Truth or Dare?

Summary:

“Truth or dare?” He mumbles awkwardly and watches as Dazai sits back down, too.

“Truth.”

Chuuya frowns as he reads the question to himself.

“What’s wrong?” Dazai asks.

“It’s just… Never mind. The question is; ‘What’s your biggest fear?’”

He can see Dazai’s gears turn in his head. Probably thinking about telling the truth or just lie.

Or: After a mission Dazai and Chuuya play Truth or Dare in a warehouse.

Work Text:

“Damnit Dazai. You could’ve at least tried to dodge the damn bullet.” Chuuya says as he feels more and more weight be put onto his shoulder.

“I didn’t feel like it! I thought ‘maybe this can be a good way to die!’

Chuuya narrows his eyes, they both know that the brunet could’ve dodged if he wanted to.

In the end he sighs. “Fuck it, let’s just patch you up.”

Dazai lets out an empty giggle, though quickly stops as more blood sprouts out of his gunshot wound.

“Seriously Chuuya, this is stupid.”

They enter one of the Port Mafia’s warehouses. It’s not really a warehouse, it’s more for members if they get hurt on a mission. Though low ranks are not allowed in here.

Chuuya sets Dazai down on the couch before he goes to the medickit to get some new bandages and stitches.

When he comes back he sees that damn bastard having laid down instead of sitting up. “Ah Chuuya, maybe I should just wait to bleed out instead.”

“As much as I agree with you, the boss told me to get you back to the office alive and well.”

“You already broke half of that promise, why not just break the whole promise?”

Chuuya snorts and pushes Dazai’s feet off the couch so that he also gets some space to sit on. “Sit up.”

“I don’t wanna~” The brunet whines.

“I don’t care.” The redhead grabs Dazai’s wrist and drags him up, ignoring the complaining he gets. “Take your shirt off.”

Dazai smirks, “my my Chuuya~ Atleast ask me on a date first.”

“Huh?” Not realizing what he said.

“You literally asked me to take my shirt off, do you know how seduc-”

“Ah- No not that way!” He cuts off the sentence that will never be said out loud again. “It’s because of your wound you bastard!”

“Chuuya is blushing.”

“When hell freezes over! Now stop avoiding the topic and take your damn shirt off, you already made me repeat myself, so do it.” His voice leaves no room for argument.

And so, Dazai’s shirt is now laying on the floor, looking abandoned.  If Chuuya didn’t know better he would’ve thought that someone had sex in here and decided to leave their clothes behind.

“We don’t have painkillers so you’ll have to survive getting stitches without some.”

“Does Chuuya think I’m a baby? I already – sadly – survives getting shot.”

“Mhm.” The redhead is already busy making sure the needle is at the right temperature before he turns back to Dazai who is already staring at him.

“What are you staring at?”

“Chuuya making sure that the needle is actually the right temperature. Say, who taught you that?” The brunet narrows his eyes.

“No one, It’s just basic knowledge.”

“Sure.” It’s almost said more sarcastically than when he jokes about suicide, not even trying to hide that he doesn’t believe him.

Chuuya ignores and sits closer to him. He gives him a quick glance before gesturing to his arm. “Put your damn arm over the back of the couch or something, it’s in the way.”

Dazai scoffs but still does as told. And so, Chuuya begins to sew together the bullethole. With the first prick Dazai only does a small flinch, it’s nothing new, Chuuya has also been flinching whenever he gets pricked when he needs stitches. It’s a bodily reaction.

“Shit.” Dazai hisses.

“Shut up, I need to concentrate.”

He quickly finishes up. And Dazai looks like he has seen a light from the afterlife. In reality it was just the lightbump of the warehouse.

“Are you done with your ‘is this the afterlife’ moment?” Chuuya snorts.

“Never~”

Chuuya gives Dazai a look, showing that he is not about to entertain him with bickering. “I’m hungry as hell, let's eat.”

“I’m not~ So you can have fun eating by yourself, all alone.”

The redhead narrows his eyes. “You’ve been shot, we’ve been on this mission for about two hours and you probably didn’t eat before we even went on this mission.”

“Is Chuuya worried about me?”

“We can play a game or something if you so much as eat a little.” He suggests.

