Work Text:

Pausing at the door, Wyll turned around, glancing upwards for a second before addressing Karlach, “My apologies again, I did not realize my inquiries were unwanted to such a degree.”

“Aw, don’t worry yourself about it. He’ll get over it. ‘Sides, we can just blame Gale for bringing it up in the first place if he doesn’t!”

Once their last guest departed finally, Karlach shut the door, stepping back to look up. “You gonna come down from there now?”

“Only if you properly assure me each and every visitor is gone and not returning.” Astarion was sitting in the middle of the ceiling, arms crossed. “With their inane unending queries.”

“Aw, I thought it was sweet Wyll checked up for us to see if an undead and living person marriage is even legally recognized!”

“I’m sure other vampire spawn will be overjoyed at the news… I should make sure Violet knows, once she does everyone down there will…” he muttered as he made his way to the wall.

Karlach watched him, grinning, then once he was halfway down the wall chirped out, “Now tell me why you don’t want to get married, Fangs!”

“Do… you wish to?” he stopped, raising one eyebrow.

“I want to know why you don’t!”

Astarion glared at her, tapping one foot.

“I know you don’t, because if you did you would have asked me after everybody kept bringing it up, just to be sure. But you didn’t! So, you don’t!”

“I do not understand it. The point of it.”

Karlach tilted her head to the side, walking closer.

“I understand the want of a wedding, a grand party? An excuse to wear the most amazing fineries? Why… I would have no less than three garment changes during the festivities! But marriage? Hrm.” he paced back and forth, Karlach ducking to allow him to pass unhindered.

“Husband and wife… I have mostly heard those labels used as flimsy excuses; utterances said only so the one I was luring, be it to the pleasure chambers or the palace itself, could lie to themselves. Building a fiction, where they had thought of their supposed love one, but alas, the temptation was too great…”

“Yaaaah, I can see how that’d put a taint on the whole shebang.” She held her arms out, directly underneath him.

He pivoted to face the ceiling before releasing from the wall, falling into her waiting arms. “Somewhat. Yes.” Looking up at her, he hesitated for a moment, then said with a smirk, “You never answered my question either. Do you wish to?”

“Naw, not really. Maybe one day.”

“And what is your reason?”

“Don’t really have one! Doesn’t feel like a thing to do right now!” She said with a shrug, giving him a quick kiss before setting him down. “Maybe every time somebody fucking nags us about it, I want to less!”

“Ah, spite anti-marriage. Yes. I am changing my answer to that.”

“Hey no that’s mine, no copying!”
