Summary
Everything falls into place as if it was always meant to. Will leaves for New York with Jonathan. Max and Lucas are accepted into the same university. Dustin gets his wish and heads off to Texas. Maybe that’s how it was supposed to begin, so life could keep moving forward.
So why the hell does nothing feel right?
Nothing is the same anymore. It never will be. Because in the end, El is gone.

Will is not doing well.
He drops out of university and returns to Hawkins. It’s been five years since he presented as a beta, and yet he still catches it, that unmistakable hint of mint, the scent of a certain curly-haired alpha.

“It’s not like I hated kissing her. I do love her, just not in that way anymore. I think maybe I would like kissing more—if it was with the right person,” Mike says, careful to keep his wandering eyes off of Will’s lips. He’s already being too obvious and should dial it back but when will he get another opportunity to pry information like this out of his best friend? If he gets cut in the process of untangling Will’s romantic endeavors then it’s no one’s fault but his own.
“Really? Anyone in mind?” Will asks, curiosity aflame in his hazel irises. His short breaths puff against Mike’s cheekbone, sparking a sheet of goosebumps across the length of his arms.
“Maybe,” says Mike. “But aren’t we playing a game right now?”
After a party, Mike and Will play two truths and a lie.

Summary
Will takes in a deep breath but it does nothing to calm him. He feels like every nerve is firing at once, his body buzzing with nervous energy. “You-you know I love you,” He begins awkwardly, worrying his lower lip.
Mike sighs. “I love you too Will, you’re like the brother I never had,” Will tamps down on the urge to laugh bitterly at the second part of the sentence, at the main difference between their love for each other. There’s nothing brotherly about what Will feels for Mike.
“Now quit stalling and tell me what’s bothering you.” Mike huffs out a small laugh, bumping his shoulder with Will’s. “I can take it, I promise.” He says lightly.
Will turns to face him then, looking him dead in the eye. “No, I love you.”