“It depends on what we eat~”

“Crab.” Dazai makes eye contact with Chuuya as he continues, “I’m sure we got some here. If I remember correctly from last time.”

“Fine. But only if it’s crab!”

Chuuya leaves to go into the kitchen and check. Luckily, they did have some crabs so he decided he could make something with that.

Which he did. Chuuya has now made fried rice with crab. So now that damn bastard doesn’t have any excuse as to why he doesn’t want to eat.

“Food’s ready.”

The brunet limps into the kitchen, “What did Chibi make?”

“Fried rice with crab, so you ain’t got no excuse as to why you don’t wanna eat now.”

“Life’s sad.”

They sit down on the small table stationed in the kitchen.

“Chuuya said we could play a game if I eat. So let’s do that!”

The redhead internally sighs, of course he did. He was kind of desperate to get the brunet to eat. He didn’t want him to pass out right after the stitches. But If he eats then he should keep his word. “Fine, what’s the game you wanna play?”

“Truth or Dare!”

Chuuya looks up at that. Truth or Dare? That’s the last game he thought Dazai would want to play because of how secretive that bastard is.

“Okay…? Do we choose the questions ourselves?”

“Nope! Lets use an app to decide!”

“Uh sure, you got it installed already or..?”

“Yepp!” Dazai pops the ‘p’.

Of course he already had it installed. That bastard is ready for anything no matter what.

“Fine, but we have one rule.” Chuuya adds as Dazai picks up his phone from his coat. “You have to atleast take one bite after each question.”

“Ugh, fine.”

“First question is?” Chuuya asks.

“It’s obvious…. Truth or Dare, Chibi?”

“Truth.”

“Ah, the most boring one.” The brunet sighs before he reads the question with a smirk. “Have you ever faked being sick to get out of work?”

“Actually, I don’t think I have. What about you?”

“Ah ah ah~ It was only your turn Chuuya.”

“Tch, then give me the phone and let me read your question.” Dazai pushes his phone over the table to Chuuya.

“Truth or Dare, Mackerel?”

“Truth~”

“And you call me boring…” Chuuya clears his throat. “Who is the oldest person you’ve met?”

“Hm… I think it would be…” Dazai trails off his words, as he always does when he’s about to lie. “Hirotsu!”

“Lies.”

“And how would you know?”

“You wasted one too much second before answering.”

“Geez Chuuya. Stalker much?”

“I’m not stalking you! It’s just that I’ve known you for two years now – sadly – so it’s easy for me to know!”

“I’ll pretend I believe you~”

“Tch your turn to ask.” He slides the phone back to its owner.

“Hm, truth or dare?”

“Truth. Oh and take a damn bite you asshole! You thought I would forget, didn't ya?!”

“Tch.” Dazai picks up his spoon and takes a small bite. “The question is… ‘If you had to pick someone you know to be your gameshow partner, who would it be?’”

Chuuya hums in thought before he answers. “I mean, as much as I hate to admit it you’re pretty smart so if you knew what we were gonna be asked I’m sure you’d know the answers, so you.”

Dazai nods proudly. “How very kind of you, my dear dog.”

“I’m not your dog.” Chuuya mumbles. “Truth or Dare?”

“Truth.”

“Seriously, are we both just gonna choose truth all the time?”

“I won’t choose dare if Chuuya doesn’t.”

“...”

“...”

“For real?”

“Yes.”

“How is that fair?”

Dazai only shrugs. “Read the question so that we can continue, will ya?”

And so, Chuuya does. “What would you do if you knew there would be no consequences?”

Dazai stills before he mumbles something that was probably only meant for himself and no one else to hear. “No consequences, huh?”

Chuuya’s eyes narrow but he keeps quiet, letting the brunet turn the gears in his head.

“Probably… Killing myself.”

There was something in his tone, even though it sounded as a joke, but Chuuya chooses not to pry. “You’d do that anyway.”

“Excactly~”

He sighs, “so that’s your answer?”

“Yes.”

“Alright, your turn.”

Dazai grabs his phone and asks, “truth or dare?”

“Dare.”

The brunet smirks as he reads the question. “Describe the sexiest clothing you ever wore and why.”

“Ugh…” Chuuya groans at the memories, “it was for a mission where I had to seduce some old guy because he had a diamond that boss wanted for some reason.”

