Work Text:
The day before
The sun streamed through Wolf’s bedroom window, signaling it was at least six am. Wolf had the best night he had had in a long while. He and Nichols had take out and spent the rest of the night in bed. He forgot how much he missed sex. He was currently lying on top of Josh’s chest, listening to his breathing, his heartbeat. Basking in his warmth. He figured he would get as much time with Nichols in as he could as he was leaving for a conference for a couple days and Wolf already missed him. It was irrational but he found going a few days without Nichols gave him feelings of distress. A hand in his hair brought him out of his thoughts.
“Mmm….what are you thinking about so early in the morning?”
“Oh nothing much. Considering darkening that mark there just at the base of your neck. So you know, no one gets any funny ideas while you’re at that conference.” He smiled against Josh’s chest.
“Oh? Is that right. Well far be from me to stop you.” Josh laughed and Wolf joined him. When Nichols was least suspecting, he in fact did darken the mark with a firm bite, giving it a kiss after. It got a light moan out of Nichols. “Oliver…”
The rest of the morning was spent in bed until they absolutely had to get up.
Josh during the episode
Oliver had called him no less than 5 times. He tried to call back but they kept missing each other. He couldn’t deny the cuteness of Oliver’s messages though. He wouldn’t just come right out and say he missed Josh, no he had to play it awkward causal. But Josh wasn’t fooled.
When Wolf said this might be easier if he had a cellphone Nichols had an idea. A brilliant idea if you asked him. He’d just get Wolf a phone. It was clear the man missed him, wanted to talk to him. He missed Oliver, wanted to talk to him. He’s wanted to just shove a phone in the man’s hands but never had a good enough reason, but here it was, a reason, presented right in front of him. He had some time before his next panel of the conference to execute his plan. He found a store by his cell provider, got a line added, a phone identical to his, and even set it up for Wolf. He added his name and Carol into his contacts, the interns would have to be added later as he doesn’t have their numbers. And then he went to find a nice gift box, leaving Oliver a note inside. Last step was to go get it shipped and delivered next day, costly but worth it.
Nichols took a deep breath and hoped Oliver took the gift well.
Post episode
Wolf sat on his couch in his office smiling down at his introduction to the 21st century. As hesitant as he was to adapt to some of the more modern utilities, he couldn’t say he hated this one. Perhaps he just needed the right reason to engage with this fancy tech. And Josh was certainly worth it, in Wolf’s humble opinion. He heard a now familiar ding, indicating a text from said surgeon.
Conference is almost over. :) long drive home is gonna suck.
Wolf laughed and typed back. He knew what Josh was doing, and he thought it was adorable.
You’re home is 45 minutes from the conference that’s hardly long. However, mine is only 30 minutes so if you would like to save an extra 15 minutes you can come to mine
Wolf watched as the tell tale signs of typing bubbles appeared on screen.
You know that sounds like a fantastic idea. 15 whole minutes is like two hours when you’re driving. Never let it be said that neurologists don’t have problem solving skills.
Wolf laughed some more. Yes, this was definitely worth learning this newfangled device.
See you at home then :)
Josh
See you at home then :)
The text made Josh’s heart flutter. Home. Wolf, Oliver, was starting to feel like home for Josh and that scared him. He hasn’t let anyone get that close since he was still in the military. But Oliver was…was well…breaking through every wall he had constructed since then. He drove home, to Oliver’s, with a small smile on his face. Hey may have given them a 60/40 chance but he’s pretty sure the odds are currently still in their favor.
He got to Oliver’s and like usual it was warm inside. For the plants, he’s told. He found Wolf in the kitchen making tea in nothing but sweat pants. Josh couldn’t help but stare. Oliver Wolf in sweat pants was a sight.
“Well now I feel over dressed.” He managed to move his eyes back up to Wolf’s.
“Well let me finish making us some tea and we can definitely remedy that problem.” He gave a small laugh, coming over to kiss Josh, wrapping his arms around his neck. “I know I was probably really subtle in my voicemails but I really missed you.”
“You did? Huh, couldn’t tell.” Josh laughed, placing a kiss on top of Oliver’s head. “I missed you too, if you didn’t notice by the surprise cell phone.”
“Thank you, by the way. As much as I am averse to these new modern ways, yes yes I’m a Luddite I know, I found being able to actually talk to you worth the hassle of teaching an old dog a new trick as it were.”
“I was worried I might have overstepped..”
Oliver took a moment to look into Josh’s eyes, “Not at all. I know I can be quite stubborn but sometimes I just need that little push. I could barely focus on my patients worrying about missing your call. Trust me, you did us both a favor.” He kissed him then, hard, and Nichols melted into him. “Now why don’t we take the tea upstairs and get you more properly dressed.”
That got another laugh out of Josh. He followed Oliver’s lead, taking his mug and heading upstairs.
