Summary
Katara had been so sure of her plan to liberate the prison rig. How was she to know how efficiently the guards would respond to an uprising? Zuko had been positive that his best course of action was to travel separate from his Uncle. What else was he supposed to do when he came across a person from his past? Sometimes, through all the doubt, two people collide. Eventual Zutara.
This is both a Canon Related and Canon Divergent, reimagined ATLA story. Katara joins Zuko in his journey of self-discovery across the Earth Kingdom as personalities clash and beliefs are questioned. Familiar allies and enemies await them along the way.
Ripple effects of having Katara absent from the majority of 'Book 1: Water,' are seen once Katara and Zuko meet up with the Gaang later on in the story. 'Book 1: Water' occurs mainly in the flashbacks of this story as Chapter 1 picks up close to the start of 'Book 2: Earth.'
The most recent chapters explore the aftermath of the conclusion of the Hundred Year War.

Summary
The Great War has raged for one hundred years. The Southern Water Tribe has long been coerced into a non-aggression treaty with the Fire Nation, which involves sending Water Tribe women to be held in the Imperial Harem of the Fire Nation palace.
When Katara befriends Zuko during the early days of his quest to find the Avatar, she has no way of knowing that their relationship will set off a chain of events that will change the course of the war.
___“Why do they take us?” Katara murmurs, mostly to herself.
“It’s collateral,” Zuko replies in a detached tone, almost like he is reading from a book. “They keep Water Tribe women as hostages, so they don’t have to engage in a land war.”
