Love is a Many Splendored Thing...

Summary:

This is Part 4 of the 'It's in the Little Things...' series. This vignette does not stand on its own. To understand the relationships, please read from Part 1.

This scene includes part of the 'UNC: Colony of the Dead' mission and is rated 'M' for explicit language and implied violence.

This Part further explains the nuances of my Shepard, just how utterly cheeky she can be. It also explores that without the people who support her, the magnitude of her mission might just be too much to bear alone.

Notes:

A/N: Bioware owns all. I'm just adlibbing a bit.

Chapter 1: Matano System: Chasca

Chapter Text

After a spectacular 360 degree landing off a mountain ledge on their way to something interesting, no doubt, Kaidan looked at his smug girlfriend in the driver’s seat and was about to say something, when she raises one of her eyebrows and says, “What, you were going to say something, Kaidan?”

Kaidan glowers at her making her laugh and says, “Nope.”

Wrex leans down from the turret seat and looks at the two lovebirds starring at each other. “Care to share?”

“It’s nothing, Wrex. I was just reminding Kaidan about the bet that he lost a while ago.” Zyn says as she turns back around and starts driving the Mako over the rough terrain again.

Wrex chuckles loudly making Kaidan look back at him and frown, “What is so funny?”

“I’m surprised you haven’t learned yet, not to take any of her bets,” Wrex says looking at him as if he’s not very bright.

“Why?”

“Cause she always wins, kid. Get used to it,” Wrex informs him as if it’s obvious.

“Excuse me? She didn’t win the bet regarding…uh,” clearing his throat suddenly remembering who he is talking to, “You know…regarding when Zyn and I would be…you know?”

Wrex just stares at Kaidan and then grins evilly, “Ha! Keep telling yourself that.”

“Huh?” Kaidan says clearly confused.

“She was the one who started it, idiot.”

Kaidan blanches at Wrex’s derogatory manner and says, “Again, huh?”

“Did you ever wonder why she never answered your calls on her omni-tool? After the husk incident?” Wrex says slowly and then laughs when he notices that Kaidan is finally getting what he’s saying. When Kaidan blinks and looks awestruck at Zyn, Wrex adds, “Duh!” before turning back towards his weapons display.

“You can shut up now, Wrex.” Zyn says threateningly.

Kaidan looks at her with his mouth open, clearly shocked that she set the whole thing up. “You knew that I would come to you. You contacted Wrex and let him know that his prediction was correct. No, wait, you set that up too! You told him to make the bet, for you.”

Wincing slightly, she says, “Mad?”

Kaidan grins at her. “No. Not, at all. You’re a devious minx, aren’t you?” He gifts her with a full throttled smile that gets her heartrate going. After Zyn smiles at him and winks in return, making him laugh out loud, he asks curiously, “What about Joker?”

“Well, that was just a plus. I didn’t know that he was planning to keep us frustrated until he won the bet. He’s almost as devious as me. I have to give him kudos for trying, though.” Zyn says fondly.

“I heard that.” Joker chimed in grumpily, revealing that he was listening in on their conversation, which apparently he did from time to time.

“I knew you were listening, Flight Lieutenant. Just don’t crash the ship and we’re even.”

“Roger that, Commander.”

Kaidan, Zyn, and Wrex chuckle in response.
