Summary
Two years before the the war starts, your only worries are playing cards with your cousins, buying new cloth to make new dresses and embroidery. Spending your summers in the Zen'in mansion while gossiping with Maki and Mai is all your life is about. Until you attend a family party and your presence alone peaks a suitor interest: the oldest son of the Kamo family, Choso. And you, in all your naivety, ends up rejecting him.
Two years later, the south announces a revolutionary war against the empire. All men goes to war and suddenly you're stuck in your cousin's mansion, all women gathered until the war is over. New warriors present themselves, letters are sent daily, Maki can't stand being at the house, Megumi doesn't want to part from his best friend, you feel like everyone is going crazy. And also suddenly, your former suitor doesn't look so bad after all.
With everything changing and all rules being broken, you start to wonder if you should enter in your own adventure.

You were so happy to have your own house, even if it was just being rented. When you had asked Choso, he said, “Yeah, I’d love to but don’t wanna leave Yuji at home. There’s something going on over there, so if you don’t mind could he come with me too?” You had narrowed your eyes, you’d hardly talked to Yuji, let alone share a house with him, but with Choso practically giving you puppy eyes, it was hard to say no.
So, here you are now! Sharing a house with your best friend, who you totally don't have small, blossoming feelings for, and his younger brother, who you consider your brother too.
Or: after years of saving for a house, you finally get one and ask Choso to come with too. He agrees but wants Yuji to come along too, you don't mind and allow him to bring Yuji.

Choso began working on a local cinema to stay (at least) as much as he could away from his habits, he just wanted a new job; he never thought it would make his life worse, nor turn his addiction into a flesh individual. That happened, you had a way of possessing him, poisoning his mind, and corroding his heart.

You were very much out of your comfort zone. Impulsively reserving a spot for a month-long backpacking trek was not something that fit into the normalcy of your typical 9-5 lifestyle, but why did it feel so right? Nothing else seemed to scream, "quarter life crisis" quite like this. Excited was an understatement, you would never have been able to anticipate the friendships you were about to be thrown into. Neither could your trip guide. Neither of you could even fathom the journey ahead, but is was sure to change both of you in ways you never knew possible.
