Chapter 1: Sticky floors and stupid mistakes

Chapter Text

The day had started like any other, Angela stopping by Yesod's office and dropping off an amount of paperwork that surely the weight would never be allowed on an airplane. He was always the one to get stuck with all the paperwork, not like the other sephirot would get any of it done, especially not that idiotic drunkard.

Yesod's skin itched at the thought of him. That stupid green hair, his stupid smile, his stupid... ugh, just everything. it all infuriated him.

"Call upon the devil and he shall receive" is all Yesod could think as he heard those extremely recognizable, sloppy footsteps slowly approaching his office door. A lazy knock could be heard from the wood of the door, swinging open before Yesod could even object.

Netzach drunkenly stumbled into the office, shutting the door lazily─not fully closing it─and leaning against the wall before collapsing onto the raggedy couch in the corner of Yesod's office.

heyyyy.. Yesod.. "

Netzach slurred out, holding a can of beer in his hand as he leaned heavily against the couch armrest, staring at Yesod while he desperately tried to keep his focus on the papers; grip on the pen getting dangerously tight. Each word was a rough, aggressive scratch of ink into the paper, threatening to rip through the paper and mark the wood of his perfect desk.

" What do you want? I'm trying to do the work that you refuse to do. You're lucky I'm not immediately reporting your drunk-ass to Angela. "

He tried to hide the irritation in his voice but no amount of trying─and failing─could hide the disgust and venom in his tone as he snarled silently under his breath at Netzach.

" What? can I not visit my fav viper in the facility? "

Netzach poked back at him with his response, that stupid smile he had when he was intoxicated on his face. Yesod shot a glare at him, eyebrows furrowed together and muscles tensed up so hard his arm practically shook under the pressure. Netzach frowned slightly as he noticed how tense Yesod was, tenser than usual.

" You seem... tense. "

Netzach muttered quietly, unsure of whether he was talking to himself or the other man. He hummed before standing up and making his way towards the desk, clumsily tripping over his own feet before leaning against the front of Yesod's desk and leaning in closer to him. He lifted up the beer can before shaking it a bit in Yesod's face with a quiet hum, silently asking for him to relax and drink a bit with him. Yesod scoffed and pushed his hand─along with the beer can─out of his face.

" I'm not willing to get tipsy with a drunkard like you, Netzach. "

" always so professional... ouch... "

Netzach said that "ouch" dramatically, making a hiss as if he had been burned by Yesod's harsh words to him. He backed away from the desk before collapsing back onto Yesod's couch with a slightly annoyed huff, frustrated by the fact Yesod always refused to let himself relax; no matter the amount of stress put on him. It was like he was a stone statue that refused to crumble under the crushing pressure of a boulder.

Netzach stretched his body out on the old, worn-out couch, half-empty beer can tumbling out of his hand and onto the floor with a metallic clank. Yesod's head snapped up and his eye twitched as heard the clank, knowing this would be another mess he'd have to clean up. He mumbled angrily to himself as he stood up and grabbed some paper towels, getting on his knees to wipe up the spill and toss the now empty can away.

He was just about to scold Netzach as he stood up and turned around, but went silent as he realized Netzach had fallen asleep on the couch, again. He felt annoyed but yet a small part of him found it almost reassuring to know Netzach was getting rest and in a lapse of judgment he had done something without thinking and carried Netzach into his offices sleeping quarters, laying him into the bed and pulling his green tie off─not like it was difficult considering it was always half undone anyways─and tugging the sheets up over Netzach.

Yesod stared down at him momentarily before realizing he had carried him into his bed and in a slight fit of panic fled to the bathroom to immediately get a shower and wash away the warmth and touch of the other man.
