round soon?"

Volo looked back at him with big pouty eyes. Emmet grinned as he slid out, making Volo whine. Emmet turned his head gently, kissing his lover passionately.

"Yes. We must do this again soon." Emmet said.

Love making became a regular part of their lives. Emmet no longer felt just like Volo's pet, but instead his partner. They started bathing together and overall were more comfortable. When winter came they spent their days tucked up inside, buried deep in blankets, snuggling and tenderly worshipping eachother. Volo began teaching Emmet everything he knew, how to cast spells, to speak with animals, and the rules of the fae. Their winter days spent whispering to eachother, growing closer and closer.

"Winter used to be my least favorite time of year." Volo said, coming back from the bathroom after cleaning himself up.

Emmet looked up from the bed, getting comfortable after filling Volo up. "Oh?"

"It's really lonely usually. All the animals try to sleep winter off or fly away. Now I have you." Volo smiled, looking lovingly down at Emmet.

He dropped into Emmet's lap, Emmet's semi-soft length pressing into his taint, making Emmet gasp. Emmet put one hand on Volo's hips to steady him while he used the other to pull the blankets around them, keeping them warm.

"I'm glad I have you too, Volo." Emmet hummed.

Volo began tenderly kissing his neck, Emmet leaned his head back to give Volo space. Volo pouted for a moment, realizing the collar was in the way.

"I don't think I need this anymore. You'll always be my most beloved pet." Volo said. The collar shimmered and disappeared.

Emmet gasped, "Are... are you sure?"

Volo chuckled. "I trust you, pet. You will always come back to me. Let's visit your brother tomorrow."

Emmet's face lite up. "You mean it!? We can go see Ingo. But its not spring yet."

"It doesn't have to be. We can go whenever we want. Maybe we can even convince him to live with us. Build him a little house right next to ours so he is never far." Volo said.

"You forgive him for the deer?" Emmet asked.

Volo nodded, "He... he didn't mean to do it. I know I acted out of grief. I want to make things right."

Emmet's grin grew and he wrapped his arms tightly around Volo, pampering him with love and kisses. Volo laughed and flailed in the blankets as Emmet showered him with love.

The next morning they packed up a few things, buttoned their cloaks and set out into the woods. They stayed close to stay warm.

"The world of fairies often shifts and changes so we will arrive a little ways away from you old cottage. About a days walk." Volo said.

"I can't wait to see my brother. I'll explain everything to him. He will understand. We can be a big happy family together! It will be wonderful!" Emmet said.

They traveled along and were glad the skys had blessed them with warm weather. Eventually they became hungry and stopped under an old oak tree.

"This is a long walk." Emmet said taking a bite of honey coated bread.

"It should be less than an hour to your cottage. We are almost there, Emmet." Volo said licking his fingers.

Emmet let out a yawn and laid his head on Volo's lap, "It's so nice being outside after so many cold days."

Volo pet Emmet's head gently, "It must be closer to spring here than back home."

Emmet's eyes fluttered shut, comfortable in Volo's lap.

Volo smiled, "Get a little rest my love. We will see your brother soon."

Emmet woke up sometime later, shaken awake by a familiar voice.

"Emmet! Emmet it's me!" Ingo said.

"Ingo?" Emmet yawned. He sat up and rubbed the sleep from his eyes, "Ingo!"

Ingo pulled Emmet into a tight embrace, "Its okay now, Emmet! You're safe!"

"Safe? Of course I'm safe. Oh Ingo, I have so much to tell you! Vo-" The words became stuck in Emmet's throat.

Behind him, pinned to the tree by an arrow through the chest, was Volo. His face was pale, a small drip of blood fell from the corner of his mouth.

"You're free now, Emmet! We can be together!" Ingo said, tears misting his eyes.

"...No." Emmet choked out. Emmet reached out for Volo, touching his cooling cheeks. "Volo, please. Please wake up, Volo."

"Emmet?" Ingo touched his brother's back gently.

"Volo! Come on Volo wake up! Ingo's here we can all be together!" Emmet gently shook his lover. The fairy's head slumped to the side, completely lifeless. Emmet began to tremble, he couldn't believe this was happening. It had to be a sick joke.

"Emmet... he kidnapped you." Ingo stated, worry painted on his face.

"He was just upset. You killed one of his best friends. We fell in love. We love eachother. We are going to all be together and be happy." Emmet's voice cracked, hot tears stinging his face.

Ingo's face turned pale. "Emmet."

"Everything, everything was going to be okay now! Volo you have to wake up!" Emmet shouted. He clung to Volo, howling out in pain.

They buried Volo near the edge of the forest. Emmet sat near his grave everyday, his heart frozen over and utterly broken. Animals came to visit and mourn the loss of the fae, many nuzzling up to Emmet trying to sooth his grief.

"...Emmet, I'm so sorry. You must hate me now." Ingo said, coming out to cover his brother with a blanket. The winds were growing harsher but he knew better than to try and pull Emmet from Volo's side.

"I don't hate you, Ingo. I never could. You're all I have." Emmet whispered, pulling the blanket tight around his shoulders.

