Moonlight on the River

Summary:

When the moon rises, it is said to be the start of night. However, the moon itself isn't as dark as the night, nor is it as bright as day. It is a middle ground with a mysterious glow that seems to reflect on everything it comes into contact with. What will happen when this moon reflects on a new river? A river where the water runs smoothly and gracefully while rocks create temporary obstacles and challenges for the water, sometimes resulting in the water getting splashed out of the river. There’s only one way to possibly find out.

In other words: Port Mafia members Osamu Dazai and Chuuya Nakahara are assigned on a mission to the hero/villain society of Musutafu. Where different members of the comic book society learn more of the not so comic book reality in Yokohama. Where Chuuya and Dazai face many hardships and ultimately grow closer during this indefinite excursion.

Notes:

HI!! THANK YOU FOR CLICKING ON THIS FIC! I honestly have no idea where I’m going to go with this; like I have some ideas, but nothing planned for the end or whatever. Again, I don't have an update schedule and any suggestions are GREATLY APPRECIATED!! I really want to try and finish this because I honestly felt so much joy writing Dazai and Chuuya’s scene. So hopefully I come up with some sort of plan. Also, I finally figured out how to italicize words—go me!

ANYWAYS ENOUGH OF MY RAMBLING, ENJOY!

Chapter 1: Meetings and Applications.

Chapter Text

Aizawa’s signature ringtone played as his phone pinged, and he sluggishly sat himself up in his bed.

He turned to his alarm clock that he hadn't bothered to set an alarm for, and saw that it was 6:13am. Sure, that was a regular time for teachers to wake up for work. Though it wasn't for Aizawa, and definitely not a week before the UA entrance exams actually began.

His hand made their way to his eyes in an attempt to clear some of the crust that had gathered there during his sleep. Once he was done with that, he turned his attention back to his phone that had pinged a second time either due to him not looking at the notification, or due to a new message being sent through.

Shouta reached out for the phone resting on his bedside table and unlocked it with ease; he barely had to see his phone to remember where the buttons key to unlocking his phone were.

Once the phone had been unlocked, he opened the messages app where the notification guided him to go. Before he saw who had texted him, a thought crossed his mind.

“Who would be texting me at this hour? What people do I even know that would wake up this early while on break?”

In his mind he could name a few if he wished, but he didn't want to at the moment. His mind wasn't that clear yet seeing as he had just woken up and was definitely not a morning person.

When the man had located the contact that had texted him, everything became clear.

“Of course, Nezu would be the one to wake me up early and a week before work.”

Even though he wasn't very pleased at the moment, he reluctantly read the message.

And he was glad he did.

The school was already taking in applications for the entrance exam, and it seemed that two out of the thousands of applications sent had been deemed “suspicious” by principal Nezu.

“Why had these two sheets of paper made Nezu decide to text me at 6 in the morning?”

Aizawa wasn't sure, as the message wasn't very detailed.

All the message provided was “After looking through majority of UA’s applications for this upcoming school year, I’ve found two that seem to stand out from the rest. Please meet me at my office at 7:30am. No earlier, and no later.”

Maybe Shouta had lied about the message not being detailed, it was quite lengthy for a text, but even though it was long and formal that didn't automatically mean that it provided a lot of clear information.

Although he dreaded doing what the message instructed, he still replied with a simple “I’m on my way.”

With some struggle, Aizawa managed to get up and ready enough to seem presentable to the principal of UA. He was sure this entire encounter would give him a headache, as do most interactions with the animal result in, but it would also put a halt to his curiosity.

Sure, he was in a rush to get there, but making himself a quick coffee to enable him to actually function during their meeting wouldn't take that long.

Soon after he brewed his coffee, he made his way to his car with said cup of coffee in his hand. He had poured it into one of his travel mugs in order to prevent it from spilling. As he started, and drove off in, his car towards the hero school he wondered.

“Just who were these two? And how had they spiked Nezu’s curiosity so much that he had resorted to calling me?”

