Work Text:
He kissed him. He kissed Nichols. Josh. He stared at him in shock, surprised by his own impulsive action. But Nichols had kissed him back, that was a good sign in Wolf’s book. He did look as shocked as Wolf, however. He couldn’t turn back now though, nor did he want to.
“Do you want to take this somewhere else?” Wolf asked.
“Your place is closer. Meet you there?” Nichols was quickly catching up.
Wolf nodded. Nichols turned to leave, then turned back to kiss Wolf. They locked eyes and he could tell Nichols was searching for something, which he must have found as he let Wolf go and headed off to his jeep. Abandoning whatever he was waiting for in line.
As he watched Nichols he remembered he too should move. He hopped back on his bike and drove on autopilot home, trying not to overthink what happened, what’s about to happen. Wolf arrived first. As he was unlocking his door he wondered if Nichols had changed his mind. He got his answer as his jeep pulled up and he made his way to Wolf’s porch.
Wolf grabbed his collar, pulling him into another kiss, though this one was heating up fast.
“We should –” Nichols started.
“Inside.” Wolf found his vocabulary suddenly lacking.
“Inside is good.”
Wolf managed to open the door, which at the moment should have awarded him a medal. They stumbled inside not letting go of each other.
Nichols paused to ask, “Upstairs or?”
Wolf shook his head, “Couch works for me.” He backed Nichols up to said couch, giving him a gentle shove. He took the hint and sat down, Wolf took the opportunity to climb onto his lap.
Nichols nipped and licked his neck and it sent shudders through Wolf. He felt his hands gently sliding up and down his sides and back, slipping under his shirt. He was starting to remember why people had relationships. He was shaken out of his thoughts by Nichols lifting his shirt. Wolf got the hint and took it off. Nichols, Josh, ran his hands up his chest and Wolf made what he’d argue was an embarrassing sound.
Grabbing Nichols face he kissed him hard, earning him a moan. As he kissed him he began to unbutton Nichols shirt, sliding it off his shoulders. Wolf mirrored what he did earlier and ran his hands up and down his chest. A lot smoother than Wolf but abs class certainly paid off.
He felt Nichols hands move from his back to his belt. He unzipped them both, starting with Wolf. Next he felt those large hands on his back again, and he suddenly found himself lying on his couch looking up at blue eyes. Wolf watched as leaned down to gently kiss him. He gasped, turned moan, when a hand stroked him through his boxer briefs. And Wolf thought he was hard before. He shivered when cold air met with his heated dick but Nichols was touching him now with nothing between him and those freakishly large hands. Those very talented freakishly large hands.
Wolf moaned, arching into his touch. “Ah! If you keep that up things won’t last very long…you could say it’s been awhile…”
Nichols gave a soft laugh, “If you think I’ll be lasting very long, think again.”
Nichols hands left his body. Wolf watched as he took himself out and gave himself a few strokes before lining up his body with Wolf’s, taking both of them in his beautifully large hands. He began stroking, their pre-cum acting as a decent enough lube, and Wolf was seeing stars.
Nichols rested his head against Wolfs neck, all his soft breathy moans now in Wolf’s ear. Those were being committed to memory. Wolf needed more, needed to touch Nichols. He stopped his hand to replace it with his own, going slow at first, just enjoying the feeling.
“Oliver…” he moaned his name against neck.
“Hmm?”
“You’re killing me.” Another moan escaped him as his thumb brushed over his particularly sensitive head.
That got a small laugh out of Wolf, “Apologies.”
He picked up the pace and as he expected he felt himself getting close and by the tension in Nichols body so was he.
“Josh I-”
“Me too.”
Wolf came first, Nichols not far behind, across Wolf’s chest. He used his free hand to bring Nichols back into a kiss, this one softer, as they rode out the orgasm.
Nichols collapsed on top of Wolf, “That was…”
“Fantastic?”
“Is that a question?”
Wolf laughed, “No, believe me I thought it was fantastic.”
“Good.” He paused, “Not that I wanna ruin the mood but what was this Wolf?”
“It’s…it’s well I’m not sure. Was this impulsive on my part? Very. But Roman made some compelling arguments on why I shouldn’t keep denying myself something meaningful in my life.”
“Did he? And that something is…me?”
“We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t.” Nichols raised his eyebrows at that. “Sorry, but yes. It’s you. We’ve grown closer these past couple months and…I’ve grown rather fond of you.”
