Summary
And all of that was why, on their seventeenth day on Mars, Buck had shoved Eddie out of the way during the emergency evacuation, knowing it meant his own death instead of Eddie’s. Buck trusted Eddie to help get everyone else home, and Eddie had someone to go home for. Someone who needed him and loved him. Someone who Buck loved, even without ever meeting. He wasn’t going to let Chris grow up without a father. So in the split second he had to think after seeing the communications dish flying at them through the storm that was chasing them off the planet fourteen days early, he’d pushed Eddie out of the way, hoping like hell it would be enough and knowing he wouldn’t live long enough to find out.
--
Or, when their mission to Mars goes wrong, Buck gets stranded and the rest of the crew does everything they can to save him. | Fic is complete at ~120k words and posting 2-3x a week as I edit.

Summary
Shane has always felt bad that there's a whole decade of his relationship with Ilya that they have no proof of. No saved photos of the day they met, the times they met up, their stolen days at the cottage. So he decides to do something about it, something that takes a whole year of sneaking around and effort before he's ready to show Ilya.

Summary
Shane has always known he didn't navigate the world like other people, but he'd always told himself it didn't matter. He got by, so it was fine. But the night after his parents came to the cottage for dinner with him and Ilya, Ilya took Shane apart in a way that shifts everything. He can't stop thinking about it, especially the petname Ilya started using that night.
--
Or: Shane Hollander is undiagnosed autistic, and he and Ilya are figuring out how to navigate that even without knowing what it is.

Summary
After the fight in the grocery store, Buck feels like he's causing too much damage so he drops the lawsuit and leaves LA, joining a hotshot wildland firefighter crew out of Montana. He's gone for six months until he gets a call from Chris that something is wrong with Eddie, causing him to race back home only to find a very confused Eddie instead of a hurt or depressed Eddie. Eddie talks him into coming inside for a beer and after that Buck can't bring himself to leave the Diaz boys behind again. But that doesn't mean he's ready to talk to anyone else yet. So they just don't tell anyone else Buck is back. For over two years. Even when they start dating.
Three years after he left LA and the 118, there's a pileup on the 210 in La Tuna Canyon Park and a wildfire racing towards all the crews scrambling desperately to get everyone out in time, including the 118. Buck's crew is in the right place at the right time, and they don't hesitate to come help.

Summary
Three weeks after Eddie leaves for Texas, Buck gets a call in the middle of the night from a trauma center in El Paso. Eddie was in a serious car accident and has been rushed into surgery for a skull fracture. Buck rushes to Texas, finding that things are even messier than he imagined, and that's before Eddie wakes up and confesses that he's not sure it was actually an accident. That he might have done it on purpose. So Buck does what his parents never did for him: he steps in, all the way, and helps put his little family back together.

Summary
Buck comes over to teach Eddie how to play chess before he moves to El Paso so Eddie and Chris can have something new to connect over when he gets there, but their conversation quickly becomes about a lot more than just chess.

Summary
If there is one thing Buck will always do, it is help people. Doesn't matter what sort of danger it puts him in, or who the person is, he will jump in feet first and get the job done. When he's alone in a parking lot late one evening, of course he's going to run towards the woman yelling that her father is having a heart attack. Why wouldn't he?
When he doesn't show up for his shift the next morning, Eddie and the rest of the 118 immediately know something is very, very wrong. But this time, there's not much they can do about it. There's no ladders to climb, no debris to move. Buck just isn't where he's supposed to be.

Summary
It should've been a simple call. But when the "small fire in an apartment kitchen" turns into a collapse that traps Eddie as the fire continues to burn, Buck is forced to make an impossible choice to save the man he loves.

Summary
Eddie's moving and Buck's feeling a little out of control about it, the sort of out of control that makes him a little too honest, thoughts coming out of his mouth before he can think better about it. But, maybe, for the first time, that won't come back to bite him in the ass.
--
Or: the 118 gets a call to a kink club, and it opens some interesting floodgates between Buck and Eddie. To keep from spiraling while Eddie finally goes to get Chris afterwards, Buck breaks Jee out of daycare for a day of fun, and it really is amazing how much toddlers can notice and point out without a second thought.

Summary
Tommy broke up with him, Eddie's leaving, Chris is already gone, and Buck is feeling that old, dangerous urge to just leave. To get in his Jeep and not come back so he doesn't have to deal with any of it. But he doesn't want to be that person again, so he goes to Bobby, desperate to fix it in another way. Any way.
When Buck doesn't show up for a shift, Eddie's left reeling, forced to confront the fact that he may have irreparably hurt his best friend by being just another person in the long line of people that left Buck behind.
--
Or:
Buck doesn't know how to cope with everything going on in his life, so he takes a temporary assignment on a wildfire in Montana to clear his head. In a lot of ways, it works, until he slams right into some realizations about his past. -

Summary
After a few years of living together in New York Alex and Henry's lives are going great, but Queen Mary is an ever looming shadow. When she summons Henry back to England for apology tour for a comment he makes on a podcast, Henry and Alex realize something needs to change. Before they can make that change, though, Henry's plane home from the apology tour crashes in the Canadian wilderness, killing all on board.
Or so Alex is lead to believe. Trapped in his grief, he flees back home to Texas to try and start over. And over. And over. He finally settles in a small town at a small lawfirm, but it isn't until he joins the local volunteer fire department that his life starts to finally turn back around.
Only Henry isn't dead. In an attempt to both smother his "corrupting influence" but still protect the line of succession until Philip has kids, Mary has had him squirreled away deep in the Australian outback.
And, well, it's amazing how often the outback burns, isn't it? Sometimes, it burns so bad, they need help from international firefighters...