***

A certain brunette and ginger were making their way to the boss's office. It wasn't often that Mori called the duo for a meeting with just him, but whenever he did, it was concerning an important topic. After all, these two teens did make up the most feared duo in Yokohama. They had many names: Twin Darkness, Double Black, Soukoku, all of which just made them more feared and their reputation more clear.

Even though they were a very dangerous duo, that didn't stop them from bickering at any chance available. This included the time it took them to get to the boss's office.

“You should really start incorporating milk into your diet Chuuya. Perhaps if you added it to your daily breakfast, you wouldn't be the size of a slug.”

Dazai had said calmly, not even bothering to look at the redhead who was only slightly shorter than he was.

“Lay off about my size mackerel. Not only do you look like a fish, but you smell like one too—and for your information, I drink milk regularly.”

Chuuya responded, his frustration slowly growing with every step they took towards the meeting place.

“Oh, you can't be talking, don't go forgetting that you're my dog. And as a dog does, it smells. All the time.”

Dazai responded. He ignored Chuuya’s last comment but finally looked over at his partner and smirked at the ginger’s increasing rage.

“Can you just let the silence be for one goddamn second you annoying fucker?”

Chuuya had shifted his gaze, so he was glancing slightly upwards at the brunette as they walked. His face twisted in frustration the more Dazai's smirk grew, and Dazai's smirk grew as Chuuya’s anger increased.

“I’m afraid not! You should be used to noise Chuu chuu, as your barks fill the silence more than my words ever could.”

Dazai’s smirk stayed strong even at Chuuya’s lack of a response. Chuuya had decided on replying only with a heavy sigh and a hope that his silence would also get this annoying kid beside him to shut the hell up and stop being so annoying.

Luckily the ginger’s plan had worked—in a way.

Dazai was finally silent. But not entirely due to Chuuya’s lack of a response. He was silent because both pairs of footsteps had come to a halt, and the view of large double doors stood in their way.

Chuuya looked up at the doors. He was slightly nervous, seeing as he had only been to the boss's office a few times despite being halfway through his second year in the port mafia.

Dazai on the other hand was calm. Or at least he seemed to be. Even though they had been partners since Chuuya joined the organization, he always found it hard to read the bandaged bastard. Especially when whatever he was trying to read on Dazai had something to do with Mori.

He was unfamiliar with their bond before he had joined, but even now whenever he witnessed the two speak, something in the air turned eerie.

Though there wasn't any time to dwell on his thoughts now. Because before he knew it, the brunette had already knocked on the door. Three times to be exact.

The number three was significant in the mafia, and Yokohama in general. Why did it need to be the number three? Chuuya hadn't known. But it was the mafia's signature move to shoot people three times when its members were ordered to kill. And there were three organizations currently working to protect Yokohama. There were probably other examples, but Chuuya hadn't cared to learn about them. If he wasn't told he needed to know about them, it was most likely insignificant.

A voice from inside the office pulled Chuuya out of his internal thoughts yet again. He needed to focus now; not analyze everything he saw—that was Dazai’s job for god's sake.

“Come in”

The authoritative yet mysterious voice on the other side of the doors responded to the knocking.

The response led Dazai to push open the doors and for Chuuya to follow behind.

As Chuuya entered the room, he saw Mori with his back turned to them. Instead, he was facing the wall behind him which was covered with floor to ceiling tall windows. They revealed the almost ethereal sunrise and its reflection on the numerous bodies of water surrounding the port city.

Though Mori didn't have his back turned to the duo for long. The moment he and Dazai made their way to the front of his desk he swivelled in his chair to face them. It almost seemed like one of those predictable appearances villains made in practically every superhero movie to exist. In a way Mori could have been seen as a fictional villain, but he was the leader of a mafia. He wouldn't be placed to such a bland role. He was far too complex to be a regular villain, not like Yokohama had them anyways.

“Good morning, Nakahara-san and Dazai-kun.”

Mori said, eyeing the two teens down.

“Greetings, boss.”

Nakahara said his words with a bow, while Dazai didn't try to bow and barely made an effort to even utter the words expected of everyone when meeting the boss.

