Dazai se figea brusquement. Lentement, il déposa la tête de Chuuya sur sa cuisse, pour observer la main qui avait soutenue la tête de son ancien partenaire.
Elle était couverte de sang.
Tout à coup, il se retrouva quatre ans en arrière. Lorsqu’il avait soutenu Odasaku, son ami, de la même façon, et que sa main avait été également ainsi couverte de sang. C’était quelques instants avant qu’il ne meure sous ses yeux.
Il se rappelait encore parfaitement la tristesse, la peur, le désespoir qui l’avaient envahi à ce moment-là. Il n’avait rien pu faire, il avait été totalement impuissant alors qu’il avait regardé son ami mourir.
La même scène se reproduisait sous ses yeux.

As William suffers from his decision to avoid Sherlock, he meets a rather peculiar painter who strangely reminds him of the detective. Believing that the painter poses no threat to his plan, the young criminal allows himself to spend time with him in order to ease, even slightly, the longing that has been gnawing at his heart since his last encounter with Sherlock.
On the other hand, Sherlock is far from pleased about this growing closeness... -

"Parler de Sherlock devenait décidément trop difficile, tant ce sujet lui serrait le coeur. De toute façon, la fin de son plan approchait à grands pas. Avec un peu de chance, il ne croiserait plus personnellement le détective et ne risquerait donc pas que leurs liens ne se renforcent encore un peu plus. Pour son bien comme pour celui de Sherlock, il fera tout pour que cela n’arrive pas. Cela lui faisait mal, mais c’était une décision nécessaire pour le bien du plan pour lequel il était prêt à sacrifier sa vie. "

Alors que William souffre de sa décision d’éviter Sherlock, il rencontre un peintre quelque peu particulier qui lui rappelle étrangement le détective. Ne représentant pas un danger pour leur plan, le jeune criminel se permet de passer du temps avec lui afin d’apaiser même légèrement le manque qui lui ronge le cœur depuis sa dernière rencontre avec Sherlock.
De son côté, Sherlock voit d’un très mauvais œil ce rapprochement...

William smiled.
Locum tenens.
A latin phrase, meaning “to hold the place of, to substitute for.” Referring to one who temporarily takes the place of another. Most often used in reference to doctors or clergymen.
But not always.
Mirth shone in William’s eyes.

My own take on a story inspired by a Tumblr post by @user-needs-new-hyperfixation, specifically: “Mycroft/William set in between A Scandal in the British Empire and The Final Problem, in which they have a lot of technically very good but very miserable sex while pining over each other's brothers and picking apart each other's brains brutally.”In which Mycroft and William act as temporary stand-ins for their brothers, influenced heavily by my headcanon that Mycroft was able to deduce William’s real Moriarty Plan.