Ingo turned away from Emmet, shame burning in his chest. In the distance they heard what sounded like hoof beats. Ingo looked up and saw deep in the forest a figure riding on a reindeer. Ingo leaned closer to Emmet protectively, Emmet didn't take his eyes from the grave.

As the reindeer came closer Ingo could make out its rider. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen with long blonde hair that ran down the length of her back. She sat side saddle on the doe she was riding in an elegant black dress fit for royalty.

"So, it is true. Two men of silver hair. One his lover, the other his killer." The woman said, her voice crisp as the night air.

Ingo stayed close to Emmet. "Who are you?"

The woman slid off her mount and came to look at the grave, "Cynthia, Queen of the Fairies."

Ingo held his breath. To have such a powerful creature visit Volo's grave. He could only imagine how important Volo really must have been. Emmet finally looked up, the sight of the queen was like a stab to the chest. She looked so similar to his past love.

Ingo bowed his head to her, "Please! You majesty, is there anyway we can bring Volo back? I have heard your magic is unrivaled."

Cynthia nodded. "There is, but the cost would be heavy."

"Please, I will do anything to right this wrong!" Ingo begged.

"No." Emmet gently took Ingo's hand.

"Emmet? Why not, we can get your beloved back!" Ingo said.

"Because I already know the price Ingo. It's you. In order to get him back I would have to surrender that which is most precious to me which would be your life. I can't keep trading one of you for the other. My heart can't take it. He's gone." Emmet's red weary eyes drew tears once more.

Ingo looked to the Queen, her expression confirming what Emmet said. "Please, is their nothing I can do for my brother? Twice now I have stolen his happiness from him."

Cynthia touched the grave gently, "...Volo was my cousin. I too would do anything to get him back. We were distant due to my position but much the same in spirit. I can think of only one thing."

"Please." Ingo pleaded.

"You become mine as your brother became Volo's. You will live in my palace with me as my lover and pet. Not dead, but never free." Cynthia said, her voice calm yet absolute.

"I'll do it." Ingo said.

"Ingo!" Emmet protested.

"Emmet, I can't stand what I have done to you, to Volo. I need to make this right. Besides," Ingo looked at Cynthia, "I don't think I would mind being hers."

Cynthia smiled, "I promise that I will take very good care of you. And you may see your brother often."

Ingo looked back at Emmet, "Let me make this right."

Emmet dried his tears on his sleeve. He looked to the grave, thinking of all the time he spent with Volo, how his heart ached for him. "You... you better treat him nicely."

"The fae don't lie, my dear." Cynthia said, waving her hand.

A whirlwind whipped around them, the icy wind roaring and blinding them all. A collar of gold appeared around Ingo's neck and into Emmet's arms fell a naked Volo.

"E-Emmet? Where are we?" Volo asked, looking around confused. "Queen Cynthia? What are you doing here?"

Emmet burst into tears and began kissing Volo. Volo clung to him, as shocked as confused as Emmet held him tighter than he ever had before.

"Volo! My sweet Volo!" Emmet sobbed, nuzzling his face into his cheek.

Volo pet Emmet's hair, trying to sooth him, "Shhhhh, it's okay, my pet. It's okay. What has you so worked up?"

Emmet laughed, unable to let go of Volo, his chest aching. Cynthia picked up Ingo into her arms, alarming him with her strength.

"Well, my new pet, let me take you home. Your brother needs time to reunit and I need to get the smell of the human world off of you." Cynthia said, sitting back upon her reindeer.

Ingo clung to Cynthia, blushing slight. "Umm, I will see you later, Emmet!"

Emmet rubbed his eyes and waves, "You better!"

Cynthia gave a melodic laugh, "I promise he will see you once I have him settled in."

Cynthia road off back into the woods, her prize in her arms.

"Emmet, please my darling, what is going on?" Volo asked.

Emmet's smile returned to his face in full. He kissed Volo again, deeply and full of all the passion he had. "I will explain everything."

The two lovers went home, Volo rather upset he apparently had died. Emmet refused to leave his side for more than a moment. It took a few months, but Emmet eventually calmed down, relaxing back into his life with Volo. Spring came and Cynthia stayed true to her word. Ingo visited, happy in his new role. Volo and Ingo definitely had a lot to sort out amongst eachother but they tried to be civil for Emmet. Ingo swore to never touch a bow again.

"What should we plant this year, Emmie?" Volo asked, kneeling in the garden.

Emmet knelt behind him, burying his face into his shoulder.

"Emmie~ my delightful pet~ what should we grow?" Volo sang.

"I love you." Emmet murmured, emotions dwelling up.

Volo paused, turning to see Emmet's teary red face. "Thinking about the oak tree again?"

Emmet nodded.

Volo pulled Emmet into a hug, falling back into the garden's soil. "I'm here, Emmie. I'm never going to leave you again. I love you, too."

Emmet sniffled, nodding and smiling at Volo. Volo pulled him into a kiss, comforting his dearest Emmet till nothing but thoughts of love and comfort filled his head.
