To recap:
Dan struggled with insecurities regarding Lucifer once Chloe came into the picture. Then he realized life was better once they were all together. Trixie was told the truth, and took it better than anyone expected. The Goddess revealed to Zach that Dan had left her a gift in the form of a daughter. After Zach and Maze returned to Hell, this news made its way to Lucifer, and he went on a rampage in his penthouse and muted his connection with Dan. They worked it out. Then Chloe shook things up by suggesting that the daughter was actually theirs. A difficult pill to swallow, but one that they grew to accept with open minds and open hearts. But not all could be bliss. The Goddess brought up the proverbial elephant in the room: Dan and Chloe's brief lifespans weighed against Lucifer's immortality, and his consistent avoidance with facing anything difficult. And then Chloe slipped into a coma!

After the massacre at the Mayan, Lucifer disappeared. A month has passed since then but despite having been convinced that things would finally go back to normal, nothing feels right to Dan. He doesn't want to believe that the club owner has really skipped town. And while struggling with his own inner demons, he comes to the conclusion that he needs to find Lucifer and get some closure. What starts as a desperate and angered attempt at getting even rapidly turns into something Dan never saw coming.

“Quiet night tonight,” Zhao said, reaching out and playing idly with his glass, “Not that I mind. It's nice to not have other smaller problems giving us a headache on top of the migraine we already have going.”
“I feel that,” Kasuga took a drink, “But its only a matter of time before some sort of fresh hell breaks loose, so its simple moments like this we have to savor.”
With a small smile, Zhao shifted his head slightly to look up at him through the side of his glasses. He looked incredibly soft like that. For a moment it felt like Kasuga forgot how to breathe. There was another reason he was happy it was just two of them tonight. While Kasuga was the type to just say whatever entered his mind, he felt he couldn't say anything quite yet. He turned away focusing on his glass. Still, should he say a little something at least? Kasuga cleared his throat...
(No endgame spoilers. Takes place between Chapters 12 and 13.)

Summary
2005 — After three years of busting his ass to graduate from university early, Mabuchi returns to Yokohama. Thanks to a bit of bad luck, he has to crash with Zhao for his first few days. Even though they’ve been friends since they were kids, and more than that since they were teenagers, Mabuchi’s return to Ijincho means renegotiating where they fit into each other’s lives. Nothing in this town has ever belonged to Mabuchi, and he’s finally ready to start claiming things as his own—starting with Zhao.
Choosing the Liumang over a desk—the money and the status and the power—meant only one person was ever going to be this close to him. The serpents on Zhao’s shoulder blades strained towards each other, so close and never quite together. That’s how it was going to be.
One rather long Mabuchi character study filling in the circumstances of his childhood, some of his school years with Zhao, and the first precursor days to a fifteen year partnership in the Liumang.

Summary
Isezaki Ijincho - 2004: Years before they reach the top of the Liumang, Zhao and Mabuchi are either best friends or rivals, or both. They each want things from one other that can’t be given. With tempers high and egos on fire, they finally get into a fight that doesn’t have a winner.
Zhao slid into his best smirk, the one that got him anything he wanted, and used his eyes to give Mabuchi a long, slow once-over.
The only way to handle Akira was to grab him by his fucking ego.
“You don’t have it in you.”
Or, the four times Zhao and Mabuchi hooked up and the four ways they managed to screw it up.