“You like me. You can just say you like me.”
Wolf laughed again, “Okay, um, yes. I like you, Josh.”
Nichols laughed softly, “I like you too. Even if we still butt heads and you have way too many plants.” He kissed Wolf’s cheek.
“Hey leave my ferns out of this.” He smiled and ran a hand through Nichols hair. “You know, it was Roman who pointed out that you liked me.”
Nichols eyes widened in shock, “You mean you couldn’t tell?”
“I guess I’m very out of practice? But why didn’t YOU just tell me?”
“You already turned down that hot principal, I wasn’t exactly being super subtle flirting, so I don’t know…thought maybe you just wanted to keep things how they were…and I….I’m also out of practice when it comes to actually having feelings for someone. I’ve had mostly causal relationships since med school.”
“So you don’t want this to be…that?”
“Be causal? No, that’s…that’s not what I want. Not from you.”
“Good. Because I don’t want that either.”
“And what do you want, Wolf?” His eyes were soft, searching.
“You. Us. I want to try being an us. A relationship. Though I can’t promise smooth sailing. There’s still a lot of my past you don’t know…a lot of…”
“Baggage?” Nichols supplied and Wolf nodded. “You know we all got a past, Oliver. But if this is something we both want, we will make it work.”
Wolf nodded again, “Will you stay tonight?”
“If you want me to.”
“I asked you didn’t I?” He gave him a soft kiss.
“Then I’m staying. But we should order food or something because I’m starving.”
“No arguments here. Pizza? Or are we still avoiding carbs?”
Nichols laughed, “Pizza’s fine.”
Nichols had a quick shower while Wolf placed their order. He borrowed a pair of shorts from Wolf, passing on a shirt. Wolf followed with a quick shower of his own coming down in shorts and a tee just in time for the pizza. He wasn’t quick enough, however, and Nichols was already paying the delivery guy.
“I had that you know.”
“Be quicker next time. Besides you’ve been buying me coffee for weeks, so hush.”
Wolf raised his hands in surrender, “Fine fine. You win this round.” He rested his hands on Nichols waist, leaning in for a kiss.
Nichols pulled away first, “Mmm…you should know I’m very competitive.”
“Oh that WAS obvious.”
Nichols laughed, “Let’s eat.”
The rest of the night was comfortable, something Wolf wasn’t used to. Comfortable with someone in his space, someone who wasn’t Carol. They laid in Wolf’s bed, Wolf cuddled up to Nichols chest and they talked, mostly light topics. Nichols ran his hands through his hair and Wolf felt himself dozing off, it was oddly relaxing. Nothing else happened except a little making out and they fell asleep a tangle of limbs.
That was also how they woke, Wolf practically on top of Nichols. Wolf hummed in contentment. He couldn’t remember the last time he felt this way. Comfortable, safe, content. He nuzzled his face into the crook of Nichols neck and shoulder.
“Morning.” Nichols voice was still rough with sleep. He ran a hand in Wolf’s hair again, using it to draw him into a kiss.
“Morning.” He returned his face to its former spot on Nichols neck, enjoying the warmth and smell of him. Sandalwood, eucalyptus, and something just Josh.
“Comfortable?”
“Mhm.”
“You got five minutes before I need coffee.”
“Twenty.”
“Ten.”
“Deal.” He nuzzled further into him if that was possible. Nichols laughed and Wolf felt the vibrations through his chest.
Twenty minutes later they were out of bed and Wolf was making coffee. Nichols had spare clothes in his jeep and he changed as the coffee brewed. They still had work today. After both men were dressed and caffeinated Nichols had one more sort of important question.
“So. How do you wanna do this…at work?”
“What do you mean?”
“Like do you want people to know we’re seeing each other?”
“Oh. Um. Would it be bad if I said just for a little while I’d like to keep it between us? I know we’re both not exactly in the closet but…”
“No, it wouldn’t be bad. Maybe that’s a good idea anyway. Give us time to…adjust to things before it’s everyone else’s business.”
Wolf smiled softly and nodded.
“See you at work?”
Wolf nodded again. Nichols grabbed his face and kissed him, leaving him breathless. He could get used to that. He watched him drive off, leaving not too long after.
Things were a little awkward at work. But not as bad as Wolf might have thought. It was mostly just fighting the impulse to kiss, or put his hands on, Nichols.
