Chapter Text
You watch your parents drive off and wave them goodbye. It was your second year in college. Initially, your parents were less than thrilled that you chose to go to school three hours away from home, but you got a good scholarship and already had an established relationship with a professor there. You check your phone to see that your roommate Zoë had just finished moving in, and her grandma had also just left.“I can’t believe we’re actually sophomores.” You sigh, flopping on your bed.
Zoë was only a few weeks older than you, and the two of you had met during your freshman year of high school. When you guys met, you found out that the two of you had been into the same shows, games, and you listened to similar music, so you just clicked. Ever since that moment, the two of you have been joined at the hip. She was quite protective of you and constantly babied you, despite the two of you 1. being the same age 2. Your birthday’s being just a few weeks apart. She also loves to hold the elder card over you.
“I know, did your mom cry when they left?” Zoë laughs at your mom.
“Now you know she did. She cries everytime” You say, sitting up and facing her side of the room. Your dorm room was average-sized, but a bit bigger than the others. You both were able to divide the room evenly. Her side was decked out in anime and game posters, pillowcases, and sheets pink to match the rug and half her wardrobe. Your side was more wacky, covered in pictures of you and your friends, as well as a funny tapestry behind your bed. Zoë to you and everyone else was an all-around bad bitch. She was the first in your high school friend group to get a tattoo and was usually the one motivating you to go outside. “What time is that hall meeting?” You ask, fixing your braids in the mirror, “Also when is our suitemate supposed to be back, I saw that she put toilet paper in the bathroom and a rug down.” You lived in a suite-style dorm. You shared a room with Zoë, but a bathroom with another girl named Nobara, and the bathroom connected her room to yours.
“Uh I think she said around six, she was going to grab some groceries. Also, hall meeting’s at six-thirty.” You look at your phone, a picture of you and your cat, Phoenix, staring back at you.
“So we have three hours to walk around campus?” You sigh, turning to look out the window. Jujutsu University was by no means a small school, and you all were lucky enough to snag a dorm that was in the center of campus. Academic buildings, fraternity and sorority houses, restaurants and cafës, all within walking distance.
The path behind your dorm hall, Hearts Haven, leads down a rocky, winding road that gets you to Main Street. You and Zoë find multiple students, some with their parents, walking or driving, seemingly exploring. As the two of you are walking, you end up bumping into a tall girl with long brown hair, who reeks of cigarette smoke. “Oh shit, my bad.” The girl says as she picks up your phone, which had fallen during the collision.
“Yeah, no I’m all good.” You grab your phone from her; thankfully, no scratches on it. “No cracks or anything.” The girl apologizes before running down the street. “God I hate smokers, they smell bad all the time.” Zoë says, crossing her arms as you both continue exploring. “Bitch you literally smoke. Like every other two days.” You playfully hit her shoulder.
“Yeah, but do I smell like weed, like is it a smell that lingers on everything? Exactly.” All you can do is roll your eyes as you two continue walking through your college town. You two end up stopping in a small cafë near the north library. “Shadow’s Pastries. Wanna go in?” Zoë asks, scrolling on her phone.
“Why not?’ You shrug before walking in. Seems popular, judging by the waves of people in line and sitting at the booths. The cafe was decorated in white floral wallpaper, with a black plank floor to match. There were decals of random animals splattered across the shop and numerous amounts of plants line the ceilings and floors. You two end up standing in line for quite some time, before making your way to the register. “Uh.. I’ll have two chocolate donuts and one Divine Latte, please!” You tap the counter faintly as the cashier, whose nametag reads “Tsumiki,” rings you up. “Okay, that’ll be seven ninety-three. Is that all for you today?”
You hand her the money and wait for Zoë to order her food. You two end up finding an empty booth in the busy café and chow down on your food. “This Divine Latte is so fire.” You say, sipping your coffee. “You’re gonna be shitty as hell later on, you know that right.”
You toss a napkin at her before laughing. “What’s your class schedule like and what time do you wanna pick up our books?” You ask, looking up your own class schedule.
“Okay so I have Psych 256 at 1:00, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays-”
“Same!”
“Then I have Intro to Painting at 2:15 on Wednesdays and Fridays, and that’s two hours. After that, I have two math classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays which are also two hours.” Zoë sighs, sipping her own drink before groaning.
“I would hate your schedule, other than psych, I have a sociology class on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, a history class on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and then an english class Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. I love myself and gave myself Thursday off.” You cheerfully do a little dance as Zoë flips you off from the other side of the booth. After your first semester of college, whenever you were choosing which classes to take, you made sure you could have at least one day a week where you weren’t totally swamped in classes. This semester your class schedule allowed for you to have no classes on Thursdays.
“I hope you go to hell.” You laugh at Zoe, her curls shaking as she shakes her head in annoyance. Your phone dings alerting you to a new text message from Nobara. You read the text before clearing your trash so you two can leave. “Nobara just texted in the group chat, saying she’s on her way back.” You show her the chat with your suitemates.
“We can’t stay here a little longer?’
