Chapter Text

Caitlyn has been stuck like this for four years now.

Every night for those four years had been the exact same, looking up at that stupid ceiling fan. She had nothing going on for herself anymore, stuck as somebody's wife instead of being her own person. God she hated every part of it, every part of herself, what she had become.

It wasn’t always like this.

She had once almost escaped her life, everything was finally looking up for once.

She had escaped her parents, her mothers grasp, and gone to Cambridge university.

She was smart. Really smart. She was so close to becoming a lawyer, her dream since she was a little girl. She always wanted to help people.

But now she had become the very thing she hated most in life. Somebody's wife. Nothing more.

Instead, she was stuck to an eternity of watching the fan of her extravagant ceiling go round, and round, and round, each night like clockwork, at 4:44am every single day.

There was just roughly an hour and a bit until she had to be up to put her makeup on and make her husband, Clyde, breakfast.

Clyde was a nice enough man, she got lucky enough that he has never become physical to her, unlike some of the women in her social class who have an extra stock of concealer in their bathroom cabinets. However she was made to look “presentable” and cook for him as he deemed fit. This was his world, she was just living in it.

Caitlyn knew she liked women. She had known that since she was 11, but what she also knew was that it did not matter. She knew damn well that she would be married to a man eventually, no matter how much her heart yearned for a woman's touch. At least she had a few years to experience it, even if those few years of freedom made her want it just that much more.

Caitlyn's mother wanted her to marry Clyde. One day she had come up to her saying she found a man for her, so she agreed to make her mother happy. Now she just cannot believe she actually went through with it, unaware of the outcomes.

As soon as Clyde put that obnoxiously large diamond on her finger, he let her know she was his, forcing her to drop out of university, drop all friends he did not “approve” of. Her life was officially his, and she was left reminiscing on those ephemeral years when she was actually free.

Caitlyn’s life may have looked perfect, large mansion, a husband to buy her anything her heart desired, however it meant nothing to her when she was truly stuck in this life where (with what she thought) there was nowhere to go.

As Caitlyn slowly turned her head to gaze softly at her bedside table, she realised it was 5:30, and she should get up if she was to get ready and make breakfast for Clyde before he woke up. She had made the mistake before of not having it ready, and he got rather mad, so Caitlyn now always has it ready on time to not upset him.

Caitlyn slowly slid off of the bed before heading to the en suite to do her makeup to perfection.

Before heading to the kitchen, she glanced down one last time to the giant ring on her finger, not symbolising love like she may have once hoped, but control.

Caitlyn was making eggs and bacon before she thought a thought she thinks a thousand times each day, why doesn't she tell anyone about her life? Not even her best friends Jayce and Mel know what day to day is truly like for Caitlyn, why don't they know?

However she does know the answer to that question. No one would truly understand, everyone would just call her what they’ve been calling her, her whole life. Privileged. Not bothering to look any deeper into her, but what they see on the surface. A perfect porcelain doll made to be looked at.

Heavy steps coming towards caitlyn snapped her out of her thoughts and snapped on her perfected smile.

“Goodmorning Clyde. I made eggs and bacon this morning.”

Clyde is a short ratty looking man, compared to caitlyn who was the pinnacle of beauty and long legs. However what he lacks in looks, he attempts to make up for by brandishing his wealth around, showing off the latest and best watch on the market or the ugliest looking clothes from Gucci.

Of course he did nothing but grunt in reply, no ‘thank you’, just dismissal.

He sat on the couch balancing the plate full of eggs on his leg while he skimmed through the latest news lazily.

As caitlyn was cleaning up, hoping he would leave so she could finally eat, he finally spoke up.

“You know it might be time for you to finally get a job and stop using me for my money. He spat out over his shoulder.

To say that Caitlyn was thoroughly confused was an understatement.

“What do you mean? You were the one to make me stop working in the first place. I also come from money so me ‘using you for your money’ makes zero sense Clyde.” Clyde simply huffed in response.

“Mhm. The same thing that my friend's wife told him, now she's got half of his estate in her greedy hands after claiming that he was ‘abusing her’.

“What?” Caitlyn said horrified.

