Chapter Text
The bell on the door chimes as you enter your favorite bakery. The sweet aroma of cinnamon wafting through the air, your eyes meeting with the emerald ones of your childhood friend and roommate, chloroplast, as you walk to the counter.
“Hey Y/N” chloroplast called.
“Hey Chloro!!” you replied, Chloro has been your nickname for Chloroplast for as long as you can remember, and you see a glint of mischief in chloro’s eyes. You blush “what is it?” you ask as his green lips curl into a smirk.
“I’ve really done it this time.” You know what he’s talking about, Chloroplast has been attempting to create a new source of glucose since you were all juniors in high school. He was inspired by Mitochondria figuring out how to make ATP back in sophomore year. Despite this, you decide to mess with him.
“Done what?” you ask innocently, batting your eyelashes.
“Oh don’t play with me, Y/N,” Chloroplast Scoffs, “I’ve made a way to make glucose!”
“Oh do tell,” you reply.
“Well I call the process photosynthesis. By combining water and carbon dioxide, and putting them under the sun to bake, I can form glucose!” Chloro says, hesitating before continuing, “Of course, it's not perfect, it still has oxygen as a byproduct, so it’s definitely not as good as Mitochondria's…”
“I’m sure it’s perfect” you’re always perfect, Chloroplast, you think to yourself with a soft sigh.
You hear a ding in the back of the bakery and Chloro excuses himself to go get whatever it is he’s baking. You wonder what new recipe he’s cooked up this time, as he’s always creating new things.
Chloroplast comes back with an odd looking cookie sheet, with green cookies sitting upon it. He runs his fingers through his malachite green hair, before speaking.
“These are two of my… other, newest inventions,” He gestures to the cookies, “I call these Thylakoids, they include a special new ingredient I made called stroma, and they help with photosynthesis, and these” He gestures to the pan itself, “I call my folded membrane, you see, the metal is folded in such a way that it can bake any cookie at all just perfectly! It even cooks the Thylakoids,”
“That’s amazing Chloro, you’re so smart” you beam.
“Thank you Y/N,” Chloroplast replies, “You’re such a good friend”
Just as you open your mouth to speak, the doorbell chimes again, and you both look to see your other childhood friend and roommate, Mitochondria.
“Hi Mitochondria!! What can I get you??” Chloroplast says bashfully, a hint of red tinting his green cheeks.
“Hi, Chloroplast! Hey Y/N” Mitochondria replies, grinning warmly, “I don’t want anything today, I’m just here to work on an assignment with Y/N”
“Are you sure you don’t want to try my new cookies?” Chloroplast asks, looking disappointed.
“Mitochondria, they're really good, you should try one,” you insist. Mitochondria raises a brow, taking a second before responding.
“Alright, if Y/N says they’re good, I guess I should try one,” Mitochondria takes a cookie from Chloroplast, before walking with you to sit down at a booth.
