“Are you alright?” Kaidan asks Zyn after barging into her room without knocking after repeated attempts at trying to contact her through her omni-tool, to no avail.
Zyn looks up from studying the gauze on her burned hands while sitting cross legged on the end of her bed dressed in a short robe. Sighing, she says humorlessly, “Come on in, Kaidan. Make yourself at home.”
“I will thank you,” Kaidan says as he sits down next to her. At Zyn’s scoff, Kaidan wraps one of his arms around her and kisses the top of her head when she curls herself around him laying her head on his shoulder, “You only brought my invasion upon yourself when you ignored my calls.”
“Yeah, you’re right. Sorry.” Zyn says tilting her head up to give him a small peck on the lips.
“What the hell happened on the Cornucopia? The official report you wrote doesn’t mention that you burned your hands.” Kaidan says accusingly.
“Fucking husks,” Zyn says by way of explanation.
After waiting to see if she would elaborate further, Kaidan tilts her head up to look her in the eye and says, “I was with you on Eden Prime, remember? I know about husks. How the hell did you get close enough to get burned?”
After trying to pull away without much success, she finally acknowledges that Kaidan is not going to leave her alone until his obsession with her safekeeping is satisfied. Although, obviously she could take care of herself, his worry was admittedly endearing.
Zyn sighs, “Fine. Ashley and Tali were in front of me taking care of the husks in the stupid maze of the cargo hold while my biotics were recharging and I noticed a husk was sneaking up on Tali’s blind spot. I charged as soon as I was able and after killing it, I didn’t have enough shields left to protect me against its buddy behind it. Instinct took over and I grabbed the fucker by the neck and choked it to death, burning my hands in the process.”
“You killed a husk with your bare hands?” Kaidan says disbelievingly.
“Yeah. I wouldn’t recommend it.” Zyn says as she lifts her wrapped hands.
Kaidan laughs and then smiles at her, “You never cease to amaze me Zyn. I love you.”
“What?” Zyn says suddenly looking up into his eyes.
Kaidan stuttered and turned red. “Uh…um, yeah.”
“Kaidan? Say it again, please.” Zyn says softly.
“I love you, Zyn. I have for some time.” Kaidan says softly in return.
Zyn changes her position and straddles Kaidan’s lap and wraps her arms around his neck keeping her bandaged hands crossed at the wrist. After making herself comfortable, she smirks when she notices that Kaidan has gotten distracted by the neck of her robe opening with her new position letting him get a brief glimpse of her nipples as she repositioned herself. Kaidan truly tries to focus on her, but the prospect of a naked Zyn in his lap is making any coherent thought not possible. “We are good together.” Zyn says kissing his cheek.

After several long minutes of cuddling, he sighs and says, “I guess I should go.”
“What? Why?” Zyn says pushing herself up so she can fully look at him.
“Uh…to go sleep in my pod?” Kaidan asks hesitantly, “Do you want me to stay?”
“Oh, right. I understand, now, what you mean. I kind of forgot that we are on the ship,” Zyn looks at him sheepishly. “When I’m around you, I kind of forget everything else.”
“That is exactly how I feel around you. Trust me, I don’t want to leave,” Kaidan says as he tips her head up to kiss her lips again, briefly.
Zyn cups the back of his head as he pulls away and kisses him more thoroughly and says, “Then don’t. Everyone else can just fuck off. It’s not as if the whole ship doesn’t know about us.”
“True.”
Zyn snuggles into his body; laying her head on his shoulder and wrapping her arm around his middle to gently run her hand over his side, making him shiver. “Stay. I want to wake up in your arms.”