Though it seemed Mori hadn't minded Dazai’s reluctance. And that could be either good, or bad.

“I assume that you two are curious of the reason why I requested Soukoku to meet with me this morning?”

Neither Dazai nor Nakahara answered. It was clear that the boss was planning on continuing to speak anyways.

“Quiet this morning; I see how it is.”

The boss commented, even though he hadn't really minded the two of them remaining silent.

“You two are going on quite an important mission, as I assumed you have already deduced. Though, this mission will take place outside of Yokohama.”

Travelling outside of Yokohama for missions wasn't unusual in the mafia, but it was slightly unusual for Soukoku to be the ones doing it. Usually, the duo was kept in Yokohama to protect it and to fight off anyone or anything that put the city in danger. So why were they now being sent abroad?

“Your task is to play as regular civilians in the city of Musutafu. Both of you will be attending the prestigious and very top hero high school, UA.”

Mori’s words left the duo in complete shock. Them? Double Black? Heroes? No way. Even Dazai had shifted his expression. Sure, he was very intelligent and analytical, but he couldn't always prepare himself for Mori’s unpredictable behaviour.

“Musutafu? Really? You expect us to play heroes with a bunch of children? Come on Mori. Give us something that is at least a bit of a challenge.”

Dazai spoke to Mori, dragging out the “I” in his name, with a childish look of annoyance plastered onto his face. Whenever someone spoke to Mori informally, or doubted him, they were always punished—except for Dazai. Chuuya had always wondered why this was, but never actually pried. He didn't want to get involved in the relationship his partner and the boss had.

“Now now Dazai-kun, don't be too quick to question my intentions. You know better than to do that. I assure you, and Nakahara-san, that I am sending you off for a multitude of important reasons.”

Musutafu was the city containing the most “heroes” and “villains” in all of Japan. The outbreak of Heroes had been a large factor as to why Yokohama was nearly completely severed from Japan.

“Why would Mori want us, his best subordinates, to play hero in Musutafu?”

It all made zero sense. Until his next words explained their goal.

“You two will play the roles of innocent hero students, as I assume you've already figured out, while completing numerous tasks that I have outlined in the files I will be providing you with.”

Mori gestured to the edge of his desk where two individual folders sat. Both were coloured in a deep red, it was one of the mafia’s signature colours, and each at a name attached to the front of each folder via a paper clip. One having the name “Chuuya Nakahara” and the other having the name “Osamu Dazai”. Other than the names, they were entirely blank on the front; probably to keep the mission secret. Then, the boss continued to speak.

“Though, some assignments will probably be assigned to you both during your stay in Musutafu. Some tasks are more important than others; those tasks I will be stating in this meeting to make sure you both understand that they are your main priority, rather than just letting you two read over them in the folders.”

Dazai had remained silent in response. Nakahara knew that the boss was never really straight forward with them unless the mission held extreme importance. Apparently, this had been one of those missions.

Then, Mori began to list off the “more important tasks” as he stated he would.

1. “Through several different sources, I have figured out that heroes residing in Musutafu are becoming increasingly insistent to see what lies in our city. Make sure they don’t make any advancements on their plans to infiltrate Yokohama.”

2. “I’ve also found out, through the sources mentioned previously, that there could be a potential threat to the port mafia beginning to develop in the hero run city. Assure that the threat does not increase and, that if they pose a large enough threat to our organization, to eliminate them.”

Mori said these three tasks with a straight face, not at all sharing the same shocked state of mind as the two teens

Dazai and Chuuya weren't shocked in the surprised sense. Specifically, Chuuya still didn't see the reason why the needed to be sent out for this mission; it sounded like a few of the lower ranked members could have handled it just fine.

He would have attempted to ask Mori more about their goals for the mission, but Mori had already gone into much more detail than usual. Due to the boss already revealing so much information so clearly, he most likely wouldn't appreciate being asked too many questions that had their answers written out in the folders on his desk anyways.

