Chapter 1: princesa

Chapter Text

The sun hadn’t even fully committed to the sky yet, just kinda hovering there like it was debating whether today was worth it. Soft gold light slipped through the curtains in thin streaks, painting lazy patterns across the bedroom walls.

Sophia was still asleep.

Like, fully asleep asleep. The kind where her hair was doing its own thing, half her face buried in the pillow, blanket tangled around her legs like she lost a fight with it in the middle of the night. One arm stretched out across the bed, reaching for nothing.

Or, well—reaching for Daniela.

Except Daniela wasn’t there.

Not because she wouldn’t be.

But because Daniela had already been awake for an hour.

Because Daniela had a plan.

In the kitchen, Daniela stood there in an oversized hoodie and fuzzy socks, staring very seriously at a slice of toast like it had personally offended her.

“Okay,” she whispered to herself. “This is easy. People do this every day. I’m literally built for this.”

The toast popped up.

She flinched.

“Okay—rude. But fine.”

She grabbed it, inspecting it like a professional food critic. Slightly uneven browning. A little too crispy on one edge.

“Character,” she decided. “We call that character.”

Next: eggs.

Daniela cracked one on the edge of the pan.

Shell pieces? Yeah. Immediately.

She froze.

“…we’re not gonna talk about that.”

She carefully fished out the shell like she was defusing a bomb. The egg sizzled, spreading out into a slightly chaotic shape.

“Abstract art,” she murmured. “Very modern.”

Despite the chaos, she couldn’t stop smiling.

Because this wasn’t about making perfect breakfast.

This was about Sophia.

Back in the bedroom, Sophia shifted slightly, pulling the blanket closer, still half-asleep.

“…Dani…” she mumbled, voice soft and sleepy.

No answer.

Her brows scrunched a little.

That was weird.

Daniela was always there in the morning. Usually wrapped around her like she was legally obligated to be touching her at all times.

Sophia cracked one eye open.

Empty space.

Now both eyes opened.

“…okay, what.”

She pushed herself up slowly, hair falling into her face. The room was quiet except for distant, faint kitchen sounds.

Her brain, still waking up, tried to process.

Kitchen noises.

Daniela.

Kitchen noises… and Daniela?

Suspicious.

Very suspicious.

Sophia squinted toward the door like she might catch Daniela in the act of… whatever this was.

“…girl what are you doing…” she mumbled, half amused, half confused.

Meanwhile, Daniela was now assembling the tray like she was preparing for a royal ceremony.

Toast? Check.

Eggs? Slightly chaotic but still valid.

A small bowl of fruit she had very carefully arranged to look aesthetic? Absolutely.

And—this was important—a cup of tea.

Because Sophia loved tea in the morning. Not coffee. Tea. Daniela had learned that very early on and had treated it like sacred knowledge ever since.

She stepped back, looking at everything.

“…wait.”

Something was missing.

She snapped her fingers.

“Presentation.”

Daniela disappeared for two seconds and came back with a random flower she may or may not have taken from a plant by the window.

She placed it gently on the tray.

Now?

Now it was perfect.

“Well… like, emotionally perfect,” she corrected. “We’re not gonna zoom in too close on the eggs.”

She took a deep breath, picked up the tray, and started walking toward the bedroom like she was about to make the most important delivery of her life.

Sophia heard footsteps.

Okay.

Now she was definitely awake.

She sat up more, adjusting her hoodie (which was actually Daniela’s hoodie, but that was beside the point).

The door creaked open.

And then—

Daniela appeared.

Holding a tray.

Sophia blinked.

“…no way.”

Daniela stood there, trying so hard to look casual and not like she’d been rehearsing this moment in her head for the past hour.

“Good morning,” she said, way too smoothly.

Sophia just stared.

“…is that for me?”

Daniela gasped dramatically. “No, actually, I made it for myself. I just thought I’d walk in here and eat it in front of you.”

Sophia snorted.

“Daniela.”

Daniela grinned, stepping inside. “Okay, yes. It’s for you. Obviously. Who else deserves this level of service?”

Sophia pulled the blanket closer around her, shaking her head like she couldn’t quite believe this was real.

“You made me breakfast in bed?”

Daniela carefully set the tray down in front of her. “Only the best for my favorite person.”

Sophia looked down at the tray.

The toast. The eggs. The fruit. The tea. The flower.

Her expression softened instantly.

“…stop, this is actually so cute.”

Daniela’s heart basically did a backflip.

“I was going for cute,” she admitted. “Also slightly impressive, but like—we take what we can get.”

Sophia picked up the toast, examining it like Daniela had earlier.

“It’s a little… crispy.”

Daniela pointed immediately. “Character. I said the same thing.”

Sophia laughed, taking a bite anyway.

