Made It Out Alive - Honoka's Story

Chapter 21: In Each of Our Hearts

Notes:

This will be the final chapter for a while. I have been writing two stories at the same time, both Honoka and her Best friend Akiko. When I'm all done with Akiko's season one, I'll be working on writing Honoka's season two which will hopefully have better writing than this season did. please bear with me. I juggle art, writing and my social life. I also have a job, so I don't have the energy I always need. if you made it this far and like my writing, the first chapter of Akiko's story "A match into water" will be going up soon.

Chapter Text

She was in the middle of talking when a gunshot rang through her ears. She let out a whine and turned around. “The pros!” She quickly chirped with a smile. “They’re here!” Even if it was at the expense of her hearing.

“It’s Iida!” Ochaco was about to burst into tears and Honoka was there right along with her.

“Your class rep has returned! I’ve fulfilled my duty!” He announced proudly. He had brought back the faculty! They were safe! “And I’ve brought reinforcements!”

She watched as Present Mic walked forward. Oh no. She quickly folded her ears down to cover them, a sharp whine leaving her. He was loud even if they were behind him!

When the yelling stopped, she uncovered her ears and watched as all of the villains were taken down. Even Thirteen was in the fight again! Pros were just so cool!

At the end of it all, everyone was rounded up. She searched. “Shoto!” She exclaimed, rushing over. She bought the boy no time as she wrapped her arms around him, pulling him close.

He didn’t say anything and just patted her head awkwardly. She let go and sniffed, looking around for Akiko.

When she found the girl, she was happy to see her uninjured. She wrapped her arms around the girl too. “You’re safe!” She said, nuzzling her face into her shoulder.

“Uh… Yeah…” Akiko muttered, not returning the hug. “Uh.”

Honoka let go and rushed back over to Shoto. Odd when she had two people she cared about most.

“I don’t even know what happened! I was suddenly shoved and then I was out of the mist.” She spoke. “It was a relief cause the sound was deafening but still.”

“I Pushed you out.” Shoto stated calmly.

“You what!?” She was shocked, why had he done that? He should have focused on himself.

“Fuyumi would get onto me if I didn’t take care of you. She made me promise to…” He blinked. “ ‘Watch her baby?’ ” he quoted. “At the beginning of the year.” He finished.

That made sense. Fuyumi was always so protective of Honoka. Maybe it was the age gap or the fact that Honoka had the tendency to occasionally freak out and die over stuff. She didn't know. But she was glad that someone had her back. “Thank you Shoto.” She smiled. “I’ll make sure to watch out for you too from now on!

The detective caught her attention. They would be brought back to campus. Good, she needed a breather.

    “Detective.”

    ‘Tsu.’ She watched the interaction.

“What about Mr. Aizawa?” Tsu asked.

‘Mr. Aizawa…’ She frowned. By the time their teacher had got to them, he was out of commission. Her ears pinned to her head, her tail between her legs. Was their teacher okay? For someone she thought she wasn’t a fan of, she was worried.

“The bones in his arms are splintered and he’s got facial fracturing.” There was a phone voice. It sounded terrible and her heart dropped. “Fortunately, there doesn't seem to be any serious brain damage.” She breathed a sigh of relief. Good news. “But” Oh damn it.  “His orbital floor has been almost completely destroyed. We have no way of knowing if his eyesight will be impaired once he’s healed up.” Her heart dropped again, a pit forming in her stomach.

“Well, you heard the man.” The detective spoke.

“His eyes…” She muttered. The key to his quirk. Without them, he was quirkless.

“Not his eyes!” Mineta teared up. That crying sounded familiar. Was he the one crying after everyone was teleported?

“Um, sir, what about Thirteen?” Mina’s voice was soft, probably from all the crying she had been doing.

“There's no need to worry there. Despite some pretty bad lacerations to the back, Thirteen is gonna pull through good as new.” The detective assured

Honoka let out a small breath of relief, her ears popping back up and tail returning to normal.

“And All Might is also without any serious injuries.” More good news. Good. “He’s in the nurse’s office right now. Recovery Girl’s power should be all the treatment he needs.” The detective assured. Honoka couldn’t help but smile.

    “What about Deku?” Ochaco asked.

“How’s Midoriya?” Iida followed. His two closest friends is the class.

“Midori-? Ah, Recovery Girl is taking care of him too. He’s fine.” The detective tilted his hat.

That was good. She swore that boy was a magnet for bodily harm.

    “Oh, thank goodness.” Ochaco breathed.

“Now let’s get you back to class.”

Class sounded so good right now. “Okay.” The class answered together.

The bus ride was silent. She was happy for that in a way. She quietly chatted with Shoto before the adrenaline caught up with her and she slept the last few minutes of the bus ride.

By the time they were back to the school, the sun was casting an orange glow over all of the land. It was nice, oddly cinematic and reflective.

‘At the end of the day… that’s what we’ll be against? I freaked out… I couldn’t handle it.  Was it truly only because it was our first attack? Or will I be like this in the future?’ Her face was hard and her thoughts harsh.

    “Shoto?” She looked at him.

“Hm?” He didn’t look at her but responded.

“May I stay the night at your house tonight?” She requested.

“I’m sure Fuyumi would want that once she finds out what happened. You’ll be babied.” He nodded.

Usually that would bring a smile to Honoka’s face. Right now, though, she just looked forward again, drowning herself in thought. ‘I need to do better.’

End of season one.
