Now, looking into those same eyes, he saw so much more. The way light shone in his eyes, there was hope in those eyes. They weren’t empty pools of darkness, they weren’t black holes threatening to suck you in.

When someone attacks Oak Laboratory, Gary is left trapped in the collapsed building with a young trainer. His only hope for survival is waiting for someone to rescue him—except he was supposed to be on his way to a conference in Sinnoh, not indulging an Ash mega-fan with her first pokemon, so there's a good chance no one will even realize he’s missing until it’s too late. Add in the fact that whoever attacked the lab is going on a deliberate spree of targeting other research facilities, and his odds look even bleaker. But, if there’s one thing Gary’s good at, it’s surviving.

Kukui laughs. “Something tells me Ash has his hands full with you, Gary Oak.”
“You have no idea.” Ash sighs.
“Excuse me, it’s the other way around!” Gary says, shooing them toward the door. “I don’t jump off buildings like a psychopath.”
“Ugh, that was one time, Gary,” Ash complains. “Are you ever going to let it go?”
“No, because you jumped off a building.”
OR the one where Lei's older brothers are super embarrassing (and kind of ridiculous), but he loves them anyway.