“Anything to add Nakahara-san? Dazai-kun?”

Was Mori saying this just to taunt him? Chuuya wanted to add something. He wanted to add in a comment about how unnecessary and stupid this whole mission was for the two of them.

Before Nakahara was able to form any words from his frustration, Dazai spoke up with a question. It was quite odd for Dazai to be forming a question to ask the boss, but Chuuya wasn't mad about it.

“How long is our mission to Musutafu meant to last? And, in addition, when will we be required to leave?”

Dazai asked with a now serious face.

“I’m glad you asked Dazai-kun!”

The boss said, with an eerie and fake excited tone.

“The mission length is indefinite. I would prefer if everything was done with in under a year, so you two could return to your duties here, but all will decide on the things the city throws at us and how well you two advance the job.”

A whole year? That was insanity! Chuuya had left Yokohama before, but only for brief amounts of time, a week at most, but an entire year outside of Yokohama was something he'd never expect himself to need to do.

Sure, the city of Yokohama hadn't been the nicest to him, but it was still the only city he would, ever call home. Only being able to live in Yokohama again when he was 17 seemed unreal, not to mention that the length of the mission being a year wasn't even set in stone.

Nakahara had thought for a moment that Dazai would be shocked about the length of the mission similar to himself, but he instantly discarded the idea. That bastard barely cared for anything; leaving Yokohama for a year was probably just like a sleepover at someone's house for him.

Mori seemed to see how Chuuya disliked that idea. For a moment when the boss opened his mouth, he thought it would spill assuring words, but when had the boss ever been kind? It was foolish to expect such a thing from him.

“During the mission, you will be prohibited from entering back into Yokohama until it is finished. No one can suspect you or find anything out to think of you two as suspicious. To ensure this, you will stay in Musutafu for the entirety of the mission.”

That sucked, yes, but it wasn't like the ginger could question, or just upright reject the boss's conditions. Only someone suicidal would do that.

“No entry back into Yokohama whatsoever? Mori-san is so cruel…”

Dazai's idiotic words just proved Chuuya’s point. Even if they weren't serious, his words were still questioning Mori. If anyone else had opposed the boss's word, surely they would have been dead by now. But Dazai was still standing, as he always managed to do despite saying he didn’t want to.

“Yes yes, very cruel.”

Mori hadn’t seemed annoyed, but he wasn't pleased with Dazai’s words either. Nakahara couldn't describe the look on his superior’s face. Then the look was gone as soon as it came, and more words fell out of Mori’s mouth.

“Now for the other question you had; you and Nakahara-san are expected to leave by tomorrow afternoon at the latest. Your applications for the hero school have already been sent in, and the entrance exam is set to start in a week's time. You two are arriving a week earlier in order to prepare yourselves and find an apartment or some other place to reside.”

Tomorrow afternoon at the latest? Sure, they still had today and some of tomorrow, but that did not seem like much prep time for this mission Mori deemed important. Not to mention that they aren't allowed to come back if they forget anything valuable. The two of them would make it work, but the boss hadn't given them much time at all. Not to mention that he didn't even bother finding them a place to stay. Not only will h to they need to pack and look over the mission’s files, but they would need to find a place to live while attending UA.

Mori did sure like to see them struggle.

“With that, is there anything else either of you would like to ask?”

A beat of silence passed after Mori spoke, and seeing as Dazai wasn't planning on speaking, Chuuya spoke for the both of them.

“No boss, we have nothing to add. Thank you for this meeting.”

Nakahara closed the interaction by thanking the boss for the meeting, even though Mori was the one who ordered them to his office at 6:30 in the morning. Before the two teens could walk off, the leader of the mafia spoke one last time.

“Well, with that, you two are dismissed. You can take the folders I have provided you with from my desk.”

Mori paused for effect as Dazai and Nakahara took hold of the red folders.

“And please, don't let me down. You know what will happen if you do.”

