[Jiraiya X Tsunade] The Kiss

Summary:

Tsunade and Jiraiya’s playful banter over a foolish sake bet turns unexpectedly tender. Jiraiya loses, giving Tsunade the chance to claim her “prize,” but instead of mockery, the moment shifts into vulnerability and long-buried affection. A hesitant kiss breaks their usual rhythm of teasing, revealing the warmth beneath their bickering. What began as a silly challenge ends with Tsunade accepting Jiraiya’s invitation, their bond deepening in a quiet, unspoken promise.

Work Text:

It was a stupid bet. Of course it was. Everything with Jiraiya seemed to start that way.

"Just one cup of sake," he'd said, leaning back on his chair, a cocky grin on his face. "One cup. If I win, you owe me dinner. If you win, I'll... I'll buy you a whole new set of ninja tools."

Tsunade had narrowed her eyes. It was a terrible offer, she knew. He was a terrible liar. But the glint in his eye, the way he was trying so hard to act nonchalant... she couldn't resist. She was never one to back down from a challenge.

"And what if I win, but you don't have the money?" she'd challenged, a playful smirk dancing on her lips.

He'd just laughed, a deep, rumbling sound that made her insides do a strange little flip. "Then, my dear, you can do whatever you want with me."

"You are such an idiot," she'd muttered, but she took the bet anyway. She'd always been a sucker for his ridiculousness.

He'd lost, of course. He'd barely made it through half the cup before his face went beet red and his eyes started to cross. Tsunade had just sat there, calmly sipping her own cup of tea, a smug look on her face.

"Told you," she'd said, a small laugh escaping her lips.

"Okay, okay, you win," he'd grumbled, his head propped up on his hand. "So... what are you gonna do with me?"

The silence that followed was heavy, thick with unspoken words and the clinking of teacups. Tsunade looked at him, really looked at him. The way his hair was a mess, the way his cheeks were flushed from the alcohol, the way his lips were parted just slightly as he waited for her answer.

Her heart pounded in her chest, a frantic little drum against her ribs. She was a Sannin, one of the most powerful kunoichi in the world, and yet, here she was, her hands trembling slightly as she stared at this man. This ridiculous, idiotic, wonderful man.

She reached out, her hand hovering over his cheek for a moment before she finally rested it against his skin. He leaned into her touch, his eyes fluttering shut.

"I've been waiting for this," he whispered, his voice hoarse.

Tsunade didn't say anything. She just leaned in, her eyes on his lips. His eyes opened, a flash of surprise, then something else, something warm and tender. He met her halfway, his lips soft and tentative against hers. It was an awkward, clumsy kiss, a mix of fumbled movements and a jumble of tangled emotions.

His hand came up, resting on the back of her neck, his thumb stroking her skin. It was just a little thing, but it sent a shiver down her spine. The kiss deepened, becoming more confident, more sure. It was a jolt of electricity, a fire igniting in her veins.

When they finally broke apart, they were both breathless. Tsunade's cheeks were flushed, her lips tingling. She couldn't look at him, her gaze fixed on the table, on a stray tea leaf that had fallen from her cup.

"So... I guess you don't have to buy me dinner anymore," she said, her voice a little shaky.

Jiraiya just laughed, a soft, happy sound. He took her hand in his, his fingers lacing with hers.

"No," he said, his voice a low rumble. "But you still have to let me take you out."

Tsunade finally looked at him, a shy smile on her face. "Okay, you big idiot," she said, her heart full. "Okay."
