Summary
Following her kidnapping by Donnie Pfaster, Scully is still struggling in the aftermath of it all. She can't eat, can't sleep, and hiding it from Mulder is only growing more difficult as the days pass. Finally, she breaks, and the only comfort she can get is from him. Scully, navigating the turbulence of healing, journeys through the realisation that to be supported by Mulder, she must forsake her fears of being seen as someone to be saved—to allow herself to be vulnerable where it is safe to be. In this, Scully asks herself: How can she emerge from this darkness, how will this change the dynamic between her and her partner, and what will become of them?

Summary
Fox Mulder finds himself working in a bookstore and saving up to study at Oxford and leave his dark memories behind. He doesn't want to need anyone, ever.
"Head down, earn the money, get out. That’s all I wanted. Why the hell was I wondering what her name was?"*
Dana Scully is rebelling from her parent’s set path of medicine by moving away to Connecticut to study forensic science.
"In reality, what annoyed me most was the fact that I was even thinking about him at all. He should be a faceless, nameless bookstore employee. A man that I met once, in such unimportant circumstances that he faded into my memory, his face only to be deployed as a background character in my dreams, the way that the brain recycles old faces you won’t need again.
And I definitely do not need his face, ever again."*
They both keep an intimate secret, one that quickly comes to light as they feel themselves falling for each other. Though they try to fight it, hormones and curiosity get the better of them, and they end up finding a lot more than they ever could have imagined.

She made a noise like he’d slapped her. Had he really just repeated their first fight? Yes. Of course. Because Fox Mulder was a sap and a fuckup and he’d left her all alone out there, and now- “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to yell like that. I’m just…”
“I didn’t think you’d care.” Her voice was the size of a lethal injection needle. It threaded neatly under his skin and into his veins and sent breathless death straight into his heart.
“What?” he rasped.
“You’d moved on. Or, away. You’d moved away. You have another life at Oxford, now, Mulder. Other goals. Other priorities. I should handle these things on my own. I need to handle these things on my own.”

Summary
Two years have passed since Dana Scully walked out of the home she shared with Mulder.
Six months have passed since Stella Gibson's investigation in Belfast concluded.Scully, a Fulbright Scholar, has arrived in London for a year to investigate what makes for productive relationships between forensics / medical branches within police departments; trying to capture and understand more clearly the energy and verve she once shared with Mulder. Her investigation into what makes for a good working partnership in the criminal field puts her in the hands of Stella Gibson; freshly returned to field work and investigating a string of femicide throughout London.
Together they begin piecing together a complex series of murders...and maybe a whole lot more.
