Would you love me if...

Summary:

A cute, short little story where Hyunjin seeks Felix out for cuddles before going to sleep, and they end up discussing a few different things before eventually falling asleep together.

Work Text:

Felix’s door creaked open, and he didn’t have to look up to recognise the soft footsteps padding across his floor.

“What are you doing?” Hyunjin whispered, tugging back the covers of his bed and crawling inside.

Felix turned his phone so he could see the screen.

Hyunjin’s eyes widened, and then he cooed. “Oh, that’s cute. Don’t show Minho Hyung or he’ll want to adopt him.”

Felix chuckled. “I think Minho has enough cats.”

“I don’t know, that one is so fluffy and cute I don’t think he’ll be able to resist.” Hyunjin shifted closer to Felix, tugging his arm out until he could rest his head in the dip of his shoulder and curl up against his side. “Maybe we should get a cat.”

Felix rolled his eyes. “Jinnie, neither of us knows how to look after a cat. And we have too many schedules, anyway. It’ll just end up with Minho’s parents like all the others.”

“Well, still. Maybe when we’re old and retired we can adopt him.”

“I think he’ll be old an retired by that point.” Felix smiled and scrolled away from the video. “Who let you in here, anyway?”

“Seungmin was making midnight eggs in the kitchen, so he left the door open for me.” Hyunjin pressed his face into Felix’s neck and yawned. “Why aren't we sleeping yet?”

“You can sleep.” Felix rubbed gentle circles into Hyunjin’s back.

“But I want to sleep with you.” Hyunjin grumbled.

“I’m literally right here.” Felix scrolled again. And again. And again.

Hyunjin groaned and peeled his face away from Felix’s neck. “Yeah, but I feel like you’re more interested in your—holy shit that’s a hot edit of you. Scroll back up. Scroll back up!

Felix sighed, but scrolled up.

Woah.” Hyunjin’s mouth dropped open, and he hummed happily as it played. “Can we keep this one on loop?”

“No.” Felix scrolled again.

Hyunjin pulled a face, then hid again. “Boring.”

Felix nudged Hyunjin again a few minutes later. “Here, look at this.”

Hyunjin squinted at his screen, then giggled. “Channie Hyung!”

“Shirtless Channie compilation.” Felix smiled and kept scrolling.

A few minutes passed, and Felix’s brain started to go numb as he scrolled and scrolled and scrolled.

Hyunjin was still lying curled against his side, and Felix couldn’t tell whether he was watching the videos, too, or whether he’d fallen asleep.

“Would you love me if I was a worm?”

Felix blinked, a tiny corner of his brain kicking back into gear as his attention was dragged from the endless videos and onto Hyunjin. “Hmm?”

“Would you love me if I was a worm?” Hyunjin asked, looking up at Felix with big, round, shiny eyes.

Felix clicked off his phone and set it on his bedside table. “Hmm…I don’t know,” he teased. “Are you a cute worm?”

“Of course I’m a cute worm.” Hyunjin huffed, poking Felix’s chest. “Why wouldn’t I be a cute worm?” He gasped dramatically, eyes flaring wide. “Do you think I’d be an ugly worm?”

Felix’s lips twitched. “I’m sure you’d be a gorgeous worm. And I’d risk my life stealing some of Minho’s cat clothes to dress you up.”

Hyunjin snorted. “Those would be way too big for a worm, but I appreciate the sentiment.”

Felix rolled onto his side and tugged Hyunjin further into his chest. “As long as I don’t have to kiss you as a worm, it’s all good. I’ll even feed you little wormy food.”

Hyunjin frowned. “What do worms eat?”

“Compost, I think.” Felix answered. “Or they eat old vegetable peels and make the compost. Or something.”

“Oh. Well. At least it’s not bugs.” Hyunjin tapped his fingers on Felix’s chest, the hoodie he was wearing far too thick for the warm weather. “What about if I was a pancake? Would you eat me?"

Felix’s brow furrowed. “I feel like that’s a trick question.”

Hyunjin stared up at him innocently. “I don’t think it is.”

Felix looked at him suspiciously. “I think it is. Because either I eat you, and then that’s, you know, not great because I ate you, but if I don’t eat you then you’ll go mouldy and I’ll have to throw you in the bin."

“I still don’t think it’s a trick,” Hyunjin said, tugging at the drawstrings of Felix’s hoodie. “You eat me all the time, and I don’t mind that, so…just imagine how sweet I would taste.”

Felix groaned, squeezing his eyes tightly shut.

Hyunjin chuckled. “Oh, my God, you’re imagining me as a pancake right now, aren’t you?”

“It has your eyes.” Felix said solemnly and Hyunjin laughed so hard he choked on his own throat.

Felix patted Hyunjin on the back. “If you were to die right now, what would you want to be re-incarnated as?”

“Ooh, that’s a fun question.” Hyunjin pursed his lips in thought. “I want to say Minho’s fourth cat, but I don’t think I would enjoy being a cat. Especially not Minho’s cat. Then I’d be stuck in his parent’s house whilst you’re all the way over here.”

“Cute.” Felix smiled.

Hyunjin hummed and nestled even closer. “I feel like I should say a ferret. But what does a ferret even do? Just…exist? I don’t want to just exist, I want to exist with you.”

“You should come back as a houseplant, then. Although I’ll undoubtedly kill you. I’ll have to get Seungmin to take care of you.” Felix carefully ran his fingers through Hyunjin’s hair, playing with the ends. “Or maybe a snake. I reckon I could look after a snake. They eat, like, never.”

“Really?” Hyunjin asked, surprised. “I didn’t know that. I guess I could be a snake. Then I could curl around your neck and sleep there, close to your heart. And you could still do whatever you wanted because you wouldn’t need to hold me up.”

Felix nodded, satisfied. “Sounds good.”

Hyunjin smiled, his eyelids drooping slightly as he yawned. “Would you love me if I was a snake, Felix?”

Felix didn’t hesitate, he just pressed a kiss to Hyunjin’s cheek and hugged him even tighter. “Of course I would, Hyunjin. I’d love you so much.”

There was a quiet tap at the door, and Seungmin’s voice filtered through the wood. “Hi, um, sorry to, like, bother you guys. I was just wondering whether I needed to put my headphones on to be able to sleep peacefully or if, you know, you guys were going to…sleep.”

Hyunjin snorted and buried his face in Felix’s hoodie.

Felix smiled. “It’s okay, Minnie. We’re just going to sleep. You don’t need your headphones.”

“Oh, thank God,” came the relieved sigh from the other side of the door, quickly followed by a sharp cough. “I—I mean, obviously, you guys can do whatever and it’s—it’s totally fine! Totally, 100% fine. So, um, yeah. I’ll just—I’ll just go sleep, then.”

Seungmin headed to his room, and Hyunjin giggled into Felix’s chest. “He’s so adorable.”

Felix mumbled a quiet agreement and lightly kissed Hyunjin’s lips. “You look exhausted.”

“Yeah, well, I came here to sleep, and you wouldn’t put your damn phone down,” Hyunjin grumbled playfully.

“Sorry.” Felix reached over to turn the light off. “We can sleep now. I’m tired, anyway.”

“Yay.” Hyunjin yawned again and relaxed, letting Felix wrap around him like a koala bear. “Night night Lixie. I love you.”

“I love you, too.” Felix kissed Hyunjin’s forehead, and then they fell asleep, wrapped up in each other’s arms.
