Desperate kiss

Summary:

Cody learns about the Rako Hardeen mission before Obi-Wan starts it.

Notes:

Hi! So I need to say I'm overwhelmed with the positive response to the first fic I published while trying to get bingo, I wasn't expecting so many kind words so thanks everyone <3
Today's fic is not so fluffy, is kinda angsty, but it has not so angsty ending! As it is stated in the description and tags, the fic resolves around the Rako Hardeen so I guess this is a warning in itself. Still, I hope you will like it!
My bingo card can be found on tumblr under the same name as here, link here Michaelaariadne

Work Text:

Obi-Wan came back to his room in the Jedi temple late. The council summoned him to the council’s chamber late in the evening, only with a message that it was urgent and that he must arrive alone. Cody wasn't asleep when he arrived, he was waiting for him to come back. He had a feeling there was something terribly wrong going on.

They were together. Technically. Sort of.

They promised each other everything after the war. They promised each other forever when the world stopped ending and the galaxy is free again. Obi-Wan promised to leave the Jedi Order for him when the generals weren't longer needed. He said he didn't want to regret not doing it again. He didn't clarify but Cody knew it was about Satine. He heard stories, rumors but he never asked Obi-Wan for the truth. It wasn't his to know and he was sure of Obi-Wan's feelings now.

They rarely behaved like a couple. They shared the bed sometimes, at some time indulged themselves in a moment of intimacy, foreheads brought together, hands holding each other tight. Not kiss. Never kiss.

When they got together, long after the start of the war, Obi-Wan asked for their first kiss to be after the end of it. When they both could be free.

"I don't think I could be part of this war any longer after I taste your lips, cyare. I wouldn’t be able to let you go and fight, knowing you may not come back," he said one day. Unprompted, because Cody never questioned what he asked, he was willing to wait.

"Obi-Wan? Are you all right?" Cody asked standing up from the bed, datapad where he was reading falling forgotten on the bedding.

"No," Obi-Wan answered and this alone was terrifying for Cody because he was used to his lover hiding what he really felt behind the calm mask. "But I will have to do what I was asked because it is my duty."

"Hey." Cody put his hands on Obi-Wan's cheeks making him look at him. "Talk to me, love."

Obi-Wan was silent for a moment, eyes closed as he buried his cheek in Cody’s hand.

"I..." Obi-Wan hesitated. "I am going to die for the mission."

"What?" Cody moved back, shock clear on his face.

"They are making me fake my own death. I'm going undercover. And I'm afraid I'm not coming back."

"I..." Cody hesitated and then he answered like a perfect soldier he was trying not to lose his composure. "I don't think you're supposed to tell me this."

"I shouldn't. They told me not to, but kriff the Council, if they are going to put me through this I'm not going to apologize for having emotions!" Obi-Wan raised his voice and Cody's eyes became even bigger. "They especially told me not to tell Anakin, and I agreed because they wouldn't let me go if I didn't but..." There was desperation in Obi-Wan's eyes. "I need you to tell him. Him and Ahsoka. After I'm gone, that I'm not really dead. Please, Cody, promise me you will tell them. You're the only one I can trust with that. And they need to know."

Cody surged forward. Kriff the arrangements they made, he can apologize later, he just crashed his lips against Obi-Wan’s in a hard kiss. Obi-Wan didn’t push him away, pulling him closer instead. The kiss was uncoordinated, almost bruising. Cody's teeth broke the skin of Obi-Wan's lower lip, and they both tasted blood. Cody wanted to move back, to make sure Obi-Wan was still all right with what was happening, but Obi-Wan held on his upper blacks desperately, pulling him closer, deepening the kiss. He licked into Cody's mouth, making him moan softly and melt even more against Obi-Wan. His hair, in which Cody put his hand to have a little more control over the kiss, were soft like silk. There was some kind of calmness in steady movements of his hand through his lover's hair.

They were both breathless when they finally broke the kiss, but neither of them wanted to really part, so they stood there, in a tight embrace, foreheads brought together.

"I hate that it happened like this," Obi-Wan said quietly. "But I'm glad it happened at the same time."

"I hate that it happened like this. That you are leaving and you might not come back, and I might never have another chance to kiss you like this." Cody moved his thumb over Obi-Wan's lower lip, wiping the remaining blood off. "But I don’t regret it. It feels like I can finally breathe, now, that I tasted your lips, when we shared breath for a moment."

"You sound like a poet."

"I sound like a desperate!" Cody laughed humorlessly. "Like a madman. But it's fine. I guess I am desperate to make the most of what time we are left.”

“Cody…”

“If you're not going back... How much time do we have?" Cody spoke as if he didn’t hear him.

"Two days, maybe three. It depends on how quickly the council start to act and... get ready for conducting the mission."

"Then let's spend it like there is no second chance."

Cyare…”

“I don’t want to know anything more about the mission. I don’t need to know. I just need you.”

There was cold acceptation, and some kind of grief in Cody's eyes when 212th was leaving Coruscant, Obi-Wan staying behind. He only whispered “Come back to me, love” before the Negotiator set out.

In the safety of his room Cody prayed to Manda, Force and every other deity that could save Obi-Wan to intervene, to save him and let them spend more time together. As soon as the news about Obi-Wan’s supposed death reached them he commed general Skywalker and passed the message from Obi-Wan and he almost hated the flash of hope he saw in the young Jedi eyes. Because he feared his heart might be broken again if the general won’t live through that karked mission.

But someone heard Cody’s prayers and Obi-Wan was still alive.

Their kisses were sweeter when Obi-Wan came back to Negotiator.
