Summary
The door swung open before I knocked. Usually that meant Buck had been watching for us through the peephole like a giant golden retriever with no dignity.
This time it wasn’t Buck.
It was some kid.
He's definitely not my age because he is younger, all skinny elbows and wary eyes. Brown hair falling into his face, oversized hoodie sleeves covering half his hands. He stared at me like I was the one trespassing.
“Oh,” I said.
“Oh,” he said back.

Summary
“You look like you’re barely holding it together.”
Something in Buck cracks.
Before he can stop himself, Buck pushes off the bed, crossing the room in two quick strides. Eddie tenses, surprised, but doesn’t step back.
Buck doesn’t stop until he reaches his backpack slumped against the chair.
“Fine,” Buck says, voice tight. “You want to know what’s wrong?”
He yanks the zipper open, digging inside with jerky movements until his fingers close around the bottles.
There are three of them.
He doesn’t think. Doesn’t hesitate.
He just turns and throws them.
They hit Eddie in the chest—not hard enough to hurt, but enough to make him stumble back a step. The bottles clatter to the floor, rolling slightly before settling between them.
Silence.

Summary
“You’re alive,” Buck choked out.
Eddie’s hands immediately cupped his face.
“Buck—”
“I thought you died,” Buck sobbed, shaking his head weakly.
Eddie froze.
Buck grabbed weakly at his shirt.
“I thought you died and I didn’t get to—”
His voice broke completely.
Eddie pulled him closer instinctively.

Summary
What begins as a lighthearted road trip home quickly turns into a nightmare when Buck and Eddie are caught in a brutal car crash. Eddie wakes up in the hospital only to discover Buck is missing.
“Buck?”
The nurse frowned.
“Sir, you need to—”
“Where is he?” Eddie demanded.
The doctor spoke carefully.
“We only received one patient from the accident scene.”
The words didn’t make sense.
Eddie shook his head immediately.