The boss was right. The two teens knew exactly what was waiting for them if they fucked up the bosses orders: death. Sure, there was a possibility they could be spared under extremely specific circumstances, but death would be the primary punishment for them. Even if they were high ranked members in the mafia, and a duo feared by all who knew their name, they weren't irreplaceable. Their abilities, tactics, and minds were powerful but if the two didn't hold up their weight, Mori had no problem with eliminating them. He was the ruthless boss of the port mafia after all.

Chuuya gave a small bow to Mori as he started to exit the room. Dazai didn't, but the boy had moved his head down for an instant to show some form of “respect”. If you could even call what Dazai felt towards the boss as respect.

Chuuya moved faster Dazai, exiting the room before the brunette could. Dazai was heading towards the two large doors to enter the hallway when he heard the words he was intentionally trying to miss.

“Oh, and Dazai-kun. Please actually read your folder thoroughly for once. You may find that there is more… interesting information residing in your files than in Nakahara-san’s.”

Mori’s words were as frightful as ever, but the boss's numerous attempts at intimidating Dazai stopped working quite a while ago. In response to the last words uttered in this meeting, Dazai let out a quiet scoff and allowed his eyes to roll; even though Mori wasn't able to see the disrespectful act.

When Dazai exited the office, Chuuya was already making his way down the hallway, probably back to his apartment. The bandaged teen didn't make an effort to catch up to him or start their bantering up again. Actually analyzing what was written in this folder he was currently holding would tire him out enough.

The Black Wrath made his way down the same hallway Chuuya had walked down after a while and came across the elevators. The redhead was no longer there, so he was probably already on the main floor exiting the building.

Dazai pressed the down button on the elevator. He planned to go back to the place he currently resided in, the word home didn't fit a shipping container and look over his folder. He hoped nothing outrageous was inside; he really didn't want this mission to become a hassle.

Oh! Maybe once he's done looking at his folder, he can break into Chuuya’s place to annoy the slug one last time before their both banished into the dreadful world of heroes and villains.

***

Aizawa had arrived at the hero school at exactly 7:20am. He was honestly surprised that he had made it in time—early at that. It was difficult for him to make it here without falling asleep again, but he was a hero. Waking up in the morning was nothing compared to some of the things he has had to do in his line of work.

He was currently walking up to the entrance of the school with his travel mug filled with coffee in his hand. It was awfully quiet and calm compared what he was used to—children yelling, screaming, laughing, complaining, running—and it allowed him to actually take in the scenery surrounding the school.

Obviously, the school wasn't a castle built for royalty, but when there were no students crowding every inch of the building, the school seemed larger and more beautiful in a way. You could actually see the grass and plants around the campus and could actually take in the scale of the building.

It wasn't like the school wasn't huge all the time, it was, but it was easier to take in its large scale without high schoolers everywhere.

Speaking of high schoolers, Shouta still had so many questions about what the principal brought him in for. How could two applications get Nezu to call him? There had been numerous times where prank applications were sent in, and there had sometimes been meetings between the two to discuss said applications. However, Nezu never called him at 6:00am for two applicants that seemed “suspicious.”

What had the mouse-dog-bear-whatever creature even meant by suspicious? Did he mean that the two students that had applied seemed like a danger? Did they seem in danger? Were they villains of some sorts? What could the principal possibly have called him in for?

He hoped he would get answers, though it was highly unlikely the man-animal would tell him.

Nezu was a good principal, but he was extremely smart. Too smart. He could find a way to change the direction of conversations with a few simple words; he could manipulate practically everyone around him. This was a useful trait, but it sometimes made talking with him extremely annoying if you were aware of the tricks he used. Sometimes, Shouta could already tell what he was and wasn't going to tell him just by how the current conversation was going.

Aizawa hoped Nezu would answer all his suspicions surrounding this entire ordeal, but that was most likely not the case. It was only very rarely when Nezu shared all his knowledge to someone.

But hey, look on the bright side! Shouta was at least going to get the answers he could extremely soon, seeing as he was currently outside Nezu’s office on a heavily cushioned couch.

The journey to his current position felt like he was on autopilot due to many thoughts flooding his mind. He didn't take notice of the interior of the school as much as he did the exterior due to said thoughts.