“Well whatever. I just want you out of the house more and somewhere I can know you’re not cheating on me” Caitlyn had to take a deep breath in at that.

 Not this again.

“Clyde, I would rather not discuss this right now. I've assured you countless times that I am not cheating on you. But yes, I do want to work sometime again.” Although Caitlyn hated the reason why he had brought up her going back to work, she was trying not to get her hopes up on the possibility of maybe going back into the workforce, something she had been dreaming of for years now.

“Well you never know with you women. Gold diggers, all of you.” he replied under his breath before getting up to get ready for work.

That seemed to have satisfied him enough for the moment.

He finally left through the door with nothing more than a nod, giving Caitlyn a chance to breathe.

----------------------------------------------

While caitlyn was mindlessly doing what she did every day in and out, cleaning.

Wash the dishes, put the laundry into the machine, clean the rooms, dust everything, take the laundry out of the machine to dry, and repeat.

Everyday was the same.

However today when she was wiping down the kitchen counters for the fourth time, something just clicked.

Why does she not go and find a job? He told her to, did he not? Mel, one of her best friends, could surely find her a position somewhere.

She could finally have some freedom after four years.

Going to find her phone, she clicked on Mel’s contact and nervously held it to her ear while it rang. A couple of seconds later she heard Mel's voice ring out.

“Caitlyn? Is everything okay?”

“Yes Mel. Sorry for interrupting you if you are out or doing anything, but I was actually wondering if you knew anyone who had a position open for a job?”

From then on the call consisted of Mel screaming out of pure glee.

“You know what, I actually have a friend who has a good position open. It's just an office job, you know, you would mostly be doing taxes for them and ect. But I think it would be good. I can call her up, send her your resume and you may get an interview in a matter of days.”

“Thank you Mel, you are the sweetest.”

“Of course Caity! Us two and jayce have got to go out for drinks soon. Bye!”

Later that day caitlyn got a text telling her that she got an interview and to come in in 3 days.

----------------------------------------------

As soon as Clyde had gotten back to the house, Caitlyn brought up the interview.

“Clyde, so you know about what we were talking about this morning? How i should get a job?” grunting in response as he went to the fridge to get a beer.

“Well funny thing, but Mel's friend actually has a position open and I have an interview with her in three days. Is that okay with you?” sitting on the couch, Clyde looked up to her with a scrutinising look.

“Sure.” he simply said as he tipped his head back to take a sip of his beer.

“Sure?”

“Yeah. I mean you can go to the interview, but you know you aren't going to get it.” making caitlyn feel belittled, she just left for the bedroom without a word.

Once caitlyn made it through the almost endless stairs and to the room, she called Jayce, her best friend since she was a little girl.

“Hey sprout, how ya doin’, I heard about the interview from Mel, that's awesome!”

Chuckling slightly at that, Caitlyn replied “thanks Jayce. Im doing alright,” caitlyn hesitated, not quite sure if clyde would become pugnacious with what she was about to do. “I was actually wondering if you and Mel would like to go out for drinks after the interview?”

“Hell yeah! Sounds great, haven't seen you for a while so this’ll be amazing, can't wait!”

Caitlyn had decided not to tell Clyde she would be going out with her friends. Whenever she would he would accuse her of cheating so she thought that she best not say.

Hopefully he won't become too mad.

----------------------------------------------

The next few days in the lead-up to the interview were utter hell. Caitlyn was so unbelievably nervous.

But today was the day.

Caitlyn did not have a car, so she was forced to take the train. It was hot and squishy but all she was thinking about was how this interview was about to go.

Attempting to calm herself down as she stepped off of the train and into the summer heat outside, taking a big breath in and out, focusing her attention onto herself as she walked down the busy streets to the big skyscraper Mel had informed her to go to.

Walking into the building, she was met with the front desk who told her to head up to the 14th floor.

In the elevator, caitlyn was bouncing her leg up and down, glancing at the rising number on the elevator wall.

“Was this a mistake?” her mind asked. Deep in thought and looking to the floor she stepped out of the elevator as it dinged open.