They had one moment alone in Wolf’s office and they took full advantage. Wolf, and Nichols, finally got to give into all the impulses they had to resist in public.
“God I love your hands.” He said between being kissed senseless.
“I thought they were freakish and large?”
“And wonderfully talented.”
Wolf could almost feel the playful eye roll. He was backed into the wall pinned between it and Nichols body. He was still in scrubs from surgery and smelled faintly of the antiseptic soap. The talented hands in question had found there way under Wolf’s shirt, stroking his sides, teasing at the hard nubs on his chest. He could feel Nichols getting hard against his thigh.
Wolf let out breathy moans, drawing Nichols attention to his neck. He nipped lightly, repeating with his ear, breathy moans growing louder.
Nichols kissed him to silence the sounds. Wolf’s hands moved to Nichols hair, tugging lightly to pull him closer, drawing out some sexy sounds from the surgeon.
Nichols pulled away a moment, “At this rate keeping this quiet at work is gonna go out the window.” He smirked at Wolf, “We’re worse than teenagers.”
“We aren’t THAT bad.” Wolf laughed, pulling him back in for another kiss. Wolf led him back towards his desk, Nichols leaning against it, Wolf between his legs, and hands back in Nichols hair.
They were so lost in the moment the knock at the door startled them both so much they knocked files, a stapler, and some other objects off Wolf’s desk in their effort to scramble themselves together.
“Dr. Wolf?” It was Dr. Markus.
“Um, yes, coming.”
“Not anymore.” Nichols muttered, giving Wolf a smirk. Wolf glared back.
“Ha.”
He opened the door to find Dr. Markus looking concerned. “Is…everything ok? I heard uhh…”
“Oh um yes. Fine. Everything is fine. Dr. Nichols and I were just…going over some files and…” he gestured to the mess now on the floor, “and that happened.”
Dr. Markus looked between the two of them and Wolf realized his mistake. “ Right…ah ok. I won’t…say anything about the… files. Um we got the labs back…” he offered the file to Wolf.
“Good, great. Thanks. I’ll take a look and see what we got.”
Dr. Markus nodded, “I’ll uh go see if Dana needs help with…something.” He practically bolted from the room, shutting the door behind him.
Nichols looked at Wolf with confused eyes, “What was that?”
Wolf pinched the bridge if his nose, “He knows.”
“About us?” Wolf nodded. “How?”
“He has mirror touch synesthesia.”
“Shit.”
“Good news, he’ll keep it to himself. Probably.”
“That’s what he meant about the files.”
Wolf shrugged, “He’s good at keeping other people’s secrets.”
“I don’t envy him. Mirror touch, wow.”
“Mhm, fascinating, right?”
“Honestly, a little. So. You need to get to that?” He motioned at the file.
Wolf sighed, “Yes. This will hopefully tell us something. But…..I recall an offer where you’d cook for me and I get to judge if you really are best chef? Any chance I could collect on that tonight?”
Nichols smiled, “I think that could be arranged. But you’re gonna have to come to my place for that.”
“Ohh I get to see YOUR place? Sounds fun. I’ll need an address though.”
He watched Nichols eyes light up mischievously. He grabbed a marker still on the desk and grabbed Wolf’s arm, rolling up the sleeve of his coat and sweater.
“What are you doing?” He watched him, puzzled.
“Writing my address on your arm.”
Wolf laughed, “Why?”
“It’s cute and spontaneous and if I recall we were already acting like teenagers. Normally this would be a phone number but you seem to have an aversion to anything remotely helpful in life so my address will do.”
Wolf laughed harder, “Hey, ouch. Wait what is that, that is not just your address.”
“It’s a wolf.”
“You drew a wolf on my arm?”
“And wrote my address.” Wolf gave him a look that said are you crazy, “Again. It’s cute and spontaneous and now you’ll think of me being cute and spontaneous all day. Maybe it’ll distract you from thinking about my TALENTED hands.”
Wolf smacked his chest playfully, “Oh I’m going to regret saying that aren’t I.”
“Not at all Dr. Wolf.” He gave him a wink as he walked towards the door, Wolf followed. Before opening, Nichols leaned in, kissing him softly, “See you tonight. Seven?”
“Seven’s fine. See you tonight. Don’t forget –”
“The Chardonnay, I know.” He gave Wolf’s cheek a quick kiss before parting ways.
Wolf couldn’t wait for dinner. He was nervous but excited. But for now his attention was needed back on his patient.