Shouta had already knocked but decided to sit down and set down his coffee after looking at the clock on the wall and seeing that he still had three minutes left until 7:30.

Nezu was nice; he was the principal of a hero school and was expected to hold up his reputation, but he was always very insistent on things being exactly on time. Now this wasn't necessarily a bad trait, it was just somewhat annoying. He would always be stuck waiting however long for Nezu outside his office and would only be let in at said set time. It was clear that Nezu was just waiting in his office doing nothing majority of the time, so it confused Aizawa why the principal wouldn't at least just let him inside his office.

He knows better than to question Nezu’s word though.

Through working with the intelligent principal, Aizawa has learned that Nezu is correct most, if not all, of the time. He has always had a reason for what he did as well, and majority of his questionable decisions were for the betterment of the school he was in charge of running. Aizawa wasn't sure if anyone else would be able to run UA as good as Nezu; after all, running the top hero school in all of Japan doesn't just require power. It requires knowledge and the ability to problem solve and make decisions while keeping the main priority the wellness of the students, teachers, and school itself.

Though he really wished Nezu wouldn't make him work so hard. Why did he have to be teaching the first years again. They were always the hardest to control and it always kept him exhausted; he would much rather be teaching a class that has already had experience at this school, the second years or students who are graduating or just any children but the most irresponsible ones.

Aizawa’s thoughts cut off once he heard a handle being grabbed and tilted to allow one of two large doors to open with a slight creak.

From the newly opened door came out a small white rat-bear-mouse creature in a formal suit: the principal. Aizawa looked at Nezu, and then to the clock accompanying him in the waiting area that was hanging over top of the seating area across from him.

It read 7:30. Three minutes really passed quite quickly.

Aizawa turned his head back to the principal with his heavy eye bags and got up with his coffee to follow the white furred creature into the office.

Nezu had backed up into the door to prop it open for Aizawa to walk through and walk through it Aizawa did. Not without a thank you though.

Once Aizawa entered the office, Nezu left his spot by the door, letting the large board of wood on hinges silently shut silently behind them. Even though Nezu was small, he could be fast when he wanted to; so, as the sleepy Aizawa was walking towards the couch facing the principal's unnecessarily large desk, Nezu sped past him and got to sitting down first. This way, the principal was able to invite Aizawa to sit down.

“Please, sit down Aizawa-san. Sorry to keep you waiting!”

Nezu said as he hurriedly got seated at his own desk. Why was he rushed? Aizawa had no clue.

“It's alright; I was only waiting for a few minutes.”

Shouta said as Nezu said and took a seat on the couch facing him. Aizawa took a sip of his coffee and set his cup down after he spoke.

“Oh good! Now, I’ve requested you here to speak about two student applications that we have received.”

Nezu took hold of a pile of papers he had on the left side of his desk and began to shuffle through them as he continued to speak.

“We have received more applications than ever this year, but these two stand out from the rest; I haven't decided whether they're different in a good or bad way yet. That is why I’ve brought you here; to see if I'm looking into this possible problem too much or not enough.”

Aizawa’s head nodded in acceptance, even though his thoughts were doing the complete opposite.

“To keep Nezu in check? That’s the big reason why I was called in here so early in the morning? Why me? It couldn't have been anyone else? Nezu has never asked anyone to make sure he is doing the right thing or not—unless…”

Unless he still isn't.

Aizawa wasn't extraordinarily smart, but he wasn't an imbecile. Nezu has probably already determined whether the impact on the school these two children could have is negative or positive. He only brought Shouta here to see if he thought the same. He was called here to be observed on his opinion on the matter; but why?

Why would Nezu need to, or want to see the way Aizawa thinks of situations? To see if he's still fit to teach? No, that doesn't fit...

Oh, but this does.

Aizawa was piecing it all together in his mind as Nezu continued to sort through files on his desk, most likely trying to find the two students files that were the main topic of discussion.

