She eyes the illuminated green exit sign down the hall, but then adjusts her dress and meets his gaze. He has freckles, she notices, and his dark, brown eyes penetrate a deep stare into her own. Large, calloused fingers grip his glass and swirl the liquor inside. He makes her uneasy, but she takes a sip from her flute anyway, attempting to look indifferent. In her peripheral she can see the two goons who brought her upstairs blocking the booth, and now there’s a third walking towards the exit door. Shit.

There’s a different pull for Clarke, one that makes her blush when she puts her finger on what it is. Despite all her cynicism while reading articles about being a sugar baby, one common argument tugs at something buried deep inside her.