Between fluorescent lights beaming down on her, and her business skirt slowly riding up she didn't even notice the person who she crashed into.

As papers flew everywhere she took notice of bright pink-red hair falling down to the floor.

Immediately leaning down to help the person on the floor and paper everywhere she began to apologise “Oh my goodness i am so sorry-” as it turns out the person who she clumsily bumped into, was the most beautiful woman ever.

She was dressed in black slacks and a white collared shirt, the top three buttons, unbuttoned.

Her eyes somehow shifted colours from powder blue to stormy grey. She had a small tattoo underneath her eye, spelling out ‘vi’ and a couple of scars to accompany it along with a nose piercing. Her hair was spikey and red.

She must’ve noticed caitlyn staring because she chuckled slightly before talking.

“Dont worry about it.”

Her voice was absolutely addicting.

“Hey, I don't think I've seen you around before. Watcha doin’ here?” Caitlyn felt weak in her knees. God, the amount of seductiveness this woman could hold in just a few words was insane.

“Oh- uh yeah, i’m actually here for an interview. Hey, do you know where I could find Rochelle's office?”

“Yep, all good. Here follow me.” she said as she started heading down a long hallway.

“My name is Vi by the way.”

“Caitlyn.”

“Pretty name,” vi then turned left and held open a glass door for caitlyn to go through. “Well this is it. Make sure to do well alright, I'd love to see you around again.” she grinned up at her. Caitlyn tried to respond, but nothing came out. She was so dumbfounded at how gorgeous one specimen could be.

When all she did was stammer in response, she turned to walk through the door with an awkward wave to Vi.

From behind her, a voice spoke.

“Caitlyn! Hello I am Rochelle, I see you’ve met Vi. Would you like to sit down?”

After that, the interview commenced and went wonderfully. Quite surprisingly to caitlyn it was very calm and light. Rochelle asked some basic questions ect. But caitlyn felt very good by the end.

“You know Caitlyn, this wasn't really an interview, it was more me seeing what you are like,” caitlyn was puzzled. “When Mel called me up a couple of days ago, she gave you a stellar recommendation, so much so that I had already decided that I wanted to hire you. All I wanted to do was meet you in person. I think you will be a fantastic fit and will do amazingly here if you would like to accept my offer.”

“Are you kidding?! Of course! I would love to! Oh my god you have no clue how much I want this job. Thank you tremendously Rochelle.” Caitlyn almost screamed excitedly, shaking her hand. Her and rochell laughed slightly before Rochelle stood up.

“I’m so glad! We would love to have you here. If you can, I would ask you to come in tomorrow just to sign a couple of things.”

With that caitlyn said her goodbyes and headed out of the massive building.

----------------------------------------------

Caitlyn was just about to text Mel and Jayce before she heard somebody yell out “caity!” from the door.

She was sitting at a table waiting for them both at this bar they used to go to before she married Clyde.

Mel leaped into her arms, almost knocking her over.

“Oh my god caitlyn! I’ve missed you so much!”

“As have I! It's so great to finally see you both!”

“Hey sprout!” Jayce greeted her with a massive smile.

They all finally sat down at the table before Mel couldn't contain herself any longer.

“So… the interview…?”

“It went amazingly. She actually offered me the job there.”

“Oh my god cait! That's awsome!" Jayce was beaming down at her, “Why do I feel like you aren’t very excited?"

“Oh sorry. I am extremely excited, trust me. I suppose I'm just nervous,” both mel and jayce shared a slight glance to one-another.

“Its just… I haven't worked in over four years. What if i do something wrong? I dont know, its dumb. I'm also just worried what Clyde will say, what he’ll do.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well he just doesn't like it when I'm away from the house. But I needed to get out for a bit, starting to feel trapped you know,” Caitlyn said under her breath, “Oh well, that's just what it's like being somebody's wife.” attempting to laugh at that to lighten the tone however Mel and Jayce just looked at her worriedly.

“See i was fucking right, i’ve always thought there was something weird about that dickhead.” Jayce remarked to Mel.

“Cait, that's not what a marriage is supposed to be like, are you okay?” Mel vocalised to Caitlyn, where what she was met with was a puzzled look.