What if Nezu had brought Aizawa here, not just to observe his opinion on the two students, but to see if Aizawa would be smart enough to be able to handle the two suspicious students? It fits perfectly.

But it's also a stretch. God, why was Nezu so hard to see through?

Whatever it was, he didn't need to waste his small amount of coffee powered thinking skills he currently possessed to try and figure it out.

Nezu finally separated two files from the rest of the pile, sliding them across his desk for Aizawa to take and observe as he spoke

“Nakahara Chuuya and Dazai Osamu. Both 16, both with unusually lengthy quirk names, and both with odd origins.”

As soon as Shouta took hold of the two folders, he was in shock. The two “suspicious” UA applicants were from Yokohama? The sealed off city, rumoured to be run by a villain mafia group? The very city the heroes were attempting to infiltrate and rescue numerous citizens from? Not only were these two students suspicious, but they could also be incredibly dangerous, or in incredible danger. Though Aizawa was leaning towards his first thought. These two could very much be villains trying to ambush the hero school he taught in.

“You're seriously debating on whether or not to let in two kids from Yokohama? How did they even get out of that filthy city? How do you know they won't try to harm us, to harm our school, to harm our students?”

Aizawa mouth moved to form words before he could even come up with a decently civilized response. However, the principal hadn't seemed to mind his blurt of words even a bit.

“Calm down Aizawa; I assure you that I have thought about this numerous times. I received Nakahara-san's and Dazai-san's files very close to the time applications first opened. I’ve had lots of time to think about it, and would simply like your opinion on the matter now. Seeing as if they pass the entrance exam, I plan to place them in your class.”

Nezu said all this with a calm face.

How was he so calm? Aizawa was the exact opposite. The principal was just letting two immature kids from a sealed away crime ridden city enter UA’s entrance exam with no precautions? That seems like a completely idiotic move. Not to mention the last words that had come out of the white furry animal’s mouth

“Seeing as if they pass the entrance exam, I plan to place them in your class.”

Really, what had Shouta done to deserve such cruelty? He didn't want to look after these reckless two.

Ah, but it still wasn't guaranteed that they would be attending UA, seeing as the entrance exams were still a week away. Aizawa then formed a thought.

“I guess I’ll just have to hope for the best.”

The “best” in this case was that the two kids from Yokohama wouldn't succeed in the entrance exam.

“My class? Why do you want me to be their teacher, if they pass?”

Aizawa said with a pause before continuing.

“And my take on the matter is that you shouldn't let these two be allowed to apply to UA or take the entrance exams. No one outside of Yokohama knows what goes on inside of there; there are so many risks that would be involved if we let them enter UA premises just like any other person.”

Even though Aizawa didn't think his words would change Nezu’s opinion on the matter in any way, he still shared his thoughts. The principal was the one who requested to hear his opinion on this whole ordeal.

“For your question, Aizawa, I am placing them in your class so that if they attempt to use their quirks to harm anyone or destroy anything, you would be there to erase it; that is if they manage to pass the entrance exam. Due to their long quirk names that I briefly mentioned earlier, I’m unable to clearly deduce what their quirks are.”

Nezu points to a section on Chuuya Nakahara's file first where it had information about the applicant's quirk

“Here it says his quirk is “Upon the Tainted Sorrow.” It is awfully poetic and intriguing in many ways, but it is not very specific as to what his quirk is actually capable of.”

Nezu shifts his gaze to the other application, and points to the same spot he did on Nakahara's sheet but on Osamu Dazai's sheet instead.

“Dazai-san's quirk title is just as poetic and vague, but a bit more worrying at the same time.”

The space the principal pointed to was filled with the words “No Longer Human,” which was Dazai's somewhat concerning quirk name Nezu was referring to.

“This is another reason why I would like you to be their main teacher. Because we do not know what they are capable of, we don't know the dangers their quirks are capable of. We will probably be able to experience it in the entrance exam, but I would still like to place them in your class if they pass so you can watch over them and restrain them if needed.”

Nezu pushed the sheets to the side as he continued to speak.

