Mike's hands were cold and shaking, his feet dangling on the edge, too close for comfort. Yet he liked it. Destroying himself felt like being able to finally breath, like jumping off a cliff to save your friend.
His fingers trembled around a cigarette, the smoke curling around his face. Next to him lay a half empty bottle of vodka, a pill from Eddie stuffed in the back of his pants.
There was no need to be sad. His brother hadn't died, nor had his father. He wasn't Max or El, yet he wanted to hurt like them. Maybe then he would be real.
So if Max starved and smoked and wore longsleeves then he would too, if only to not feel so alone.
And that was okay, he decided.