Dazai’s expression darkens, “yeah, I remember that mission.”

“You weren’t even there.”

“I was, Mori-san told me to hide in one of the corners in case something didn’t go according to plan.”

“Oh.”

“Yeah.”

They sit in an awkward silence for a while, neither wanting to remember the old pervert.

Chuuya sighs, “give me the phone.”

He does.

“Truth or dare?”

“Since Chuuya picked dare then I’ll too.”

“Ok,” he snorts as he reads the question, “imitate another person in your life and let the other player guess who it is.”

“Sigh… I guess I’ll do it.” Dazai stands up and clears his throat before he begins. “Only a diamond can polish another diamond.”

“Boss.”

“Yupp!”

“C’mon that was too easy, do a harder one.”

“Fine~” Dazai rolls his shoulders, “I’m fifteen! I’m still growing!”

Chuuya swears he can see red. He uses his ability to float one of the wine glasses – which is standing on the counter – and flings it towards Dazai, that bastard dodges as if he knew Chuuya was gonna do that.

“How violent, Chuuya.” He smirks.

“Fuck you. Your turn to ask.”

Dazai hums and sits back down. “Truth or dare.”

“Dare.”

“Oh this is easy for you.”

“What is it?”

“Do twenty squads.”

“Only?”

“Yupp apparently, that’s what the wheel spun.”

“Uh ok.” He stands up and does twenty squads within thirty seconds. “Done.”

“Oh to be as strong as chibi~”

“You’re just weak.”

“I’m not! It’s just that for some reason your body is stronger than it should be!”

“Mhm.”

“It’s true, don’t forget that I can actually keep up with you in sparring.”

“That's because you predict my moves.”

Dazai snorts, “but I still need to move while predicting your moves, if I must remind you, you are pretty fast when you’re serious or mad.”

Chuuya frowns, he’s got a point. “Tch, whatever. Truth or Dare?”

“Truth.”

“Oh? Are you scared now?”

“No, I just feel like doing the same thing over and over again will make it less interesting.”

“Oh this will be interesting,” Chuuya smirks and reads the question, “Have you ever caught feelings for someone you shouldn’t?”

Dazai snorts, “what kinda question is that?”

“A question you must answer.”

“No. I haven’t.” It’s unlike Dazai to be serious when talking so he must be telling the truth.

“Oh? What about all the girls you’ve left crying? Did you not have any feelings for those either?”

Dazai smirks at the memory. “Nope.”

“Jeez, Ane-san would’ve killed you if she knew.”

“Meh, those girls were only one night stands anyways.”

“You literally made them hopeful of long term relationships."

“Their fault for trusting me.”

Chuuya frowns, “Do you have some type of grudge against women?”

Dazai only shrugs. “My turn to ask. Truth or Dare?”

Chuuya knows better than to pry when Dazai doesn’t want to say anything anymore. “I guess I’ll go for truth too then.”

“Have you ever flirted to get something?”

“No, except for missions. But you could’ve definitely done so.”

Dazai hums before he gives the phone back to Chuuya. “Truth.”

“I didn’t even ask yet.”

“I’m just jumping the gun a little.”

“Uh this is starting to become a little weird… ‘Who would you call for a “no question asked” hookup?’”

Dazai scoffs. “No one.”

“Not even one of the girls you’ve had a one night stand with from before?”

“Nah.”

“Dare. I’m jumping the gun too if you do.”

Dazai glances at him before smiling and reading the question. “Show the most recent picture in your cameraroll.”

Chuuya doesn’t say anything and only rattles through his pocket to get his private phone which he doesn’t use for work. He opens the gallery and sees many selfies taken together with Dazai. It’s not often they do take selfies and mostly do it when they’re done with missions – and not too badly hurt afterwards – as some type of a celebration.

The newest one is one they took a month ago. They had just done a mission against some new organization who thought they could mess with the Port Mafia because they also had a few ability users. Of course, they failed and got taken down by two teens within a few minutes.

Chuuya scoffs and enters the first picture, then he turns the phone around to show Dazai. He smirks when he sees the picture.

“Ah, that.”

“Yepp.”

“We should take a picture this time too. I mean, sure we’re both hurt but we’re alive – sadly – and should keep the tradition~”

“Sure I guess.” Chuuya stands up and walks over to Dazai’s side of the table. “You take the picture.”