And then—

She lit up.

“Wait. No, this is actually good.”

Daniela blinked. “Wait, really?”

“Yeah,” Sophia said, mouth half full, completely unbothered. “Like, okay, a little chaotic, but good.”

“I will take chaotic good,” Daniela said proudly. “That’s literally my alignment.”

Sophia rolled her eyes, smiling.

She set the toast down and reached for the tea, taking a sip.

Perfect.

Exactly how she liked it.

She looked up at Daniela, softer now.

“…you remembered.”

Daniela shrugged like it was nothing, even though it was very much not nothing. “Of course I did. I pay attention.”

Sophia just stared at her for a second.

Then she set the cup down and grabbed Daniela’s hand, pulling her closer.

“Get in here,” she said.

Daniela laughed. “Sophia, I just brought you a whole tray—”

“And now you’re gonna sit with me,” Sophia said, already making room. “That’s part of the princess treatment package, I’m pretty sure.”

Daniela didn’t even argue.

She climbed onto the bed, settling next to her, careful not to knock the tray.

Sophia leaned against her immediately, like it was instinct.

Like it was home.

They stayed like that for a while.

Sophia eating slowly, Daniela watching her like this was the most entertaining thing in the world.

“You’re staring,” Sophia said eventually, not even looking up.

“I’m appreciating,” Daniela corrected.

“You’re being weird.”

“I’m being in love,” Daniela said simply.

Sophia paused mid-bite.

“…oh.”

Daniela froze. “Wait—was that too much for 9 AM? I can tone it down—”

Sophia set the fork down.

Turned to her fully.

And smiled in that soft, quiet way that always made Daniela feel like her brain had just stopped working.

“No,” Sophia said. “Don’t tone it down.”

Daniela exhaled.

“Okay, good.”

Sophia leaned her head on Daniela’s shoulder again.

“…this is nice.”

Daniela smiled, resting her head lightly against Sophia’s.

“Yeah,” she said softly. “It is.”

A few minutes later, Sophia held up a piece of fruit.

“Did you arrange these on purpose?”

Daniela immediately: “Yes.”

Sophia squinted. “They’re in a color gradient.”

Daniela tried—and failed—not to look proud. “I have an eye for design.”

“You literally googled ‘aesthetic fruit bowl,’ didn’t you?”

“…we’re not talking about my sources.”

Sophia laughed so hard she almost spilled the tea.

“You’re actually unbelievable.”

“And yet,” Daniela said, nudging her lightly, “you love me.”

Sophia didn’t even hesitate.

“Yeah. I do.”

Daniela blinked.

“…you can’t just say that so casually, I have a weak heart.”

Sophia smirked. “That sounds like a you problem.”

Daniela clutched her chest dramatically. “I do all this, I bring you breakfast, I serve, I slay, and this is how I’m treated—”

Sophia leaned over and kissed her cheek.

Soft.

Quick.

But enough to completely reset Daniela’s brain.

“…okay,” Daniela said after a second. “I forgive everything.”

“Obviously,” Sophia said, picking up her tea again.

Time slowed down after that.

The world outside could wait.

Nothing urgent. Nothing loud. Just soft morning light, tangled blankets, and the quiet comfort of being together.

Sophia finished the last of the fruit and leaned back against the pillows, looking very pleased with herself.

“That was elite,” she says. “Five stars.”

Daniela lit up. “Five stars??”

“Maybe even six,” Sophia added thoughtfully.

Daniela gasped. “Oh, we’re breaking the scale now?”

“Only for you.”

Daniela shook her head, smiling so hard it almost hurt.

“You’re actually everything.”

Sophia tilted her head. “Yeah, I know.”

Daniela laughed, pulling the tray aside carefully so it wouldn’t tip.

“Okay, your highness, anything else you require?” she asked, leaning back dramatically. “A morning playlist? A dramatic reading of your texts? I’m here to serve.”

Sophia pretended to think about it.

“Hm. Actually…”

Daniela raised an eyebrow. “Yeah?”

Sophia shifted closer, wrapping the blanket around both of them.

“Stay.”

Daniela blinked.

“That’s it?”

“That’s it,” Sophia said. “Just… stay here with me for a bit.”

Daniela didn’t even need to think about it.

“Done.”

She pulled Sophia closer, wrapping an arm around her.

Sophia melted into her instantly.

And just like that—

No rush.

No pressure.

Just warmth.

Just quiet.

Just them.

Outside, the sun finally decided to fully show up, flooding the room with soft golden light.

Inside, Daniela pressed a gentle kiss to Sophia’s hair.

“Best morning ever?” she asked.

Sophia didn’t even open her eyes.

“Easily,” she mumbled.

Daniela smiled.

Yeah.

Worth it.
