She dips her head, then reaches across the counter to tug the nipple into the cap. Shane grabs the bottle and sets it in the microwave. "Did you ever feel like it goes away tomorrow? Like you worked so hard, and fell so deep, then the lamp looks weird, and it'll all vanish?"
Shane's back is facing Jackie, so he can't see her expression. But she laughs once, and brushes their shoulders as they both watch the microwave spin. "Hayden and I weren't like you guys. My version of working hard and falling deep is completely different. Like Ilya said, different doesn't mean bad, just unique. You guys have spent so much time…and time is something you really can't waste, you know? Even if you both wake up tomorrow, and this is all a dream. I mean, the dream would be enough to take me back to sleep."
Or, Shane and Ilya introduce the Pikes to their own baby, Irina.

Summary
Ilya was not sick. His head was fine, maybe just a little uncontrollable sometimes. So, when Galina called him a half-hour after his appointment, recommending he contact a psychiatrist, he was perplexed. He only wanted to talk, have someone disconnected from him to understand him and his language. He would not let Shane bear his dead weight, so he would reach out to the psychiatrist's office. If not for Ilya, for his husband.
Ilya stands in their kitchen, while Shane shifts nervously on his feet. Ilya knows he would never say it out loud, but Shane’s trepidation is palpable, like the pill in his palm is real.
“What did she say to do?”
Ilya snorts. “Is just medicine, Shane. I think I can figure it out.”Or, Ilya's antidepressants cause trouble in, and outside, of the bedroom.

Eyes of innocence meet eyes of ignorance, and melt the skin right off their bones. She may not be their blood, might not have the anatomy she required sometimes, but no connection felt stronger.
Shane had never been very religious, and God probably hated him for the person he loved, but this blessing was enough to explain Ilya’s crucifix. This was enough to align the planets, control the stars, bring Heaven to Earth, to a secluded street in Ottawa.