“Is Chuuya finally admitting that he’s too short to take a picture if we’re both standing?”

“Just do it damnit!”

Dazai giggles and stands up beside Chuuya. He takes the phone out of the redhead’s hand and wraps an arm around his shoulders, bringing him close. Snap and the picture is taken. “There. Happy now?”

The brunet looks down at Chuuya who turns his head to look up at him. They stand in silence staring at each other for who knows how long. Before Chuuya clears his throat in an awkward manner and snatches his phone out of Dazai’s hand. He then goes to sit back down, ignoring the weird sensation in his stomach.

“I don’t have any.” The brunet settles for.

“Everyone has something they’re scared of, it’s a human emotion-”

They both still at that. The words hang in the air.

Dazai scoffs, “I know that Chuuya. Infact I use it when I torture people!”

“Ah, right, of course. Now answer the question.”

“I won’t.”

“If I do, will you?” Chuuya might aswell try and see what might get the brunet to open up, somehow.

Dazai seems to think about it, but settles for a no, making Chuuya sigh before spinning the wheel again. “What do you want to be remembered for most in life?”

“Ain’t I already remembered for being the demon prodigy?” Dazai tilts his head.

“I mean yeah, sort of. But don’t you want to be remembered for something else too?”

“Like what?”

“I don’t know? That’s why I’m asking you.”

“What will Chuuya remember me as?”

“An annoying prick who never leaves me alone.”

Dazai smirks at that. “Good! Then I am doing my job well.”

Chuuya scoffs. “Your turn.”

“Truth or Dare?”

“Truth.”

Dazai’s face drops, “we don’t have to do this question, let me roll the wheel again.”

“Huh? Nah let me see.”

“No Chuuya. No need.”

“Stop being an annoying bastard and show me.” Chuuya snatches the phone out of Dazai’s hand and reads the question. ‘Personality wise, are you more like your dad or mom?’

“Oh.”

“That’s why I told you that we could change the question.” Dazai carefully grabs the phone back. “Sigh, why do you never listen to me, Chuuya?”

“...”

The brunet grimaces, “Chibi is too dramatic sometimes, maybe you should stop being so dramatic to be able to grow!”

“Hah?! I only have a late growth spurt! Just you wait and I'll be taller than you when we’re twenty!”

Dazai smiles as he’s able to change the topic. “I just hope I won’t be alive till I’m twenty!”

“Whatever. I choose truth.”

He clears his throat and reads the question. “What’s been your most physically painful experience?”

“Uhm… Probably corruption.”

Dazai nods, “sounds reasonable. Dare.”

Chuuya raises an eyebrow before looking at the phone. “Uh.”

“What?”

“It says ‘Hug the person to your left for ten seconds’.”

“...”

“I’ll roll a new one…”

“Nah don’t bother.”

“Huh?”

“I'll give my dog a hug~”

“It’s just a dare, Dazai.”

“But there’s no one else here is there?” The brunet looks around in a playful manner.

“There isn’t.”

“Sigh, let’s do it like this then, Chuuya. Each time one person doesn’t do the dare or won’t answer the question then they need to drink. I’m sure we got some alcohol here.”

“Okay… And the person who drinks the most loses?”

“Yupp.”

And so, it was no longer a game to get Dazai to eat. It became a drinking game instead.

“Sigh… so hug it is then.” Dazai stands up and opens his arms for Chuuya.

“This is gonna be so uncomfortable.”

“I know! You’re not alone with that opinion Chuuya~”

“Tch.” The redhead walks over to Dazai and feels two arms wrap around him. Oh. When was the last time someone hugged him? He doesn’t know, nor remember. Has anyone ever hugged him before? Did his mother or father do so before he was kidnapped and made into a lab rat?

“Chuuya.”

“What?”

“I can hear the gears turning in your head.”

“Shut up.”

Neither of them knows how long it’s been but it’s been longer than ten seconds but neither of them wants to let go. There was something comforting about the hug. No comments. No teasing. Just them.

Just two teens who never experienced parental love the way they should’ve.

Just two teens who care about each other even though they’ll never admit it.

Just two teens who know nothing but everything about each other.

Just two teens who will put their lives into each other's hands.

Just two bodies with one soul.