“Anyways, let's get back on track. As I said before, I assure you that I have had a large amount of time to think about this decision. I personally do not think they intend to harm to school, or us, in any way. We don't know much about their origins in Yokohama, but that doesn't necessarily make them villains. As long as we prepare for the risks that may be involved, everything will be alright. It could even be seen as a learning opportunity in a few ways.”

He spoke calmly as one does when trying to calm someone down. His tone wasn't what calmed Aizawa though; what calmed him was focusing on Nezu’s words and thinking about this situation deeper.

“As long as we prepare for the risks that may be involved, everything will be alright.”

Those were the words Shouta was currently focusing on. Because really, what risks could there be that they wouldn't be able to prepare for? Additionally, the two kids were kids. Even if they were from Yokohama, 16-year-olds couldn't be so dangerous. Especially not if they're applying to a hero school.

Yeah. These two students didn't pose a threat; they were just two children hoping for a better life out of Yokohama. Finally, he had come to the right conclusion.

Hopefully the right conclusion—for everyone's sake.

Definitely the right conclusion.

There was a brief pause before Aizawa responded. Clearly thinking pretty deeply about this topic.

“Alright. I suppose we can let them attempt to pass the entrance exam.”

Aizawa said this, forgetting that he wasn't the one with the higher power here. Nezu most likely decided beforehand whether he would let them try out for UA. So he practically dragged Aizawa’s ass here for no reason.

He still tried to speak with a certain nonchalance though. Sure, his view of the two students was the complete opposite of what he thought a minute ago, but something was still weird. Even though he was sure he was thinking right, something felt wrong. There wasn't anything specifically off with the two other than their origin; weird quirk names were just uncommon, not never seen before. Still, Shouta just felt a sort of eeriness and discomfort devouring his thoughts.

He reached for his coffee again to drown out this chain of thoughts. There was no use to dwell on it. The principal had already decided on his choice before this moment, and there was really nothing Aizawa could do to stop him if he wished.

“Excellent! I’m glad we share the same opinion, Aizawa.”

Nezu spoke with a bit of cheeriness.

“Now, I’m sure you're tired. Feel free to leave now if you wish; we’ve discussed everything that I felt the need to.”

Aizawa let out a small sigh of relief as he set back down his coffee mug. Nezu wasn't horror movie scary, he was just scary in an unsettling way; in a way where you felt like he was always a step ahead. Shouta was relieved that he wouldn't have to speak to Nezu more about the two applicants, and he was relieved that this meeting had come to an end so he can go back home and crash in his sleeping bag for the rest of the day.

Although Aizawa was excited to leave, he didn't forget his manners. He stood up and off of the couch, took hold of his coffee, and gave a slight bow as he spoke.

“Alright; Thanks for calling a meeting and notifying me about this before the entrance exams start.”

Although he would've preferred if the principal called this meeting later in the day, he was relieved that he was actually notified about two students he would need to keep his eyes on while teaching class 1-A this year.

Aizawa rose up from the small bow he gave Nezu, and the small creature responded yet again.

“Oh no problem at all! I’m quite glad we were able to meet as well. Have a good day Aizawa-san.”

“You as well Nezu.”

With that, Aizawa turned to the office doors and made his way towards the exit as he took drank the last drop of his coffee.

Now that the Eraser hero thought about it, he should probably stock up on his coffee and get used to making it at the school more. Because from his new found knowledge this is going to be one hell of a year.

Notes:

AND THAT’S THE FIRST CHAPTER! I honestly am surprised on how I managed to make it kinda long—hopefully the other chapters are like this or longer. Anyways kudos, comments, feedback, suggestions, or even grammar corrections are greatly appreciated! I always get a bit of joy when I see that someone has left Kudos on my stuff or any comments!

I hope you have a great morning/afternoon/evening/night (if you're reading this at 1:00am or something this is your reminder that you should go to sleep) and hopefully you don't have to wait that long for the next chapter! I do have lots of schoolwork, but summer is almost here so hopefully I’ll get to write more!!
