“Odasaku! Don’t go!”
But he keeps walking. Farther and farther out of Dazai’s reach. Arm falling back to his side, he watches in a muted kind of horror as his friend walks away, without glancing back. He’s being left behind; he realizes and the thoughts makes his throat tighten. Left behind by his only friend. If Oda leaves now, if he goes, Dazai would have nothing left.
He cannot let that happen.
“If you leave now, I’ll…” He fumbles with his words, trying to think of something that would make Oda stay and reconsider. His panic speaks for him, words rushing out faster than he can think them through. “…I’ll kill myself!”
Oda stops walking.

Atsushi’s lips trembled. Dazai was clearly enjoying himself with his silly jokes, but, to the tiger, every word that came from the Boss’s mouth felt like it carried a hidden question. A test he always failed to pass. He didn't know what to say. Having a pet wasn't forbidden, but even the small possibility that Kuro-chan might be taken from him squeezed his heart into a raisin. Atsushi didn't want to imagine his life without the cat. A small, black, cat-shaped speck of light in his life. Atsushi would do anything for him.
Even lie to the most important man in his life.
Atsushi bonds with a mysterious black cat that always visits him when he's at his lowest. He doesn't know that he's not the only one seeking solace in their shared life, not the only one breaking down under the pressure of life in the Port Mafia.

Hey look! It’s you! All fishy looking and dead eyed.
Fish are interesting creatures. To think that someone can keep them in their home and admire them whenever they want. Small and insignificant in a glass box, just to be trophies, he thinks. Chuuya’s compared him to fish many times before. Does this mean Chuuya likes to watch him? Care for him in his little box of a home? Maybe he is a fish after all. Too late to ask now, though.
Dazai learns to take care of himself in his years hiding by keeping a fish tank. Turns out that having something to nurture can help your mental health. Who knew?
