Unfortunately for Zanka, he made one horrible mistake.
He let himself get cornered.
His breathing came unevenly now as he stood near one of the lower maintenance halls, surrounded from almost every direction by a crowd of civilians armed with stolen pipes, knives, and scraps of metal. Some looked terrified. Others looked desperate. A few looked genuinely furious.
Zanka held his assistaff pointed toward them with trembling hands, careful to keep the charge lowered despite the danger closing in around him. The last thing he wanted was accidentally seriously injuring someone.
“Throw down those weapons..!”
There was a noticeable shake in his voice despite how hard he tried sounding authoritative.
“And I'll ensure you'll be spared!”

It was mind-boggling “didn't you hear the forecast on TV?! You'll probably end up dead on the side of the road, succumbing to the toxins of this pouring crap!”
She kept talking, though he would have said it was more like she was screaming, continuing to squeeze his hand, not letting him take a single step back, though he didn't even try, too shocked not to act like a pillar of steel.

“You’re…” Gris’ words trail off, and he glances at him before shaking his head.
“I’m what?” Enjin mutters, letting his fingers dance down Gris’ spine. The supporter shivers, leaning into his touch before he locks eyes with him again, tightening the hold on his waist. His other hand comes up to trace the tattoos that adorned Enjin's skin, the man's hand warm against his neck.
“You’re mine.” Enjin doesn’t know if it was the way Gris’ voice dropped, or maybe the grip he has on him, or even the mark on his neck still damp with spit, but chills break out across his skin as his words. Not the kind that came from just the right touch or dirty words. It was the kind that was followed up by a hole opening up in his stomach, or the way your stomach lurches while falling.
He feels sick, like he’s going to vomit if he doesn’t get off this bed, or get away from Gris.

You can bury memories, but all it takes is the right words to dig them up again.

Sure, it's not fair, but his dead serial arsonist murderer of a father has managed to ruin his life from beyond the grave. It's even less fair that the one good thing he had, Regto, was burned away in the apartment fire. The last straw was how easily the fire starter was able to walk away from the scene.
Sure, they aren't blaming him. He's not in cuffs, but everyone thinks he did it. His only chance happens to be some random foster parent from several towns over. That's fine. He'll leave this place behind, but don't think for a second he's let it go. He may not know their face, but he'll find them. Then he'll do exactly what they've done to him: set it all on fire.
Modern AU! Rudo is left in the foster system after Regto dies in an apartment fire. Now he's gotta tucker on while being the only person who believes the fire wasn't an accident (or is he?).