“Get your lazy ass up.” You yank her out of the booth before heading back to Heart’s Haven. You walk into your room before heading through the bathroom to knock on her door. “Come in!”
You open the door to see two guys putting down bags of groceries, as Nobara puts stuff away in her mini fridge. “Hey, welcome!” She says, shoving the two guys aside to give you both a hug. She pulls back allowing you two to get a look at her outfit. She’s wearing white tee, underneath some beige overall shorts, she’s not wearing any shoes, but you’re assuming the white crocs in the corner are hers. “These are my friends, Yuji Itadori and Megumi Fushiguro. They’re kinda losers so ignore them, really.”
“These losers just drove you to get all this stuff Nobara.” The pink-haired one, Itadori, you’re assuming, flicks her arm as he continues putting her stuff away in the fridge. Itadori and Megumi are both the same height, but they’re way taller than Nobara. They’re dressed similar too, appropriate for the weather. Itadori’s wearing some graphic tee of a rapper, who looks familiar but you can’t put a name on him, some jorts and Nike’s. Megumi on the other hand is decked out in a plain black t-shirt and some baggy sweats, also sporting some Nike’s.
“That’s what guy friends are supposed to do, genius.” Nobara hits him back. The other one, Megumi, stands in between them, seemingly preventing them from getting into a fight. “Nice to meet you both and yes, they are always like this.” You two step further in the room as Nobara encourages you to sit down on the opposite bed she’s decorated. You two introduce yourselves before jumping onto the lofted bed.
“I can’t believe we’ve never seen each other before?” Itadori asks, then quickly shakes his head. “Well, I mean it’s a big campus. I lived with Zoë last year and I never saw her outside of our dorm.” You shrug
“This bed is comfortable as hell.” Zoë shifts getting more comfortable and relaxing against the pillows. Nobara laughs, then smiles and points at the bed. “Yeah I had an extra mattress topper in here, so if one of you needs to crash in here, for…whatever just sleep there.”
Megumi’s phone dings as he digs it out of his pocket and checks it. “Ah shit, Yuji we gotta dip. Hall meeting starting in a few.”
Itadori groans before picking up his keys and saluting y’all, as he and Megumi walk out. “See you later, Nobara.”
“They live on the opposite side of the building.” She says, picking up her phone, “So how’s y‘alls day been so far?” She flops onto her bed, scrolling through the apps.
“It’s been chill, our families drove us up here together, we unpacked, walked around, she got bulldozed by some smoker-”
“Bitch that was so unnecessary.” You shake your head, hitting her shoulder again.
“Anyways, so we ended up hanging out at this cafë, Shadow’s Delicacies, and now we’re here.” Zoë says rubbing her shoulder like you actually did some damage. Whenever she says something out of pocket you usually flick or hit her. Just a few love taps you like to say.
Nobara slightly sits up, facing you both, “This cafë…is it near 3rd Street and Junior’s that hot dog spot?” She asks. You two nod before confirming. “Oh shit! Megumi’s older sister works there. I wish yall would’ve told me! I love that place, I would’ve taken a latte.” She groans before sighing like she was just told the worst news ever. “Speaking of hall meetings, ours is starting in a few too. Ready to meet our RA?” She asks, sitting up fully and hopping off her bed.
“Yeah,” Zoë stretches before sliding off the bed and heading towards the door. Your dorm hallway is wide, with two tables with four chairs around them and two couches in the middle of the room. Across the hall, two doors down, it’s your RA’s room. The name card reads, “Utahime.” You all sit on the couches as the others come out of their rooms. Utahime finally comes out of her room before standing in the middle of the hallway. She’s not that short, with long black hair and a scar that goes across her nose bridge.
“Hey guys, if you all didn’t read the name on my door, my name’s Utahime, and I’m your RA for the school year! My rules are simple: please don’t cause too much trouble, don’t be too loud after quiet hours, and if you’re underage, please don’t let me or campus safety catch you drinking. Other than that, standard dorm rules apply.” She says, before abruptly ending the meeting.
“Now she knows that could’ve been solved in an email.” You text in your groupchat with Nobara and Zoë. The two of them laugh quietly as you roll your eyes, standing up to walk back into Nobara’s room. Zoë randomly taps you really hard, and as you turn around to yell at her, you see the smoker girl from before, and two really tall guys. One with black hair longer than yours, the other’s hair pure snow white, slightly covered by the hat he was wearing. You hit her before walking back into the room. “Zoë you’re like unnecessarily messy.”
“What do you mean?” She and Nobara ask at the same time. “The girl who ran into me earlier had walked in and Zoë tapped me hard as hell. She was with two tall guys. One had long black hair and the other had short white hair,” You shrug. Nobara sighs before rubbing her face. “Does the girl have really long brown hair and have a mole on her chin and was she heading towards Utahime’s room?”
“Uh, yes I think?” You respond. You honestly didn’t get a good look at her face when you ran into her, and you didn’t see where they were going. “Damn bitch, you ran into Shoko, Gojo and Geto?” Nobara laughs. “I should’ve known when Zoë said a smoker bitch.”
“Nobara..respectfully who the fuck are those people?” Zoë asks.
