Summary
Tragic circumstances force Calvin, a middle aged man, to return to the town he grew up in. It is something he’s avoided for over a decade and for good reason. It’s a place where time stands still, where things, and people never really change.
Diligently avoiding anyone whom he might have known from the back in the day, Calvin is nonetheless haunted by their specters, and the weight of memories rooted in once familiar locations.
Unable to spend another moment in his parent’s empty house, Calvin takes a midnight drive that ends in a lonely, cold walk to the closest gas station. Emotionally brittle, and mentally exhausted, he stumbles onto Eris’ hunting grounds where his past crashes violently with his present.

She's shocked and embarrassed that she'd be so absentminded but she's not going to let her thrall know that. In fact, she's a little irritated that they're not more excited to see her. Have they moved on with their life? Unacceptable. Instead of apologizing, she demands that things return to “normal,” starting with the thrall's attitude.

On the final night before a major reset, the elite MMO guild Avid Rankers completes a flawless, deathless raid clear. That rule begins to collapse during the post-raid celebration in the guild’s floating castle hall. Within a day, the Earth had gained dozens of sentient races, called colloquially 'Anthros'. These beings stood taller than man, held strength greater than theirs, their senses heightened far beyond what man could ever boast. They came with nothing, except for their knowledge. Yet, it was not a smooth transition. Even as they promised that together; their two species would learn and prosper together, War unfolded. As a plague wracked humanity, these Anthro's fought for their very existence. Not from threats that humanity posed, but from extinction. No male anthro's had come with them. This plague that coursed through all humanity would leave all the women dead, and even a fraction of the men fell victim and died. War raged across the globe, Mankind was bridled, pushed into servitude. Yet, in the old Rockies and Appalachian Mountains of the U.S, some remnants fight.
